Real VS Fake OUD WOOD: Why I'm NOT Buying Fragrances on eBay Anymore (Unless it's Verified)

As the title implies, I accidentally purchased a counterfeit fragrance on eBay. This video is to improve awareness of fakes and how to hopefully spot one. Many signs are evident in the lack of quality in the packaging although surprisingly I can see how the scent could fool someone, especially if they have never smelled the authentic before. It actually did fool me at first until I realized it lasted less than an hour and I did not enjoy the fragrance nearly as much, although I do smell some similarities in the woodsy notes. The real Oud Wood has an amazing scent and presentation which I hope is evident in this video.

Why does eBay continue to have these kinds of fraudulent sellers on its site? eBay has been going for a number of years now, you would think they would be more knowledgeable about fraud!
Today I got scammed by a seller on the Mercari site for a 100 ml bottle of Oud Wood. Now I freakin have to go through a song and dance just to get my money back. When looking online to do my comparison of real to fake, every check was ticked on how fake my bottle was. Sooooo mad!!

I feel for you. I'll keep that site in mind. There are plenty of good sample and discount sites I got from the Perfume Guy and I've had good success with Maxaroma, Fragrancenet, scentsplit, aedes. Good luck, I hope you get your money back!

Thank you for the video Jason. I bought 50 ml TF Oud Wood. Packaging looks fine but the smell doesn't stay longer than two hours. I suspect somehow it's also fake. Can you help with that too ?

The smell on mine was slightly off. This scent doesn't have very long lasting power so if you're only using 1 or 2 sprays it could be real. If you bought from a reputable vendor and it smells like the fragrance then I'd say ya this one is known to be lacking in longevity. I spray extra on my clothes to make it last longer.
Happened to me too. The guy had great reviews. Was on the platform a long time … but i just ran in to this video and i noticed that the sprayer was different. The fake had a dior like pressurized sprayer

Another big tell is how it comes out of the atomizer. The atomizer on a real bottle will give you just a little spittle. If it blows out like Snoop Dog hitting a blunt, then it's definitely a fake.
I gave up on Ebay and Paypal ten years ago after being burned multiple times. I don't buy ANYTHING online. I get everything I want locally even if it means I have to go with alternatives, and I've been just fine.
You just helped me realize I e been ripped of by $600. I bout 3 of these 3.2oz oud wood tobacco oud and lost cherry off ebay but it's wayy to late to do anything

Wow, really sorry to hear that, at least it won't happen again now. I always have good experiences with Max Aroma and they often have tom ford discounts. I will never purchase from ebay again unless it's a small sample I can't find elsewhere

Has similar scent profile but didn't smell good in my opinion. I won't wear it even though it was returned to me after getting my refund. Performance of the real oud wood is at least 4-8 hours of peak scent and this didn't even last 2 hours at most
Why would you take a chance and even buy it from a discounter rather than Macy's? When Macy's has their 15% off sales, you can often get another 15% off from a cashback site. The net price would be about $40 to $50 more than a discounter, but at least you have peace of mind that you're buying from an authorized seller of Tom Ford.

Funny how ebay thinks it cool, just cuz they refund. Selling fakes is a crime unless you're a billionaire.
I’ve just bought one from eBay 👀 I have a genuine to compare it to when it arrives. Is it easy to get money back?

It wasn't really that easy. They denied me then I had to make an appeal. I returned it and it ended up coming back to me several months later even though I'd gotten my money back. Mine was from Russia so that may be why it never went back.

Did the seller put a photo of the real one on the listing or was it this one you’re looking at? This one looks like a fake for sure, I wouldn’t have bought it

Hard lesson to learn, but NEVER buy high-end normally pricey fragrances from anywhere other than known and respected legitimate sellers if buying online. There are several good videos on KZread showing how to spot fake Tom Ford and Le Labo products. The large online fragrance sellers all guarantee 100% authentic products.

Yeah send it back as a fake, leave the seller negative feedback. Everyone wins apart from the scammer.
