Two more hilarious Monroe films (both directed and co-written by the legendary Billy Wilder) are: Some Like It Hot (on many lists of funniest films ever made) and The 7-Year Itch. And her wardrobes in both films are fabulous! If you want to see Monroe play serious roles: The Misfits and Don’t Bother To Knock are impressive.

The source for the film was a 1925 novel of the same name written by one of the female screenwriters in early Hollywood about a golddigging flapper. It became a musical in 1949.

Harry Winston is a jewelry house that started around 1930 and provides jewelry, timepieces, etc at the highest prices and owns some of the most valuable jewels in the world. They sometimes loan pieces for celebrities to wear at ceremonies or in films, along with the constant presence of security guards.

Dorothy wasn't a sleep around kind of girl, she was just flirty and liked the companionship of men and for her it was the person not their money that was the attraction but she understood Lorelei and accepted her for who she was though they were very different. What the film really represents is the strength of their friendship. No matter what trouble either (though mostly Lorelei) found themselves in it was never "Well what are you going to do?" but always "Sister, we're really in a jam now!" and they worked together and had each other's backs always. By the way in Jane's big number "Is There Anyone Here for Love?" she wasn't suppose to go into the pool at the end but when they were shooting she was knocked in then came up still singing and the director sensing that it added something to the number kept filming. This was Jane's biggest movie, 20th Century Fox borrowed her from her home studio RKO (she was the bigger star at the time-this is the film that truly cemented Marilyn's star status) and her films there were more noir focused. The best of them though did utilize her gift to infuse humor into a snappy line of dialog. Probably her next two best films are "His Kind of Woman" with Robert Mitchum and "The Las Vegas Story" with Victor Mature. For Marilyn I'd suggest either "Some Like It Hot" or "Niagara" (which was her film just before this one) as the next places to go exploring her filmography.

Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend is Marilyn's signature song, and has been paid homage by Madonna in her Material Girl music video, and at the 2024 oscar ceremony by Ryan Gosling during his I'm Just Ken song.

Yes its Marilyn's singing voice. And its not out of place for people to have sing-alongs back then. There was no TV and most families sang around a piano of an evening and at get togethers so the bon voyage party seems very natural of its time to me. This film was adapted from a stage musical. In reference to your comment that the songs felt shoe-horned in, I would argue this is one of the strongest musicals where the songs are a natural by-product of the story. The two woman are both professional singers at the start of the film. So it's normal for them to sing. Dorothy's courtroom song was delaying tactics. Diamonds was a show performance. The goodbye on the boat song was a farewell party. PS.. The Australian Crawl is a swimming stroke. When Dorothy falls in the pool that was unscripted but they kept it.

Tbf in a lot of settings some men will chase a beautiful woman to the ends of the earth just because she's beautiful and the same is true for certain women. Gus wanted Lorelei for her looks and Lorelei wanted Gus for his money. Even with the Piggy fiasco, Lorelei was faithful she was only swindling Piggy for diamonds. Still wrong but she never betrayed Gus. I think everyone should be this honest because it's more likely you'll get what you want, like attracts like and in this case vapid attracts vapid.

Wow. Thank you for reacting to this iconic film. However I found it odd to see you laughing, smiling, and making shocked delighted faces throughout, to then only say it was "decent.. pretty good" at the end. This is a top-tier Marilyn film.

15:00 _Wait, why are they all calling it 'valet'_ It's only pronounced 'valey' if he's parking your car. It's 'valet' with a 't' when he's a personal servant. I learned that from watching Archer. Btw, you should react to Archer, I'm pretty sure you'd love it.

When dorothy got knocked into the pool, that was an accident. She came up and kept performing, so it was included in the film.

For Audrey Hepburn you have to do Sabrina. It’s a classic!!! Marilyn is partially dubbed. I know Marni Nixon did the high notes but not sure what else.
