This tutorial is a follow-up to our "sad greenscreen" tutorial from a few months ago. We will cover how to track your footage with a planar tracker inside Mocha. Afterwards we will go through some simple techniques to make your footage look as if it's from a tv. Finally we will cover how to use our free CRT TV diode alphas.

    Great tutorial. The footage from "Daddy Issues" first caught my eye - such a great song and video. I'll be able to use some of these tips soon, so thank you.

    I did this with a panning shot. I literally created a mask in AE and tracked it using track mask. Worked flawessly.

    Nice tips but for mocha workflow you jumped some CRITICAL points, like how to apply tracking data, also the necessity the precomp (footage or photo) to fit the original comp before applying effect etc... Also how your footage becomes a bit offset since your surface area in mocha was exactly at the edges of your tv ? .... for a new user it is impossible to watch it.

    Hey thanks for the comment! You're right. This video was supposed to be a follow-up to an earlier screen-replacement tutorial in which we covered most of these points. However, it fails to convey all the necessary information to smoothly follow along. Working on a new one that should get it right this time! :)

    My apologies for having cut that out in this video hahah! Inside of the Boris Mocha panel you have to first hit "save" on the top left corner (a button with an arrow pointing down). Then the mask you've made is locked. Inside the Mocha "effect" in your Effects panel there is a dropdown for "Matte". Click on "Create AE Masks". It will create the mask directly onto that layer. I'd recommend you check out this video from Boris FX so you can see exactly what options there are :) kzread.info/dash/bejne/qYmo169_qabHec4.html Hope this helps! - Leo

  • @BlauwFilms

    @BlauwFilms

    @@ari-vz8kj yeahh a macbook should be strong enough to do this but you might want to do it in sections. Making in between exports for different layers in Pro Res 4444 (or 422) can also help a lot. Things like heavy effects stacks, once you’re happy with it, give it an export and reimport that to work with further.

    How do you apply the mocha data to a null? Like how do you even export data from mocha ?

  • @BlauwFilms

    @BlauwFilms

    Жыл бұрын

    Hey, sorry I skipped over a few things in this tutorial. Once you've saved your track inside of your Mocha window, you can close Mocha. Then with your footage selected you should see the "Mocha"-effect in your Effect Controls panel. There select Create Track Data first, select your track and hit OK. Then change the export options to what you want: Transform data is simple Position, Scale, Rotation data (use this for any 2D track). Corner Pin is for anything with 2.5D perspective. Then click on the dropdown menu for Layer Export To and select your Null. Click Apply Export. And that's it! :) You now have a Null object with your tracking data applied. If you select your Null and hit "U", it will reveal all the keyframes that have been added to it. From here on you can use your Null in any way you want. If you are struggling with Mocha I'd highly recommend you check out the Boris FX Learn channel on KZread. They really are the masters of their own software :) kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZneFprSSgNape7A.html Hope this helps! Cheers, Leo

    @@BlauwFilms Thank you! At 4:41, how do you add a point to a spline you've already made? I'm struggling to find an answer to this. And when you say 2.5D perspective, do you consider a old tv to have this because of the curving?

  • @BlauwFilms

    @BlauwFilms

    Жыл бұрын

    @@worldwideoffline6423 Good one! If you go to tools up top of Mocha there is a Black Cursor (Selection Tool) and a White Cursor (Add Point Tool). If you have your Spline selected, click on the white cursor and click on where you want to add a point. That's it! :) When it comes to 2.5D perspective I'm mainly talking about movement in the shot. The bulging of the glass/refraction of the glass is something I'd do in compositing by adding distort effects to your clip. Or! If you really have the time (this will be for a future tutorial) you can motion track the clip in 3D and apply your clip to a 3D-model of a TV behind the glass. Then you'll have it all naturally in your clip.
