I bought a couple that are in shipping right now. NitroV is a great budget steel and I like the design - that color combo is nice. I'm kinda over button locks so I'm curious to see how this works. This should be a great opportunity to get Reate knives into the hands of people who don't want to spend what their higher-end knives typically cost.

I think the pivot lock is a much better option than a button lock, and that comes from someone with many button locks! I hope it's the new wave for button locking knives, but the only downside is the thickness of the handle that is required for the lock mechanism

@@OGBladeReviews I assume they went with a "budget" model to gauge interest before they implement it in their typical high(er) end stuff. I'm also sure that all the other Chinese OEMs are paying just as much attention as Reate is. The thicker handle is definitely gonna keep people away though, especially with the recent push for thin handles. It's listed as .6" thick, that's the same thickness as my XM-24.

Yes I'm in agreement with you on those points and covered some of that in the review. I believe they're testing the waters for sure. This is a pretty nice little blade if you don't mind the 3-in blade size and handle thickness. I'm sure they'll figure out a way to do a pivot lock with a thinner handle

I have a Gerber Paul 2 with a similar locking mechanism. The Gerber also locks closed

I had a couple of those back a long while ago when they first came out. B'Yond EDC also made a Pinkerton design with a pivot lock last year although I think they're out of production for the moment

The pivot lock is inferior compared to the competition. Reate should have used 14C28N or 154CM. I really dislike NitroV. On the other hand, I don't need to buy this. I'm happy.

I'm not sure I'm clear on your first statement. Are you saying that the pivot lock is inferior to other types of locks or to the pivot locks of other manufacturers? At this point in time there are very few pivot locks out there that I'm aware of.... 🤔 I'll certainly agree that nobody needs to buy anything and there's no compulsion being made here of course. Nitro-V , also is 14C28N with added vanadium which refines the structure and grains of the steel, which reduces its sensitivity to overheating, and increases its strength and toughness.... What's not to like? No worries though, since we're all experts on our own likes and dislikes... 👊🗡️👍

Yes, there are a few. BeyondEDC, CRKT, Defcon, Aurora Knife & Tool. I always prioritize corrosion resistance and edge retention OVER toughness. NitroV is a carbon steel, whose best asset is toughness. Nice job on the video. @@OGBladeReviews

Not to perpetuate a debate here but Nitro V is stainless, and perhaps a bit more so than AEL-b or 14c28N, according to Larrin Thomas. If you have a source which states that it is a carbon steel and rust prone , as such, then I'd be very interested in looking at that source. Check This: knifesteelnerds.com/2019/09/23/nitro-v-its-properties-and-how-to-heat-treat-it/

Not to butt in - I could be wrong but I have some of his charts memorized - Larrin, and 14c if I remember correctly is tougher and more corrosion resistant than nitro V and identical in their retention - 14c gets credit but not enough. Based on its toughness alone it could be a super steel add in the fact that it has almost super steel corrosion resistance as well - I consider it a premium steel - just my opinion. With all that being said nitro V is a good steel under $100 - id still take 14c over nitro V and 154cm along with any other steel used under $100
