Can you dye this??
@obiwansattic35
6 ай бұрын
@@ErgonomicChairShort answer is YES-I’ve added tints to realistic water. Just when you stir it obviously go gently so you don’t create a lot of bubbles. WS does have a whole line of water tints too if you want to play it safe specifically made for realistic water and deep pour water, but I believe a small drop or two of 100% acrylic paint will work as well. Hope that helps
Nice model for demonstration purposes of your products. The time and effort that went into presenting this model in the most realistic way, tells us a lot (in an untold way) your belief and commitment to your products. This is what I like about companies, which is the genuine belief in their products. Kudos.
We do have 2 other great videos on waterfalls specifically that address what you are looking for. They are called “Modeling Waterfalls” and “Quick Tips for Modeling Waterfalls”. You can find either of them here on KZread or by visiting our website and choosing the video tab on Water. If you have further questions after viewing these, please feel free to contact us for technical support. Happy Modeling!
Very nice and simple video. Good interview approach simulates how a firstimer would ask questions just to be certain during the process.
The Realistic Water will have the glassy finish that you are seeing when it is completely dry. No additional sealing or treatments are necessary or should be applied.
Yes, in addition using Woodland Scenics Earth Color Liquid Pigments, you can use any other 100% acrylic paint, Rit-like dye or food coloring. Pour Realistic Water into a disposable cup and mix in desired amount of color very slowly to avoid bubbles. If bubbles occur, cover and let set until they disperse (approx. 2 hours). Do a small test area and let cure for a minimum of 24 hours to verify desired color.
Cool video but don't think it was really necessary to have the second guy there just stating the obvious and repeating everything that was said. Got a bit annoying after a while.

Woodland Scenics... Im now using your product line to add scenery to my layout.. I am very young (16) and it is so easy to make a realistic landscape with your products and tutorial videos! Thank you so much!

And now you are 24 and I am 16
The paint is Water Undercoat and is not for individual sale. To recreate this look, first paint the entire terrain, including water area, with Earth Undercoat (C1229). In the center of the water area, use Slate Gray (C1219) or Black (C1220) to model deep water. For the shoreline, dilute the darker pigment with 16-parts water or choose a lighter shade, such as Stone Gray (C1218). Blend the edges where the paint shades meet to avoid harsh transition lines and model realistic changes in depth.
Thank you! Yes it was a great help! I'm hoping my local train and hobby shop will order it for me. Thank you again!
Thank you for this video. It appears water modelling isn't as complicated as I thought!

Great video, guys. I went to my local train store and picked up a bottle of each today. Much appreciated for the tips.
Hello ColCaffran, Our EZ Water is a product that is heated and then poured, our Rock Molds are rubber-like and the heat would damage the mold. We do have a couple of great recommendations for creating glaciers and frozen water features on our website. You can also find tips in the videos there, in our A+ Projects & Dioramas Handbook which is a free downloadable .pdf book or in the FAQ’s sections in both our Woodland Scenics & Scene-A-Rama product lines. Hope that helps!
The clear disc was made from Realistic Water and left to cure overnight. This is explained in the video starting at 1:56. Hope this helps!
awesome.. scale modeling forever! Ive seen woodland scenics at hobby store, gotta try them out..
The paints are our Earth Color Liquid Pigments. You can add pigment to the water, however, we recommend that you paint the surface of your water feature to give the illusion of depth, instead, and choose pigments that reflect the colors of a muddy pond. If you do not use our Pigments, make sure that whatever pigment or paint you use is 100% acrylic, with no fillers, otherwise it may react adversely with the Realistic Water, and follow the directions on the Realistic Water bottle exactly.
If you are asking if we mixed Earth Colors Liquid Pigment (C1215-C1223) with Realistic Water, then no. We painted the base material and let it dry completely before pouring the Realistic Water. If you are asking if we mixed the Pigments with plain water before painting, then no. The pigment was applied full-strength in the middle of the water area, then thinned with water along the shoreline to lighten the color. Lighter pigment color depicts shallow water along the shoreline. Hope this helps!
for using this stuff on foam, how would you recommend sealing the area to be watered to keep it from being absorbed?
Hello KittyCakes...Yes, Realistic Water is pretty sweet! If you do not live near a hobby shop and have to purchase it online...you need to look again...our search found it for almost half of what you found it for! :-)
WOW! You are a genious! I love your fake water and landscapes! You made me want to build my own dreamy Disneyland miniature, from this ideas :-)
Awesome thank you for sharing
We are sorry that you had issues with our Realistic Water. Our Realistic Water product cannot be poured directly on Styrofoam as you discovered. It is unfortunate someone directed you that way. The Realistic Water has instructions on the bottle that states: Before pouring Realistic Water, seal water cavity with Plaster Cloth™ (C1203) to prevent seepage. If desired, brush on a layer of Lightweight Hydrocal®* (C1201) to seal further. Please feel free to contact us with any questions.
The product is called Realistic Water (C1211).
Just starting a new layout in N scale - looking forward to trying this stuff. Been wanting to work with it for a while but my last layout was already finished before I discovered the product. Excited!

the river looked awsome great job mate
Water effects such as waves, whirlpools, waterfalls, etc., are created using our Water Effects product, Item C1212. Water features themselves such as ponds, rivers and lakes are created using our Realistic Water product, Item C1211. Hope this helps!
This was nice and easy, just the way I like it.
do you have any product or technique to make water flow slowly/increasing its density to make flowing waterfalls look more realistic?
@ModelSceneryExpert Thanks for that. Incidentally, what's the difference between PVA and Scenic Glue?
Matt, would earth colour undercoat work for a shallow pool? Also, am I able to add talus and debris and then pour the realistic water over it without that affecting the look?
I really like the river. 👍
Ok thanks a lot. Do you have any other methods that can still create the water effect?
Is there a specific technique to get the tapering done as per the river and pond. Did you dilute the paint or just use less of it in these areas?
is it possible make this water look murky brown and not so clear? do i gotta mix stuff into it?
Thanks! Looking to add the rapids in Crystal Creek, which feeds the Scioto River, which feeds the Ohio!
Thanks from Turkey :) Bursa Technical University - Urban Planning
Hi there, I'm wondering what product do you use for the grass (base grass) as seen here? I dont understand the turfs and grass, are static grass used? Any help is appricated!!
Ok thanks a lot. Very helpful information before I try it with my fish. Maybe I will try this clear silicone or blue sand. The only thing I hate about silicone is that it takes weeks to dry. Thanks though.
this video was very helpful. i will be trying this product on a gundam model. hopefully it comes out good

Thank you share this water landscaping.
This looks amazing
Two questions with the realistic water product - 1. I've tried using it (in thin layers) to fill up my water tank models but it seems to keep evaporating (i.e. the 'water' level keeps decreasing, but it's not leaking out anywhere). 2. On another layout I've got a river that extends to the edge, where I need it to be about half an inch thick; how do I stop the RW from dribbling out? Should I build a clear wall with PVA or Water Effects? Perspex isn't an option in this case.
what glue do you suggest to use around the pond?
I could use this for my project! :D Thanks for uploading!! :D
hey guys I just bought one of your woodland scenic realistic water kits and the water is almost solid in the container I can't just pour it out is it ruined waste of money or is there a way to liquefy it like using heat or water? What can I do?
Is it possible to use your E-Z water product in your rock moulds? I know they're not designed for this, but I'm trying to build a realistic glacier and thought this might be an option.
wat is the thing u use to make the water glassy or shining?
Any suggestions for what to do when Realistic water is congealed in container. I can’t pour it sadly. It is a new container and wondering if I can melt it? Or add water?
I've been using your Realistic Water for a couple weeks to make a large scenery piece that involves a large/deep river (3/4" deep). So far everything has been going good but the last layer I put on has cured and still appears slightly foggy. I am aware of the 1/8" layer thickness and have been following the directions on the back of the bottle. 1) What could have caused this to happen? 2) Is the a way for me to remove this last layer without permanently damaging the previous layers?
What are the paints used to paint the pond & river bottom? Can I add paint to the water to make it cloudy( like a muddy pond)?
did you mix the liquid pigment with water?
Brilliant, really, really clever.
what is the material do we use to give water effect?
Yeah that makes me happy ,good work!
If I wanted to make fish bowl with a suspended fish in it(a real fish bowl) would you recommend it? Would I have to layer it or just put it in all at once? If not this product, what would you recommend doing?
These examples of scenery are beautiful. Really inspiring paints jobs.
will realistic water set alright on modelling clay that dips down and is painted?
so nice! I wish I could get these proper materials to make my diorama! is there any alternative to make a realistic looking water? I've made a river by using UHU (transparent)glue I'm in Pakistan.
I love these, I've been using it to build fountains in my model city. I just wish you sold them in smaller sizes.

ya think this might be helpful if you'd say what type/kind of base that was used for this pond? i was told to use styrafoam. in doing so(which the $23.00 bottle of water(rosin) cost, it completely bled through the foam which i had used for the pond. all liquid was lost. possibly put some instructions on the damn bottle !!
I just did a harbor scene... and 12+ hours after putting on the second layer the entire water area started cracking. Some areas have many tiny cracks and others have only a few very large cracks (perhaps 3mm wide). Any idea why this happened? I've run out of the "Realistic Water"... would pouring more into the crack areas have a chance of fixing them?
The pigment is essentially strong acryllic paint. And is your plaster cloth essentially just the same as plaster of paris except that it's more malleable
At 2:18 you used a clear disk to make the ripples with the realistic water. What is the disk?
Do the Color liquid color pigments from wooden scenics dry like a flat paint or does it dry like real dirt plz reply
I followed instructions out of another Woodlands scenics book; and painted over my paper mache black, with an earth tone around the edges of my lake. do I need to put down a water undercoat before i throw down the realistic water? or will the realistic water be okay on top of the black paint?. I am a little hesitant to put down the realistc water because I feel like it will just make a black shiny lake as opposed to the dark blue I am going for. Thought?
i can only get the realistic water in yellow bottles is it the same as the blue bottle
If a figure is diving into a pool or lake, do you know how to make the splash effect that is above the water? Any tricks? Tips?
So Sorry ColCaffran - accidently posted comment instead of reply - EZ Water is heated and then poured. Rock Molds are rubber-like and the heat would damage the mold.
I make polymer clay creations. I was wondering if I use the realistic water, would it effect the polymer clay at all? Like the paint I use on it or the clay itself, will it bleed? I wanted to make a little girl playing in a pond, and maybe have a dog sitting in a tub. Maybe fill a tub thats 2ins tall and wide. Will that take long to dry?
what would happen if i put the realistic water effect a little bit deep would it not work??
Hello Matt, i am considering purchasing some of the products shown in this video. However, i would be using these for a project due a week from tomorrow. Is there any way you can ensure that if i order them that they will arrive in time? Can i place some sort of a rush order?
Waitin for the Man in the Brown Truck to deliver my Water Kit! I am so excited that I can;t stand myself right now!! I have been wanting to give this a try for quite a while and today is the day!! He better hurry up or I am going to have to go and track him down so I can get my package sooner than later!! This video and a couple others have eased any fears that I had after reading reviews! I am thinking that the naysayers probably did not watch your easy to follow videos before literally "testing the waters"! LOL Pun intended! Thanks for the hand holding!

can a painted plastic model be dipped in it and then let it dry witht he model still in place? Like say for a flying boat for a good diorama?
Hi I am trying to find some WATER UNDERCOAT. Can you tell me what shell I use?
Use Earth Colors™ Liquid Pigment (C1216-C1223) to tint Realistic Water™, and choosing colors that best replicate the murky color you are wanting. Pour Realistic Water into a disposable cup and mix in coloring agent very slowly to avoid bubbles. If bubbles occur, cover and let set until they disperse (approximately 2 hours). It is advisable to do a small test area to verify desired color.
Were do you get realistic water and water affects?
Mats back! :)
Very sorry to hear there was a problem with your Realistic Water. If you would contact our Customer Service/ Sales Department, 573-346-5555, they will be more than happy to assist you.
could you give any tips on useing EZ water?
Actually, our Earth Colors are pigments, not paint, but you are correct in that they are 100% acrylic, with no additives. Some acrylic paints include vinyl-like binders which will adversely affect Realistic Water. Plaster Cloth is infused with our Lightweight Hydrocal, which is a plaster product, but lighter in weight than plaster of Paris. We have never tested Realistic Water with a clay product, so can't give you any indication if it will react adversely or not.
Btw why when after 24 hours the water effect actually shrinks? How to prevent the curving or shrinkage? Pls help
would the realistic water work in an inch deep river?
Do you know if Games Workshop high quality Acrylic paints have Resin/Vinyl binders?
That's awesome, much easier than the pellets I had to melt as a kid.
Thanks! Very helpful :) xx
Do you know any tricks for incoming waves on a lake?
what was the mold you used to make all of them

Hi guys I am a little stuck. I bought your waterfall kit sometime back and I have run out of the paper base which comes in the kit. What type of paper should I use as a replacement? Thanks.
@ModelSceneryExpert

We think you are referring to the newsprint paper that is included in the kit. If this is the case, no problem...you can use regular newspaper or even copy paper for that matter. Both should work just fine! Thanks, and Happy Modeling!

I have a quick question that I just want to be sure about; I know that realistic water can't seem to get along with PVA glue. Does MH Ready patch or similar products have any problem with it? Thanks.
@ModelSceneryExpert

Yes, you are correct that you should not use PVA glue with Realistic Water. We are not familiar with the products you mentioned, so we are not able to offer an opinion on how the Realistic Water would perform with those products.
Hi. Is this thing toxic? I wan't to make a river that runs across my aquarium. When it dries, is it non toxic? Thank you.
