(Realistic) 14 Hour Study With Me || 2019
I would like to once again point out that this video was not made to actively promote study sessions as long as the one that I did today. Most days, I do not do anywhere near as much studying as I did today. As I mentioned in the video, it's just that I had a lot of things which I needed to do to get ahead with revision and feel more on top of everything. Over the years, I have spent time practising my concentration techniques so that I am able to sit down and work effectively for such long periods of time (so for example, if I had tried this when I was in Year 10, I know that I would have been too exhausted to continue after a while).
I also wanted to make a point of how much active, concentrated revision I actually did during these fourteen hours so I used a timer to take a look. I would stop it whenever I found I needed to look for something, have a quick conversation or put something away. I was quite surprised by what I found :)
Thank you again for watching! I hope that this gives you a boost of studying motivation!
Stay tuned for the end of the video to see my timetable / to do list for today!

I love how you didn't forget to eat your meals, get fresh air and do some exercise during your study day. And the cute card for your grandad made me smile, you're adorable 🌸 you're so inspiring!
To anybody thinking "I'm doing fine on my x hours a day, no thanks!"- Good, I'm happy for you too! Study smart, congrats on your grades, you earned and deserve them just as much as Ruby, genuinely good for you. Personally, I wish I could go back and start school over with Ruby's motivation and work ethic though. I made perfect grades all the way through high school and college and a master's degree, but I did it by cramming the night before every exam, reading entire books the day before paper deadlines and taking quizzes, developing unhealthy habits like staying up for 2 or 3 days with no sleep and drinking gross amounts of energy drinks...and on reflection, I'm pleased that I had such good marks all the way through school but I don't think I ever really did any work that I was proud of. I've never been pleased looking back on a paper I wrote or a project I planned. All I've ever felt at the end of a course/exam/presentation is relief that it's over. I think there are many years of my schooling where I didn't retain much at all. I ran myself ragged to get the grades I wanted but I didn't get anything out of the classes. There are different ways of achieving your goals and finding success and happiness. Maybe in your course of study this wouldn't make sense at all and instead you'd be in a practice room playing scales for this whole time or on your bed practicing drawing cheekbones for hours on end. Or maybe your degree program is just a means to an end and you just want to skate by and get the diploma so you can move on with your career, there is no shame in that either. But good for Ruby for finding what she loves to do and embracing it, and inspiring others along the way!

What did you study? Must be something easy, no way you got top grades in STEM by cramming the night before. So you actually have nothing much to be proud of regardless of the way you obtained your useless degree with top grades. ( This is no hate but the mere truth)

@@katybyrd8674 How did you manage that. I can't believe this. Chemistry in itself is EXTREMELY demanding (have several friends here in Germany that study it). To pair it with 2 minors seems impossible to me...maybe things are different in the US, but here the lectures and labs alone start at 8 am and end between 3-4 pm. Don't know how you managed that.

Ruby, all I can say is your so inspiring. I mean it from the bottom of my heart. Your videos have made me get up in the morning (literally) your 6am morning routine inspired me to turn my life around. I went from being unproductive and unorganised to being productive and organised. If I didn’t stumble across your channel 2 years ago, I wouldn’t be who I am today. You’ve made me realise what I want to really want to be when I’m older. (A solicitor) thank you so much for helping me construct who I am. Thank you Ruby. Erin x
Ruby:studies 14 hours Me: studies 30 mins ...and gets tired
How do you feel like studying again after you take a break? I end up taking very long breaks. Please suggest me something
@shystudyspy
5 жыл бұрын
Nayan Shakya Time your breaks. Have a timer on your phone running and when it runs out, you HAVE to go back to studying. Second, I’m sure there are some things you do in your break that make it harder to stop your break. For example, when I start watching KZread in my break, I find it extremely difficult to close the app and go back to studying. Anything internet-related really, whether that be Pinterest, Instagram, KZread, Facebook... So I don’t allow myself social media while I’m on a study break. Only things that I know I can stop, like reading a book, having a snack or drawing. Also household stuff, like cleaning the kitchen or doing laundry. That together with a timed break does the trick for me.
Is any 14 hours study with me realistic though???
@Emily-xr6ny
5 жыл бұрын
no. Ruby enjoys studying so it’s her choice but you don’t need to do this much, it’s not necessary. Plus assuming you’re getting 8 hours of sleep that means you’re only getting 2 hours of non studying which is mostly going to be used up as small breaks throughout.

MinaLee Marlow isn’t it proven that most people work best in short bursts in terms of memory and productivity? that doesn’t matter much for ruby because i have a feeling studying is both a hobby she enjoys and a necessity as opposed to a lot of people who put in these hours and make themselves miserable

It’s more likely to burn you out that help you imo. If she herself says she doesn’t do it every day then surely it’s not realistic? Despite the tiny disclaimer that flashed up, people are still going to force themselves through this to be “productive” or “as productive as ruby”

Hi Ruby. Sorry for my bad english, but I have to say this: Please do some wrist exercises regularly. Some of my roommates who are in their final years of their degree suffers a lot of pain in their wrist/hands because they have use the computer a lot, principally. I'm not an expert in the subjet, but my roomies who are studying physical/occupational therapy have told us that this could derivate even in cubital tunnel syndrome and attrofiate your hands ( please if someone have more precise information, no doubt in correcting me). I mention this because I've seen you do the most of your work in the computer, just for precaution ;) Great video, as always c:

and once again, here we are. several hours of studying to do, multiple tests tomorrow. but alas, i am instead choosing to watch ruby study and be more productive than i ever will be.
These videos are my favorite, this is so inspiring to me. It gives me a lot of motivation because I think if she can study more than ten hours I will be able to do another hour.. then they become two hours and maybe become three. So thank you very much don't listen to haters p.s. Sorry for my english, school has just started and I'm out training with regard to writing in English
That timer was so satisfying!
You've helped me find my motivation again, and I'm enjoying studying like I used too! For the last year and a half, I've procrastinated and not worked like I would have liked to, so I've been really disappointed with myself. But now, thankfully a few months before my A levels, I've managed to get motivated and enjoy learning and doing homework again 😊 Also, I love the high angle, did you balance your tripod on the curtain rail? Anyway, I love your videos 💕

Lovely video, as usual. Thanks for the inspiration, Ruby!!!!
Unfortunately I can't study so many hours, I have a lot of myopia and astigmatism, my eyes get very very tired if I read or look at a screen for too much time. I need a 10' pause each hour and either close my eyes or go outside and see the horizon. But my maximum is 9 hours of studying, I tried more... but my eyesight didn't let me. I admire how much you can study Ruby and I wish I could do as much. Have you suffered any side effects from studying this much? If so did you find any tips for preventing them? Thanks ❤️

i have exactly the same issue : myopia and astigmatism . it started when i arrived in college. before that i used to be able to study like Ruby, but not anymore, sadly. there are lots of exercices for your eyes (to prevent them from degrading more)but especially looking far away is good for myopia. short naps helped me a lot too : like even closing your eyes for 20 minutes after dinner helped and kind of like "reset" my limit of eye focus. (but it s just my experience) .
