Thanks for the positive comments guys, we have no run 8.24 at 175mph
easily one of my favourite cars doing the rounds now. congrats to the owner and the guys team around it.
A few pros and cons with rear mount but the extra plumbing gives the intercooler a bit of help and definitely keeps the heat out of the engine bay. Would also be easier to work on. Different but it works.
Rear Turbo really keeps the heat manageable
Great build was a pleasure to watch, cant believe there's so many haters and dislikes? bloody weirdos.
Very cool car! I was not aware of rear mount turbo setups until now. Thanks for sharing.
Not usually my cup of tea but I'm very impressed! Nice to see how well spoken the owner is too...
I frigging love it!! It sounds like a Jet car going down the track! Awesome job! We have a bunch of these rear turbo cars in the states
never new a set up like this actually existed till now that's for sharing I learnt something today gives me an idea for my rx7 am building
I remember seeing this thing cruising the streets one day and I just knew it by the way it sounded it was a bit special. Awesome little rig!
Love the nanna hat on the front!

Very well engineered! Love the sunvisor and orignal brown paint..a real retiree's car....rear mounted turbos are a great idea.
Awesome build, great performance from sleeper like car. Parachute and giant tyres give a clue on drag strip.
Great interview. So casual. What a friggin' WEPUN!!!
What a Brilliant little sleeper
Such a great car! Thanks for sharing!
one of the best stories i have watched
Beautiful piece of machinery
Love this. What a great car,great dood. Forget the haters.Miss my Torana.
Wow!!! What a quick car. Good luck with you're car. Jon
Beautifully put together car well done to you all
This just makes me happy !!! So cool.
cant believe how much ground this torrie covers so quickly. holy shit, what a weapon
This car is just perfect as is!
Thats one bad ass little car.
Going down that track like a dream. Grip and go. No bouncing around and shite.

I think remember this was a mod to the old Trans Ams and Camaros it was easier to remove the muffler and stick it there than try and stuff it under the hood.
love a good backdraft turbo build!
man that sound it makes is so sweet. like a little brown fighter jet.👍👍👍👍
Cool as shit, I fucken love the RACQ badge, visor and paint work aye. The thing is absolutely stellar.
8 second car!!!! Impressive!
very impressive mate
Car built right.
holy shit the top end power. what a comeback at the beginning.
that is a really nice car
Sweet little car. True sleeper.
Just found this. Totally sick build. Lovin' it. Need more stuff like this in UK. Sweeeeeet!!!!

Now I know to look under the rear at all times. Just in case anyone has any funny ideas going on under there. 😂
well. done. Old. mate. great. job.
beautiful
Nice car. Good drag racing. "Are we having fun yet" ? Heck yea lol
Update ! 7.81 at 177 MPH - 3250 pound street car
Nice sleeper. It's probably driven to church on Sundays as well.
That's fucking sick.
That thing flies
Just makes sense you would be using a massive intercooler anyway with front turbo, and rear mount helps put weight towards the back
Monster sleeper
That thing is soooo tidy ❤
fullboost should check out the rest of the shed. should hit webby up for a tour.
hoooly f..! what a brown lightningbolt!
glad to see another proven rear turbo car! I love mine

No, he's saying the engine is strong and it runs hard by itself anyway, it's not like some 2ltr with a large turbo, waiting for boost

Realistically a 5L v8 doesn't spend much time under 3k RPM, I'm really glad their setup works so well I want to do a similar rear mount with a 5.7L magnum, do they have no intercooler? Just using the return charge air cooling under the car or did I miss that?
@Steezypleasy
8 жыл бұрын
+Christopher Hurley It looks like there is an intercooler. Check out how the intake manifold piping heads down towards the front bar and there is another pipe coming up the other side.

Turbo lag and boost threshold are two completely different things. The turbo reaches boost at 3k, it has nothing to do with what turbo lag is.
@mareksumguy1887

When will people learn about boost threshold vs lag!!
yes gentlemen, heat energy into mechanical... its not the "bloww" of exhaust gass that spins the turbo, but actually the expansion of eat... mind blown!
Need this on my L98 (LS2+) VE ute. Zippidy dooda!
wow never seen a rear setup like that before
nice colour
Good to know you still run a muffler per turbo.....Going rear mount on a low grout home built 355.....
I've seen a rear turbo set up on a gto gotta say real sneaky place to put it lol
love it...
Factory paint :O mad
RIP harry's car show nights :(
Very nice. Its there a video on how to install the Turbos in the Rear?
all that tubing must add a ton of lag. however it looks like it makes the boost come in much smoother as the turbo steadily pressurize all that plumbing evident with how it just walks off the line but appears to make more and more power throughout the run. as a person who's always shunned the idea of a rear mounted system, I've been convinced that it actually works :-) that, and it might actually be better suited to people who like a more predictable delivery of power

Richard Holdener dynod quite a few and it appears the curves are delayed by 1000 rpm or so but the rest of the curve is exactly the same as a front turbo, no midrange or top end losses.
fucking love it LOVE THAT BUILD FUCKIN A that how it shood always be built I am impressed
awesome
that is fucking awesome. fucking insane
Reminds me of the P-47 Thunderbolt fighter aircraft from WW2.
damn right Americans been doin it a long time!!
with all that pipework how can it have no lag at all, well done sir for defying physics
@HUBBABUBBADOOPYDOOP
8 жыл бұрын
Actually- "with all that pipe work" you can build in a tremendous amount of backpressure *_volume_*. Think of it as a capacitor for exhaust. Think about it.
@madmaniacloony
8 жыл бұрын
how though every time you lift surely it would all escape and youd have to build all that pressure in the large volume of piping again. please enlighten me

give me his number and i will lol and i thought it may have something to do with that but im no turbo yoda, also im guessing thats a pretty small turbo for a 5l v8 but still i find it hard to believe you can totally eliminate lag without a pretty radical solution
@zmanmd1641
8 жыл бұрын
Turbo lag is only apparent in transitions from small throttle to full throttle at low RPM. In drag racing, the throttle is floored with the trans-brake and rev limiter controlling the RPM somewhere between 2-4k. The turbo is making boost at that RPM, but not full boost. As the trans-brake is released, the rev limiter releases, triggering full fuel flow with a wide open throttle and boost already present. So a drag car would never experience lag at the track. If he floored it from idle, he would most definitely experience lag until boost makes it way to the intake in a couple of seconds. It just won't be so apparent due to the large engine's natural torque in a light weight car.
good o !!!!!!!!, nice to see your old girl pulling 8's, your torana looks similar to the uk Vauxhall Victor of the 70's

There's no lag when you brake boost. thats simple to understand.
Lag is a function of turbine and compressor mass not distance from the motor since a rise in a pressure vessel at one point = a simultaneous rise at all points iirc.

Well said.
@goguhu

Air does not move instantaneously, and nor does exhausts. Increase the distance from the piston (in/out) and you add time for exhaust to build pressure, spin the turbo, and air to move back to the intake. Yes, the mass (size) of the turbo does also add lag, but air movement/distance is the main cause of lag. This is also why newer engines put the turbo in the 'V' to get it closer to in/out, to lower the lag.

Mate you can't just make shit up. That is not how it works.
@goguhu
7 жыл бұрын
ThePaulv12 That's for in compressible fluids (AKA liquids), under 'reasonable' compression (excluding neutron stars here), however a gas (air) is VERY compressible ... something like 1000:1, while water is next to uncompressed (< 0.01%). Good example for this is wind ... wind just don't appear around the planet in an instant, it start somewhere, and then progresses, same with sound waves. And that's actually how quick a compression can move through a material (in compressible materials have a much higher speed, 10x or more than air).
It seems like it would be laggy, but in actuality it all depends on intercooler piping diameter.. A FMIC with traditional turbo setup would probably use 3"+ intercooler piping (on say a street Evo, not this racecar), but with the rear mount he'd have to do smaller piping to reduce pressure drop and lag.. It might actually be a cooler intake-charge running a rear-mount setup too.. Hmmm?
Retro rocket cheers.
What a great little car, a real sleeper that would shock the shit out if so many people, impossible in the wet though
