Please get them steps/ stairs, as they are prone to have back problems. My Dachshund had to get IVDD surgery 😫 learned hard way! $9K later..Also, they should have water in their bowls all day not just after eating...

I think everyone is different, I won’t leave the water accessible for them unless I’m gonna take them out after drinking water to avoid accidents in the house. What works for some people do not works for everybody. Just saying

I lost my three yr old to ivdd. Only stairs since a new puppy. Surgery failed. I was a sad sad lady for a long long time. I adopted a beagle wiener mix with a long long back. He also at age 5 has never jumped. I want another dachshund but seeing Charleston lose his life in agony is holding me back.

I was lucky with that. My Dachshund Donnie was overweight, but it was just a sprain luckily. Anyway he went on a diet and with his shiny coat and slim physique, he's a fine figure of health now at 2 and a half. I live on the 3rd floor in some flats, Donnie is a standard and flies up them every day, but I do try to slow him down.

I had a dachshund and trust me, the medical costs for the spinal/nerve issues is substantial. Like others have pointed out, you need to get ramps and train them not to jump on/off things. They're genetically prone to the spinal issues (can't recall the specific issue mine had) but you can help fend them off by not allowing them to jump around.

I'm the same. Got my first Standard size Black and tan 2 and a half years ago. I may be biased, but he's the cutest dog in the world. Well in the British Isles anyway. 😁 I lost my mum n dad last year and the Dogs have literally kept me going and maybe even kept me alive. I'd never leave Donnie and now my mum n dads Terrier Murphy. I prefer dogs to people haha.

We have a pair of mini Ds that are the twins of yours, the black one is a male, Oscar and Dixie. We've had them since each was 3 months, they're 17 now. The breed is prone to back problems so be careful about letting them jump off furniture, our female had to have back surgery and that was over two thousand...females are especially prone to back issues.

Your mini Doxie's are adorable! Mine & my husband's mini Doxie, Murphy (that's him from a few years ago in my profile pic), just turned 8 last month. Sadly, about 9 months ago he was dx'd with terminal cancer (anal sac adenocarcinoma, which we've since found out is a common cancer for Doxies). But, Murphy is definitely beating the odds so far, as our vet gave him 3-6 months when she initially found the tumor (which was the size of a golf ball) & like I said, that was 9 months ago!! He's on a daily pain medication & his little bum looks awful with the bulging tumor (which is now larger than a tennis ball), but other than his bum being a little tender, he's acting as if he's fine, which is amazing! We've been spoiling him in every way possible & just loving on him as if every day is his last.

Fun fact: it's actually law in the UK that all dogs in cars must be restrained. I've seen some owners with metal crates in the boot (which I disagree with) but it's significantly more common to have a cloth crate with a dog seatbelt built in buckled to the human seats

Hi, I've just subscribed. I'm Danny from Burnley, Lancashire, UK. I've always had Mixed breed rescue dogs, but a few years ago (around two and a half) someone smashed into my motorbike, so with my insurance money, I bought a Dachshund, after a lot of searching and reading up on the bread. I bought a standard black and tan and he's called "Donnie". I'm addicted to Dachshund's now. Donnie is the most intelligent, funny, but very needy, which is kind of cute until he's whining for a stroke when you've been stroking him for the last hour 😁. My girlfriend wants more, but I'm just going to give Donnie another year, then get another. I'd of got a pair if I'd of known the breed earlier. However my mum and dad passed away last year (2022 Shittiest year ever) and I've adopted my mum and dad's 15 year old Jack Russell Terrier (Murphy). It's give Murphy a new lease of life. They're best buddies already. They sleep together, build tunnels together on the bed, Donnie even gets biscuits out of his own bowl and passes them Murphy, it's proper cute 😁. Here's a video of Donnie on Morcambe Beach, Lancashire, North West England. I'm gunna start my own channel just for the dogs I think. Any suggestions on how to start a channel that people actually watch? I've got my channel, but it's just super weird shit me and my partner got up to in Lockdown. Nothing rude 😁 Just super weird and random. kzread.info/dash/bejne/X4yHko-JYKq5ltY.html

@@OIiviaLeigh Oh, okay. I wasn't sure, I just know that a harness is better for small breeds that are prone to neck, spinal and nerve issues as they get older. it’s definitely important to teach them they don’t need to go out as often as they want. if they’re ever in a situation where they can’t go outside for a while, i’m confident they won’t have any accidents because they’re bladders are trained not to be emptied every hour!

I have had 12 doxies. Omg you are doing so many things wrong. I have rescued and have have 4 now. One has an autoimmune disease but I can afford her meds so she is doing well and is 13 yrs old. The back and patella surgeries were frequent with her. Put the dogs in a crate when in the car!!!!! I am STUNNED they don’t have water available at all times. I assume this is for your convenience so you don’t have to take them out. A collar is not a good idea. Get a harness. Go online and read about how to care for dachshunds.
