I train alone and I've pulled my lower back a couple times deadlifting. You would hear the audible "pop”, then I'd just waddle away. After a while I became scared of the Deadlift. I think I have the technique down now, but what really helped was the "lowering of the belly into the thighs" cue. I try to think about inflating a balloon in my belly and having that the thing which prevents my lower back from giving way. I don’t focus so much on extending my back as much as thinking about “big belly” before a pull. Just pulled 475# for 5!

just wanna apologize to rip for ever doubting knees out and hip drive. knees have slowly been becoming painful and i finally reread the squat chapter and applied knees out and hip drive instead of leg drive tonight. squats were stable, faster, easier to feel depth, and absolutely no lateral travel and knees are feeling amazing. rip is the squat master for us natties who just wanna get strong and not fuck up our knees.

If you get a hernia doing the program, you were going to get a hernia anyway. It won’t kill you.

Haha i am in need of a beating because I know I can pull much more (with injuries that are moderate/getting better). I can definitely feel that "just leave it there!" But progress doesnt work that way when doing this strength program

I think sets of 5 is good but only to a certain level. For me 3 or 4 sets of 3 works best. Then with plenty of resting days, about 10 days and 3 weeks apart I can go up 5-10 Lbs from the previous session. Currently working with sets of 3 with 529 Lbs.

In the book it tells you to go to 3's eventually. Especially on the bench. You can do 3's on the squat or you can do 5's with the last two sets being at a 5% reduction from the first set. Deadlifts eventually anywhere from 3-5. OH Press can go down to 3's or you can just aim for 15 total reps so that you can get used to hitting very heavy singles

mark rippetoe think we still living in the 80s? kids now live on phones from birth, they are weak, physically and mentally, and such a tough approach will not work on them like it used to 50 years back

mark rippetoe is a damn dogmatic bastard who won't stay in his lane... he makes fun of my kettle bell and bosu ball exercises, says i'll never lift any appreciable weight this way, but the fact is i rate my reps at 11 (out of 10) RPE, so it's a damn hard workout, and my CORE is getting stronger everyday 📈

You're not eating enough. A lifter of your height needs to get to at least 275. It's physical. It boggles the mind that you can't understand that. You cannot deadlift 375 unless you get more contractile tissue for your farm.

@@Calaxt01You have to assess all factors, were you sleeping enough compared to when you pulled 350? Did you get enough calories in? And if 5lbs jumps are too big, then try 2.5lbs jumps or some derivative.
