Realistic Canadian Blackspruce trees made easy

Detailed guide DIY how-to model very realistic spruce trees easy in H0-scale for model railroad, diorama, RPG or table top fantasy. This guide applies specificly to the Canadian "Black Spruce" and "Norwegian Spruce" tree, which both are members of the conifer family of trees, but has a specific look. The latin name for the Norwegian spruce is 'Picea Abies'. These type of trees grows commonly in the northen hemisphere (Canada, Northen Europe, Finland, Russia, Ukrain etc..)
These spruce trees are commonly also called Evergreens, Conifers, Fir trees, but those do actually differ significantly in look compared to this tree.

    Wonderful. Of all the spruce trees I've seen I think these have the best effort-to-result ratio. They seem like something it would be possible to make a few dozen of without wanting to die by the time you're halfway through.

    Well, Martin, I gave it a go and built three cypress trees. All the florist wire branches were pointed upwards. Then after the static fibres application I directed the blow-dryer from bottom to top. Didn't have any dark green fine turf to put on, so I used a WS earth blend, followed by a sprinkling of medium size dark green ground foam. This gives an illusion of old growth underneath and is rather realistic. The second two trees are made with just the one layer of fine sized earth blend and then sprayed with dark green. I used a spray can of dark green (RAL 6002). The effect is the same, however the texture is finer and airier. To conclude all three trees were sprayed with a matt acrylic, again from a can. So thank you for a great (and flexible!) idea and your lovely and clear tutorial. All the best, from Slovenia. And yes I am smiling.

    I’ve noticed all you guys are having some sort of competition, to me anyway, with building trees like those. I’ve seen several new methods I’ve never seen. I had given first place to another guy but with this, Mark has moved into first place for most realistic trees. Great job buddy!!

    Thank you! There are more things you can do with this method and get ever further in the direction of perfection. 1) Taper the top piece. Makes drilling harder, but pays off in realism. 2) Add more than one layer with static grass. Makes the foliage more dense. 3) Add a layer of 2mm static grass over all before adding the turf 4) Sprinkle coffie grounds over the glue covered trunk before spraying it brown. 5) Add moss on the trunk north side using WS Burnt Grass. Good luck! 👍❤️

  • @marklinofsweden

    @marklinofsweden

    5 жыл бұрын

    Hi Di, The thickness of the wooden stick can be 3 or 4mm. I´m using Woodland Scenics "Green Blend" in the video, but I wouldn´t recommend that. This because it contains yellow particles like flowers and it is not all right. Look for a completly green turf. Check out noch.de

  • @marklinofsweden

    Nilsminbae Precis! Super-enkelt! Antingen styr man växlarna med ställpult som visas på hemsidan, eller så kopplar man den gula och de blå kablarna till en m83 dekoder. Då ändrar du växlarna med en Mobile station eller Central station.

    Great tutorial. Is that based on this video kzread.info/dash/bejne/YoaVsbttY7eqcaQ.html ? I tried in the past to make one tree in O scale, but I wasn't very happy with the result. The hair dryer trick is excellent, I will use it next time. Your trees look better, even if I'm not sure that it scale up nicely to 1/43.5 What is the type of turf used? By the way, I'm using a similar steel wire, but the one I found in Germany is also available already blackened. It is less visible than steel color if some part isn't fully painted.
