Reason Objekt - the return of digital waveguide synthesis

Музыка

Here's a demo of Reason Studios Objekt, a new digital waveguide / modeling plugin synthesizer. All parameters are editable and it's possible to use live sounds or recorded sounds as an "exciter", which leads so some pretty spectacular results. Table of contents:

Some bands / artists I've been following for a long time are (among others) Massive Attack, Pink Floyd, Pet Shop Boys, Archive, A-Ha, Yes, Porcupine Tree, John Mellencamp, Jean-Michel Jarre, Metallica, Peter Gabriel and Perturbator. So my music will kind of sound like those (without ever reaching the greatness of those artists, of course). :-)

Aren't the drums actually MT-powerdrums? Beacuse they sound oddly similar to them atleast.

Aaah, dang, you're right! I used the wrong audio track in the DAW. :-( Here's the correct one: soundcloud.com/floyd_steinberg/reason-objekt-loop Thanks for pointing it out! (Edit: This refers to the second demo track using the guitar and the Alesis drums - in the first demo, the drums are from Objekt)

I've never used Reason, and I can't make any sense of their website. What else would I need to install or buy, to be able to use this, and what does that cost?

Hi, I'm not a Reason sales person, I just made a video on objekt because I really like modeling synths ;-) That being said, as far as I've understood it, Reason is a DAW that can only be used in conjunction with a subscription model. This is around $20 a month. Reason also comes with a "Rack" VST so you can just load their plugins into your favourite DAW.

@@mr_floydst Thanks. Yes, I've been watching your videos for a while, now. I realise you're not promoting it, but it's all a mystery to me. I think I'll let it remain that way :) If it had been a regular VST, for any DAW, that would be different. I might even have paid for it - stranger things have happened.

No offense but it's really straight forward... works like most modern Software licenses... you either buy a license out right or opt into a subscription model If you buy the license it only contains stock plug-ins. Other plugins by reason can be purchased separately for their eco system. This includes object. The subscription model includes all additional devices by the company

@@mr_floydstthis is false... you can buy reason including the DAW and Plugin outright Reason itself is a daw, however the rack component of this daw which contains all effects, instruments and other devices can be used externally as a plugin in any other daw as you correctly stated

@@reptilejesus829 Thanks for the explanation. The website focused on talking me into "getting started" with it, but avoided showing me the cost. I hate that style of marketing, so I gave up. Even so, to me this plugin is a VST that won't run as a VST in a DAW I already have (Cantabile). Whatever else Reason does, I've never had it so I don't need it. At best, it would be another complicated piece of software to learn how to use and I don't need that in my life.

I dont know why but KZread instantly blocks My comments that mention the popular online bidding site beginning with E, anyway Reason 11 lite is on there for $20 and Rack extensions work so if people want Objekt but are reluctant to invest the $400 for Reason 12 then that's the way to go. Plus the intro price for Objekt is $20 off.

Modeling synths are best played live with expressive controllers like wind instruments, MPE keyboards and so on. This year, there are some interesting new modeling synths. The expressive osmose, the anyma omega, and this plugin. Of course it's all a matter of taste, modeling synths have a very specific sound to them.

Load one of the 500 presets and find something you like, put it on a loop and move any of the knobs and see if it sounds better or worse for you, or just use the radomisor.

Objekt sounds incredible but you need Reason 12 or whatever to run it which cost megabucks. I certainly couldn't afford it.

  • @mr_floydst

Thanks for watching! It's not cheap indeed. But it also comes with some very useful / good sounding plugins, so perhaps the asking price of $500 isn't that far off. I think they have a monthly plan for $20 per month. Another option is to wait for the Aodyo Omega. That will certainly not be cheap either, but you'll get a hardware that looks the part. ;-) There are a lot of older modeling synths around - the Korg Z1, Yamaha's workstations. But most of them will just give you a selection of premade "models" to tinker with.
