23:30 I beg to differ. SME's are likely to be replaced by LLM's. Today someone with zero knowledge about a specific domain can use LLM's to identify and rectify problems. Also with equals like Private GPT and even Open AI for corporates, there are ways in which LLM helps give recommendations based on the companys knowledge bank. So not sure what SME's would be doing in that case?

The truth is, after 40 there is a cost involved for the individual, you choose career or family. I think most men suffer in their 40's. The most messy phase of life. No one understands you, neither wife, kids nor parents. Sadly micro family is a failure and thats the core issue.

Im in IT for 24 yrs. I have worked in 6 countries, im 48 and i suffered two layoffs. Don't worry, learn new things on the job. My style is, look for long , slow running activities, more people intensive activities and try to optimise it. You dont have to learn new things. Just try to optimise what you do on daily work. You will survive at work for long. Im still hands on coding. AI can be done even in Microsoft EXCEL. AI is a concept , as i gave an example above, find the problem, identify repeated problem, solve it, monitor it. You will be a star in your office. Jai Hind.

Even if you keep learning new tech after 35 or 40 years age. Still there will be young talent who will be more cost effective . So the point is with increasing age, your chances to survive will always be low and will keep reducing Edit 1 : keep investing and make a big portfolio. 2 : think about having another source of income along with your IT job salary.

The problem is continuous learning. I mean continuous learning sounds good when you are young. But when you age, it's very difficult to study everyday. But in IT, everyday study is required these days because of AI. And when you age, you have responsibilities which will give you less time. So responsibilities, growing age, less energy, less studying time will lead to chaos.

But my java skills are still relevant. Being more experienced makes you invaluable. Problem is Indian IT is ruled by shitty service firms like TCS, info etc. And, experienced programmers can't utilize their skills fully in India. Thats what I wanted to say. Indian IT services companies wanted to run the show with kids. They are less bothered about quality of delivery and innovation (for innovation, they are aquiring foreign companies). And there is one more branch growing in these IT companies is Infra Support (ITIL), where qualified engineers are being utilized for password reset, taking and restoring backups, server management, onboarding and offboarding of employees etc. So the clear message for young IT talent is leave your mother country. After 40, there is very minute possibility that you will get any IT job in India, even if you learn any latest technology. So to survive in your current job, keep attending those useless calls, preparing and presenting those flase 'all green' ppt's and if you have latent of buttering your manager, concentrate on improving that skill :D

Actually people in their 40s shouldn't worry if they've been smart so far with their money management. They've worked for about 15 years and have another 10 to 15 years to go. If they've used their salary so far to invest and create a good corpus with good asset allocation, then they shouldn't worry. But if they haven't been smart with their money, they will struggle and this is what we see with most today. There's no point of upgrading yourself with more knowledge if you don't manage your money properly. So, one skill that most IT people should attain is money management. All this upgrading and learning new technology will only help their employers and not them. Make salary irrelevant in your 40s with an investment corpus so big that you can throw the resignation on your manager and walk away. Unfortunately, most people can't do it.😊

Sara gyan victim ko doge kya? Ab mere sawalo ka javab do. Companies ne khud ko upgrade kiya? Apna programming language banaya? Apna operating system banaya (except ISRO)? Apna social media banaya? Apna chatgpt jaisa kuch banaya? Musibat aati hai to Indian ban jate hai. IT companies are behaving like bollywood. Dekhte jao ab kya kya hota hai.

If there are 100 developers in a village, all 100 developers cannot go to high roles even if they have competence. So the logic is simple. As you age, there are 90 precent chances for 90 precent of the developers to lose job. But they can create a business instead of working for a company.

This is true. Myself faced it. It is extremely depressing. It has made me sit back and wonder what next, and i hsve still not figured it out. Dont have business sense. And yes I am an introvert. I was being pushed into management... which i hated though mostly everyone appreciated my work ethic, because i believe in giving clear expectations and then i dont nag or interfere. However, frankly management takes not much talent except clear decision making. A lot of people undervalue this skillset. Then they make foolish people as managers and cycle continues. Basically in a cost cutting environment, middle management layer easily gets axed. I hate that i don't know how to earn independently. I am very impressed by KZreadrs, but i dont wish to face the camera. I also find social media too toxic. People just go around being negative thoughtlessly but it affects your mental health. I am not blaming anyone. This is reality. If u have not been good at politics to rise to higher management then your age will play against you in middle management roles. I wish everyone of us in this predicament find a way out. I am still trying to be hopeful...but its tough keeping a positive look. Worry creeps in, while savings deplete. And more thsn anything...being discarded like this....affects your self confidence.

I would suggest to young generation to plan your life well in advance and drive your jobs accordingly so that your expertise will make you indispensable.

I am 49 years architect and product lead in top service based company for last 25 yeaes. Being responsible for learning and hiring these are my suggestions for 25 to 40 above professionals. 1. Try to be among top performer 5 to 10 percent of the employees. 2. Improve your communication skill and maintain excellent relation with your colleagues. Try to be in office and avoid WFH. Face to face communication help you to build professional and personal relations. Try to help others and contribute to solve other problems. 3. Be disciplined and serious of your work. 80 percentage of the current generation are not serious abt the work and deadline. If work is assigned to you ,manager should not ask status, try to complete beforehand with high qualiyy. 5. Learn new technology and be expert in multiple skill. Client and company appreciate who understand muliple technology and thik holistic

I did all of this and yet my Indian coworkers, management, and the HR killed my career. People who gossiped all day or were troublemakers were promoted and growing in their career. There were many things I (and my community) had no knowledge about --- racism, Indian casteism, Indian murder house culture, etc. Today, when I look back to understand the Indian behaviour meted out to me/us, it's Talibanism, racism, casteism, politicking mind, and attempt to murder me that they practiced with me.

Most of the people i manage are senior to me in age but junior in term of smartness nd research as well as thorough understanding of business! "I've witnessed a unique trend in the IT industry over my 20-year career, one that diverges from common perceptions. Today's young professionals, often fresh from prestigious institutions like IIT, enter the field with a strong desire to engage in core development work. However, this aspiration typically lasts only 2 to 3 years. Soon, external pressures mount - from peers, family, and their social circle - driving them towards managerial roles. The prevailing belief in the industry is that significant salary increases only occur when one ascends to a managerial position. Consequently, many IT professionals feel compelled to rapidly climb the corporate ladder, aiming for leadership roles within a few years of joining. However, this transition to management comes with its pitfalls. Many lose touch with the very technology that drew them to the field. Yet, in an industry as dynamic as IT, maintaining technological proficiency is crucial. Continuous learning and skill enhancement aren't just recommended; they're necessary. It's a daily commitment to stay relevant and effective in this ever-evolving landscape."
