Real World Falken Wildpeak A/T Trail Review

Фильм және анимация

A 1400 mile review of the new Falken A/T Wildpeak Trail. This is the same tire used on the new Toyota Rav4 TRD. It's also really the only crossover/small SUV all terrain tire on the market. I give you my honest opinions and impressions here.
You can also read more from Falken here: www.falkentire.com/tires/ligh...
I purchased these tires from SimpleTire.com and had them installed by Discount Tire. I would have purchased them from Discount Tire, but they were unavailable at the time.

Thank you for the video, this is exactly what I was looking for. I own a 2007 subaru outback sedan 3.0 h6 . And I looked for months and found these tires and then this video honestly really helped me decide to purchase them. Thank you, and they are an amazing A/T tire for subaru's. You showed exactly what I needed to see from the performance of the tire while driving. Again Thank you

I've got an 05 Toyota Sienna AWD. I was going to get a larger tire because I couldn't find an A/T tire in my size, but then I came across these. Decently priced as well. I think I'm going to go for it as a loss in mpg isn't a big deal to me. Thanks for the review!

What sold me on these tires is how calm he is talking about them while driving the car as if the road was wet by rain. That inspires confidence. I just installed toyo open country at3’s on my crosstrek 2 weeks ago. On a crosstrek it had pitch sound starting around 25. As much as I wanted to keep them I couldn’t get over the hum they made. I traded them in today for the falken wp trails and immediately notice the hum was not there. I’m glad you made this video and happy with the swap. Also the tire shop gave me a refund difference as these are cheaper than the toyos. Thanks man.

Coincidentally found your video. But great I did, cause I thought about getting either the KO 2s or the Wildpeaks for my 2019 Crosstrek. For the Falken I mostly found some reviews when they were mounted on trucks. Really just what I was looking for. We get a lot of snow here, and I heard they might be better in snow than the KO 2s. Your video helped me with the decision. Thx 👍

I'm planning to purchase a Rav4 Prime PHEV (as soon as they're more readily available) and I will definitely swap out the factory tires for a set of these. Based on my research, this is a great year-round tire for the ever changing conditions here in Ohio. I will be camping off road fairly regularly, so this seems like the perfect tire for my needs. Most people don't seem to be losing quite as much in fuel economy as you are, but that is a very important factor to me since I drive 25,000 mi per year.

Great review--really appreciate it! Like you said in your video, it is very difficult to find reviews on A/T tires that are not put out by the manufacturers. Am thinking of getting a Forester Sport or Limited and was looking around to see what kind of 18 inch A/T options are out there. Other than the gas mileage hit, which is admittedly a bummer, these seem like a great all around A/T tire. Thanks again!

Love these tires. Bought them for my 2018 Nissan Rogue SV a week before the heavy snow storm in the northeast (NY). These tires held perfectly in the snow, both on highway and back roads. I truly believe these to be the perfect cross between all season and winter tires. best of all a 65K factory warrantee. Fair warning, these tires, though the same size as the original (225/65/17) turns out to be about an inch or so larger. They still fit perfectly with no rubbing. Also worth mentioning, I agree, no extra road noise compared to my original tires and yea, I seem to have lost about 1mpg compared to original stock tires.

You lost mpg also during the winter. Everyone does in winter climates don't forget. Was looking at the toyos too as mentioned below. How’s the ride quality? Do they feel any more compliant than the stock tires? This video was well done. People tend to be annoying in these vids. You were easy to listen to and made some real world points. Just picked up a Crosstrek and want a better than oem tire but that I can use all year long here in PA. Not nearly as much snow as Colorado but we do in fact get snow where the awd is much appreciated

Thanks for the kind words! Drive quality was a little smoother but I’ve seen that with most new tires. They handle great on the day to day. The sting geolanders seemed hard to me I the road. These were much better. You’ll love them, especially when you get some PA snows and that ice the cones with it :)

@@thehobbyistoriginal cool! I think a lot of it has to do with the 18” wheels. I’m almost considering picking up some stock take offs from a lower model to have more sidewall. Lo pros tend to inherently have a harsher ride. My wife runs the wrangler SRA on her jeep. They’re exceptional for not technically even being an “all terrain”. Off roads well. Pushed snow with her bumper when we got 2 feet one year. Was disappointed they don’t make them in a 225/55/18 or I’d run them.

Consider this, when you go from warn tires to new tires you have exactly what you stated in the video....more rubber between you and the road. what this can do is cause your trip meter to read less millage than the old set simply because they are overall taller by a small amount. that small amount can equal a couple lost mpg's on your trip meter.

If you drop 8/32s which is a lot, you are going to about 1% in terms of miles per hour (28" tire versus 27.75" tire. .25/28 = 0.9%). He is losing 10%. Its the tire pattern, not the tread size

If you bought them in the winter, then that's not an accurate representation of your fuel economy. If it's cold, particularly with Subarus boxer engine, you lose a few MPG. I lose about 4 MPG on average in my forester during the colder months. When it's warmer I can easily get 30+ MPG.

  • @JonLabbe

What in the world. The Toyota RAV4 TRD new tires, Falken WILDPEAK A/T Trail, have a much lower Treadwear rating and Traction rating vs. the retail version of the tire. We are talking close to half the Treadwear. Toyota version: Treadwear 360 / Traction B Retail Falken version (as stated by 3rd party tire dealer websites): Treadwear 680/ Traction A. This is nuts. I would fear the Toyota OEM version won't come even close to a 3 year lease running approximately 13,500 miles per year. Don't want to replace tires on a lease. Never have had to on vehicles with tires in the 600+ Treadwear rating in the past. Thoughts?

Have hated my decision since day 1. These Falkens underperform in every category compared to the TerrainContacts.
