The rap is in tagalog. Here is the lyrics Mga galamay na malulupit ng mga Propetang pilit kong kinakasa Dala ko na ang mga kargada Papatunayan na hindi ka na makagalaw sa mga salita Hindi mo na matatagalan ang mga babala, ito ang simula Yo! Ha! Rough english translation is: From the hands of the prophets, I give you words that will leave you paralyzed and speechless, warning I could not contain so here is the start yo! ha!, like a pain that hurts I get back at my enemies, leaving their forehead wrinkled wondering what happened. Now do you understand the mistakes of going against me, my rap and lyrics you cannot handle, I am throwing you the words that will leave you numb and paralyzed, amazed at the most strong, fierce, feared and vicious..

Yes, that was Hua Chenyu! He was also one of the contestants in Singer 2018 (China) along with KZ Tandingan and Jessie J. KZ is obviously not a belter; her highest is the lowest note in a belting range (according to Tara Simon). This was due to a medical condition in her teenage years. To compensate with the ability that she lost, she developed ways to continue singing and tries to make the most of what she has -- she arranges all her songs/covers, raps, scats, and makes covers her own. You should check out KZ's rendition of "Say Something." In that particular episode of Singer 2018, Huahua said that was the best performance. Then, one of the guys asked him, "Of the night?" and he replied, "No, of the entire show."

This version actually makes me concentrate more on what the song is about lol. I heard KZ arranges these songs herself, so i'm interested in knowing what skills (maybe not necessary a vocal skill) make one good at arranging music? Do you need to have more background on music theory, etc.? Because I'm not sure about KZ's background, but I do know that majoring in music is not very common in the Philippines. There are few universities that even have a college for music. So it seems like something she's picked up from experimentation, especially as I saw in her audition years ago that she was really trying to find her own style. Like, there are really good singers that have embodied the styles of the artists that they grew up listening to - they would say "it's my dream to be like ______," but KZ said "I want to have a unique style."
@ramseyvoicestudio
3 жыл бұрын
I'm sure study of music would be helpful, but other practices will be useful, from just listening to music to being around other musicians, and of course learning to play an instrument
KZ is a from the Philippines singing in an international competition in China in this video. She had a throat operation in the past that limited her vocal chords range and that explains why she needs to make a difference with such limitation. Check out her humble beginnings doing a rendition of the classic SOMEDAY OVER THE RAINBOW as her audition piece in the Philippines XFactor audution where it all started. Enjoy
This is the best example of cover. You don't have to be sound like exactly the original.. 👍👍

TRIVIA: KZ opened up about polyps found in her vocal cords and admitted that she almost gave up singing. She added that this made her realize that belting was not the only way to sing and it led her to discover her present RnB style. You should probably hear more of her songs. She may not be a belter nor she can reach high notes like most Filipina singer does but she is still incredible.

Just so you know, the auto tune at the beginning was an artistic choice. KZ is not only a singer, she's an artist. Her rendition of rolling in the deep in this instance is almost theatrical. Here's my take on her performance which I believe has several creative layers: interpretation of the story in the song, melodic changes, vocal style, and stage presence. I want to share what I feel about how KZ interpreted the story. The creative decision to start with an acoustic guitar and then the utilization of the auto tune is pure genius. The guitar implies romance that rolled into some sort of a bubble as soon as KZ begin singing with the auto tune. The transition is confusing- acoustic to auto tune - exactly what KZ wants to evoke (what happened after she gave her all in love?). The robotic sound effected by the auto tune is a reference for manipulation as KZ (who feels treated like a robot) sings "you played it... you played..." while standing still in that dark stage, her facial expression is sad and defeated. She wanted to break away from this unfortunate state.When KZ belts out a sustained note with the auto tune, that signals breaking away from the dark - she pushed it away (see her hand gesture before the sustained belt). The camera moved and rolled (underline rolled). The stage is now filled with streaks of light. She's free! She's no longer sad. But she's angry because something beautiful is all put to waste. It takes a technical vocal skill to utilize an auto tune in a live performance especially when KZ is clear what feeling she wants to communicate with her audience. KZ "owned" this song right in the very beginning. The rap is just a bonus. My two cents.
