REBUILDING A CHEAP BMW M5 COMPETITION | PT 5

I'm rebuilding the cheapest BMW M5 Competition F90 i could find on the internet. But the M5 was cheap for a reason. A previous accident left some pretty heavy structural damage and left alot of expensive parts broken. Whilst im restoring the car im also taking the opportunity to upgrade some of the older parts. But will all of this be worth it or would i have been better of buying a straight BMW M5?

It's the Footwell Module that's usually causes light weirdness. If there has been a short on a specific lighting circuit then the module will only try X number of times before deciding to permanently cut power (to prevent fire). The Footwell module 'short counter' can be reset using tools found online. BMW will shake their head at this and try to sell you a brand new module+ charge you for coding. EDIT: See @BimmerExperts answer below

The headlight modules need encoding to the car ECU. It stamps them with the VIN, ECU data and also brings them both up to the same I-step level (firmware version). You'll need someone with ISTA.

I love Mat’s videos because : 1. They are so well made with 15-20 minutes watch time 2. Straight to the point and really educational (Like I wasn’t a car guy but now I know something or 2) 3. He arranges the videos so well individual playlists. 4. He doesn’t drag the videos to make many episodes of a build. He doesn’t add unnecessary shots that divert from the car build. 5. He tells a story so well and confidently - it shows the audience he def will get it done no matter how difficult it may be . Keeps me on the lookout to see the next video and see him conquer once again. Lets not forget how happy he always is . - I wish other KZreadrs did it more or less like this . But I also am happy Mat is the one doing it in his own style because his content is now more premium and distinguishable from anyone else’s. May this man be blessed. Genuinely Genuinely wishing him all the blessings in life and anything he lays his hands on.

Hey Mat!! I've been watching your channel for around a year and love your enthusiasm. I'm an ex mechanic, and wish I had a garage like yours so I could have projects similar to you, so fair play to you. In this video though, you did/said something which annoyed me a little so I'd like to bring it to your attention in a friendly and respectful way, just to give you an insight into a mechanics world... Being an ex dealership technician, I was bound by service and repair times and I can tell you honestly, most of the times the manufacturers give you to do a job are impossible to achieve even with all the tools and training you can imagine. The dealerships use bonus schemes to boost salary and promise on target earnings as long as you can fix the cars within the service and repair times laid out by the manufacturer. My point is, by putting a stop watch on yourself to refit the dash, you're giving dealership managers to moan at technicians for not working fast enough. "That bloke on KZread fitted that dash in 2hrs, so I expect the same from you!" When realistically in a dealership, I doubt the dash, or the engine or whatever would be refitted on the same day if removal, or even week. So, I would like to urge you not to promote how quickly you can do things or have against the clock races as dealerships being the horrible places to work that they are, will use any excuse to make a technician work faster, do more, and get paid less. Keep up the great work Mat, and please take this comment in the constructive manner in which I've sent it.👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Here's an idea, maybe you should keep a tally of the number of plugs you unplug. If you put the dash back and the count is wrong then you've missed one. A level up on that is to take a photo of each plug as you go - in order of unplugging. The upside is you can see where each plug is removed from and where the wires are routed.

Awesome video as usual Mat, FYI, it's the Venturi effect not a centrifugal force you are benefiting from with those air filters. A centrifugal force throws things outwards, E.G. if you go around a tight left hand bend fast, your body will be trying to be thrown in the opposite direction. The Venturi effect increases the speed of the air by restriction as it passes through the narrowing cone shape of the filter which is reducing the air pressure.

If the control unit for the headlights is still good on the original one just swap it over to the new one it might be just a coding issue and with the old one on you don't have to code it again

The car needs a programming for the headlights to work, this can be done with ISTA. Basically you need to tell the car that it got new headlight module.

Wow Matt! You really do a LOT of work on these cars to get them done right! It's great to watch and the style of your videos and your infectious laugh is wonderful! Thank you for all the hard work! Oh and to date of this video and the price he gave the cost is total so far in USA dollars $42550.00. Even if he spends a lot more on it (Which he shouldn't have to spend too much more except those sensors). It is a Smokin deal! Even for a crash damaged car price afterwards.
