Chris sitting behind his desk like a boss 😂😂 Awesome video guys
My Grandad always taught me as a kid always make sure you can unscrew a refill plug before you remove a drain plug.
These 2 guys are so pleasant, joy to watch! Congrats
Lovely job. Very satisfying seeing you get to the heart of the gearbox problem and the car looks fantastic. There's not much you can buy for 6.5k that is that cool.
As an OAP I might just get into it but getting out could be a problem.
I remember Wheeler Dealers had a Porsche similar to this and Ed gave the car a gearbox oil and filter change and it worked as it should with no problems.

Hats off to you guys ive been an engineer for over 40+ years and your workmanship is more than impressive , tell you one thing ,anyone who buys any of your finished cars couldnt get a better rebuild
Well done Rob, what a result!. The rod looked like it had some seals on it, which might have been the failure ?. That solenoid tray is a complicated beast, a nest of tunnels for the ATF to operate the gears, driven by the gearbox ECU of course. I imagine that the gearbox once hot, May have leaked some of the ATF past seals on that operating rod, the fluid being slight more runny when hot. Just a theory, but the new rod has overcome that with the new ATF added. Someone may have realised that the maze of the solenoid tray was suspect in some way, took the sump off and bottled out !. Mercedes had a similar problem with their auto boxes (same design), the solution was to drop the solenoid tray with all the gubbins and do a swap over. Wear on the plastic passages caused the auto boxes to ‘hang’ in second gear. Every day’s a school day !.

I admit I was a bit worried when Rob started removing the valve body having never done it before, I half expected seals to start dropping out and springs flying around the workshop, he deserves a medal for bravery.
Hi Rob & Chris, commenting at 2.10. These Tiptronic systems are very sensitive to the quality of the gearbox oil & condition of the filter. It could be worth the 50/60 quid it would cost to change them. Great channel, great video thanks for all good times
I reckon that’s the best Rob fixes videos the channel ever seen. Great detective work.
That was worth all the perseverance. A lovely low mileage Boxster with no issues . Thanks for the film
Thats a good fix, I remember my Grandmothers house in the early 1970's had Bakerlight, light switches.

Bakelite, used extensively in the '30s to '60s in household switches and the like because of its insulative properties.
Sixty years ago I found an AM-SW radio from WWII, with a case of brown Bakelite. I re-soldered some connection and it worked again, until the tubes (valves) fully heated the case. Then nothing. Turns out the case expanded and pinched a wire against the metal chassis and shorted out the signal. Great memory. Narragansett Bay
Well, there you go, you could never have thought to blame the Bakelite component but somebody must have zero'd in on it at some point. And a very slick new way to crunch the numbers which works really well, so I'm now looking forward even more to the next one.
I think you'll agree Rob and Chris, there's nothing nicer than having a head scratcher of a problem, figuring it out and then fixing it, that's why I love working on cars

It's what I do for a job 🤣🤣 I problem solve and repair electrical lab equipment, always out fixing people's washing machines, tumble driers, ovens, anything electrical I can fix it 🤣 auto gearboxes are the work of the devil though, even when I've studied diagrams they don't make sense 🤣🤣
"Sorry Johnny, you didn’t buy the cheapest Porsche Boxster in the UK" 🤣. ... I was actually thinking that about your one gents as I too had recently watched that episode here on YT, and you saying that gave me a laugh...
Good to see the office again😂 it’s been a while since you’ve done numbers
That was an incredible find gents ! Nice to see you turn a nice profit while saving this ride ! 👍🇨🇦
I liked the way Chris was quietly collecting his thoughts during this.
Great bit of problem solving.
Well done detective Rob, bet that fix would have been a fortune at the 'stealers' very nice profit and worthwhile project 👏
Glad you final finished your sports car. 🎉Congratulations it looks magnificent Rob.
Honest bloke rob if you don’t know you will learn when you try to fix things nice work great content
That was a really interesting and enjoyable series. Best of luck with the sale.
Now that's the Boxster to buy! Also the numbers with both you and Chris trotting up the cost was a lot clearer. 👍
Well done Rob for sorting out that problem I am sure you can get that money for that car as the mileage and one owner is rare 👌👍
MAGIC ROB WELL DONE, 10/ 10
Love your videos guys you always give a good description and do a fantastic job. Your videos can help us all out.
Love that mentality rob get involved and give it a try learn something new on the gear box. “He who dares bruv”. Plenty would have avoided that because it was a Porsche
Unbelievable! up there as one of the best project you've flipped. Top work chaps!
If you had raffled that car at £10 a ticket I would have bought 4 tickets. Please give thumbs up if you would have bought tickets.
I knew you and Chris would get this motor back to its former glory ❤ it has come up lovely and running 🏃♂️ brilliant 👏. New office looks great fellas and you two look quite at home in it 👏, stay lucky and healthy looking forward to Saturdays video 📹 already 😊.
I saw Jonny on the Late Brake Show claim the cheapest Boxster, and wondered if you'd pick it up!
Lovely car, those seats look amazing. Glad you got the gearbox sorted. I'm so glad the scrapmen couldn't take it, as it is far too nice of a car.
Fantastic once again Rob & Chris 👏
Bakelite was used for radios and telephones in the 60s
Not for the faint Hearted Rob and Chris brilliant video guys
So glad this one worked out, it was def fun to follow, shame there is no time to get it painted, somebody is getting a bloody nice car there tho
Rob & Chris, your KZread channel is one of the most interesting car programmes. Your constant positive attitude never fails to impress and is so enjoyable to watch. What a particularly like is it is not just about crash repairs, but also about engineering a problem to find the solution. The Boxster would have probably cost more £6,500 to be sorted at a Porsche garage, so selling it for £6,500 to someone will be a bargain for the amount of work you have done. If I was the buyer, to paraphrase two of your phrases, the price would not be “Spiteful” and I would be “made up “ !!! P.s how about a few classic cars, like that Viva in the yard ?
`interesting episode Rob, you had balls to take that cover off! - Please though they are Allen headed Bolts not Screws ;-)
I think the troubleshooting videos are my favourite. Excellent work.
Amazing turnaround. From potential scrap to 6K! Awesome result
like the handmade radiator.
god my jaw hit the floor 500 god why do i never find these cheap cars iv been after a barging one of these
Rob, I hope you tightened up the sump to spec! They don't need a lot of torque and over tightening them allows for leaks, even if you have put sealant. 90% sure service manual doesn't call for sealant on gear sump. Believe it or not.
Great viewing, loved the gearbox fault diagnosis, someone will get a bargain !
Ref using sealant on gaskets. I’m an old school time served car mechanic, and always used LM grease on gaskets (both sides) and they never leak, plus if you need to remove again, no problem. Love the channel lads. Rob
Well done Rob a lot of hard work put into this one and worth every penny. What a great team you and Chris make
These are the great repairs. A lot of puzzeling and then somrthing simple solves i👍
That was a great project, the new office looking good too 👍
I really liked the Rob and Chris doing the price break down together! Really good fun! 😁👍
bakelite?? they used that on old wartime phones!!!! nice job on the boxster that will be a bargain for some one !
What a cracking car great job Rob that was a great video really enjoyed it
Glad you got it sorted 😎
Awesome video thanks lads very much appreciated top job top team 🇬🇧
Hello Rob, great results on the Boxster, with the upgrade it has certainly improved the gear change.amazing car in the right colour.
Well done for getting to the bottom of that issue 😀
Well done for finally crackin the issue Rob, Bargin 👍👍
Nice fix Rob- I did the gearbox on my Jag XJ as it was in limp mode- only thing I would say about the sump install was that there was a tightening sequence much like doing a head gasket and it needed torquing to spec. Probably not a problem but I always stick to the book! 👍🏻

That's what I thought
Brilliant work Rob. Your a brave man tackling that gearbox well done . 500 pounds got to be the best bargain ever.
That’s a great keeper boys you will never lose any money on that Porsche it’s beautiful 😍
Nice video Rob and Chris. I remember some of the old telephone casings were made of bakelite. They became quite collectable apparently.

Yes bakelite was the first plastic ever made. It has a characteristic smell about it.
Enjoyed it good work and problem solving both 😊
Always enjoy the videos best of luck with all the projects 👍👍👍
Brilliant work Rob & Chris. That is gonna be a great car for someone. Especially with this video showing the TLC you gave it. 👍👍
Thanks guys -- always great to see you doing well out of something -- you earn it for sure
Well done Rob, I would have thrown the towel in ! You didn’t and look what you have achieved, great outcome you fully deserve your rewards. Mark
Well done, guys. Someone will get a very nice motor just a pity winter is approaching. Great story.
Have you replaced gearbox filter and oil, filling the oil needs a special tool to pump the oil in under pressure
Great result lads a bakerlite main component !!! penny pinching by Porsche there me thinks
I’ve loved this series. ❤
Bakerlight?, was this car made in Germany in the 1930s😂
I remember on the wheeler dealer programme with mike & edd, mike bought a porsche boxster s for a grand and there was a problem with the gearbox. They replaced the gearbox filter what you replaced rob and it cured it.

Just about to say the same its the gearbox filter
Love that generation of Boxster, inspired by the early Porsche Speedsters and an instant modern day classic. 😎 Great to know Johnny Smith is a fan of Salvage Rebuilds U.K., he’s a top bloke and a fellow Citroën fan.
Awsome end result and to think it almost got scrapped
You did well, Fellers. That seemed such a headache, I thought you were going to give; but you did not. Interesting video
Well done rob top work and its a lovely car too.
Strange about bakelite though... electrical industry used it a lot ...because of it's resistance to temp. and fire
Keep it lads! You put a lot of thought and work in. You have restored it well, soon it will be worth a fortune . It’s got your name on it.
I am amazed that Bakelite was still in use when this car was built! It was the predecessor to plastic for anyone too young to know. It was used in cars in the fifties and before, the Ford Anglia dashboard was made from it for example. It had many other uses which I wont get into but yes when it got hot it would crack/graze, not the sort of thing you want to happen to your radio! This car has been a real adventure and yes some head scratching but you got there in the end. I think even if you sell it as it is the new owner will do well to get a respray as you highlighted all the faults in the paint in a previous video it would be a shame not to finish the job. Well dome Rob and Chris for all your hard work on this one and a good profit at the end of the day which is what it's all about. 👍👍

Had the exact same problem on a 1992 e36 a few years ago. Replaced the same part, now working perfect.
Good vid. Quality vehicle well worth the asking price. Well done lads 👍
Not for the faint Hearted, Well done on this one Rob and Chris brilliant video Lads ☺
A superb buy and restoration fellas ! Someone is going to get a lovely car, low mileage and after the paint job will be pristine ! 👍
Good morning from Tenerife 😊 It shows if you perceiver with something it’ll come good in the end 👍🏻 And you guys show that time & time again 👏🏻 What a lovely motor it turned out to be guys. That office looks so cool especially with Sir Chris sat behind the desk with the big blue folder lol 😆 Off for a swim in the pool now guys lol 😆
Great content..made a lovely car..Great seeing the problem solving..good work chaps..👌💪
You guys have nailed it. Good luck for the future. Great channel by the way.
Main thing is its sorted well done Rob😊
At least you had the Cohones to get inside that auto box to have a look Rob, most peeps would walk away or pay silly amounts of Cash for somebody else to do it, well done and a great price for that car
Rob this Porsche is like my Rover 45. When the engine is warm the clutch pedal never squeaks, but as soon as it is hot it squeaks constantly. Everything inside and outside has been red greased and still it does it.

hello Chris & Rob. So surprised that a small item could cause such a big problem!!Now all sorted out and what a bargain for you and the person who (maybe?) buys it!! Best wishes from Lincolnshire.
Fair play to you guys 100% for effort and well done for bringing that Boxster back to life...
thankyou gentlemen an excellent finish,👍👍
Great content guys!
I was thinking call Josh! What an absolute beauty of a car for the money, the only one I know with lower miles is the 1998 Boxster in Haynes Museum that's done 17,900 miles. A superb car for the next owner!
A good video especially if you own one .. the knowledge is good to know ..😊
"Something that small can cause that many problems" That's what my wife said when she found out she was pregnant! 😛😛
Great job again guys, what a lovely car that has turned out to be
What a lovely car , good price as well , nice profit good luck guys👍👍
