A little history on KZ Tandingan, when she was much younger, she was a powerhouse high note belter, but during her high school or college, doctors discover a pollip in her vocal cords, she was so disheartened and depressed that she could no longer sing high notes, through perseverance and hard work; KZ started singing again making her limitation a blessing by creating a style that suites her voice.. it is sad in a way she is no longer a soprano but being a talented alto, she has paved herself a nitche in the Philippines music industry.. different from the numerous soprano belters.

Goosebumps everytime I watch that video! Great job KZ

KZ not only got the audience hooked on her vibe but you can tell that her band certainly enjoyed her arrangement as well. KZ made this her very own cover song. Her emotions made this song a complete 180 and she was not the person that was feeling pain or sorrow, for a bad relationship breakup, but rather she was the victorious person who knew that she was never looking back and her lover would have to face some consequences and even some guilt or remorsefulness. KZ has the energy and creativity to make this her own version that is sassy and upbeat. Just the appearances of the audience tells you alot about her connections with them. There are emotions and those goosebumps that she manages to drive into their excitement. I never get tired or feel desensitized watching this performance multiple times. There are so many nuances and visual effects that aren't so obvious. If you watch very carefully, her appearance of kneeling was not intentionally planned. She had one of her hoop ear rings come loose and she had to retrieve it into her left hand and she never missed a beat. What I like about the beginning of her performance was the creativity and uniqueness, using voice manipulation to capture your attention, while still giving you that wow factor as a teaser. Her rapping was also a big surprise and she pulled that one off with amazing skill. I never had goosebumps that could match this particular performance!

Facts about KZ's Rolling in the deep: 1. She did the song Arrangements all by herself 2. That rap piece was her original composition (x factor PH audition) 3.she can't do high belting that's why she developed this one of a kind style. 4. she puts Jazz, Rock, Pop, Balad, Rap in a single song. turning it into another version and a master piece

KZ is so great in everything she sings! Say Something is one of her best covers. Hua Chenyu, Jessie J, and KZ in the same competition was just over the top!

After stumbling across Hua Chenyu-Nunchucks, I went and watched the whole serious (with subtitles!) and was blown away with all of the contestants. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

I knew you would love her. KZ is one of the most versatile artists in the world. The comparison with Hua Chenyu is definitely on par with my own thoughts. When you first said, I don't know what emotion to call it.. the first word that came to my mind was a word you said later... GRIT. I wish I could find the translation that I had at one time for the rap section. It's in Tagalog and, in addition to being fast, it also has a "hell hath no fury like a woman scorned" theme that goes perfectly with the song. Like other great performers, she's not afraid to mix it up and came in first for the episode and beat out Jessie J (the overall winner of Singer 2018). I would like to recommend The Hurts You Never Knew as a follow up reaction. My favorite of hers from Singer, it's something totally different. What a bummer about your Sohyang reaction. KBS can be a real bugger with the copyright strikes 😥which is a shame. Sohyang deserves to have her name out there.

Actually, both Hua and KZ became friends in the competition. Hua is this very curious kid when it comes to music so he came to her once and asked a few questions, then maybe--because they both have the same adventurous spirit towards music--they became friends. There was even an episode in Singer 2018 when KZ was unfortunate to have drawn the 1st spot in the order of presentation (they did it by drawing lots, sort of), but then Hua came and offered to exchange spots with her, and they ended up with Hua presenting first and KZ presenting around 3rd/4th/5th. WhenKZ got eliminated, Hua stood up and hugged her, and kept holding her hand. They see each other as sister-brother. In fact, KZ addresses him as "brother" and they fool around lots of times in the show. Yup, they're like these children who do weird stuff while the other contestants somehow felt like those elder members of the family who dote on them. The Singer has these candid shots showing how the singers prepare for their weekly renditions and things that happen backstage (sort of semi-reality-tv like) and it was fun to watch how the contestants interact with one another and their respective handlers (each contestant has one and KZ's handler was the handsome guy in glasses that you see jamming to her music down the stage).

You sir seem to know your craft quite well. I like how you really get everything that KZ and Hua did during their performances and provide points up to the smallest details. Among all the reactors, you were the only one that talks about how important it is to use technology to enhance the song with an effect. This is the first time I hear someone talk about re-tune speed and how it creates that robotic sound. Just like you, a few coaches also pointed out that you don't necessarily need to reach higher belting notes to draw the audience attention. Good reaction to one of my favourite singers. Agree that she has similar approach to singing as Hua Chenyu. Check out other performances from Singer 2018 including Royals, Say Something, etc. These performances are especially good as the staging, big orchestra and sound are excellent - seeing artists at their best. But other performances on the Wish 107.5 bus. If you are not familiar, this is a bus in the Philippines equipped for singers to perform live. As for her vocal range. From what I've read, when she was younger, she had some kind of problem with her voice - i think a polyp on her vocal chord or something like that, which effected her range - and depresssed her very much. But she was able to work things out and said that she was able to find a way to express emotion within the limited range that she had left.

I don't know why people and fans virtually forget to put KZ's renditions of "Real Gone" and "See You Again" in the recommendations. I loved her "Real Gone" over her "Royals" and her "See You Again" does not lose in the amount of emotion induced compared to her "Say Something". Honestly Caleb, you need to watch all KZ renditions in Singer 2018. And that rap was not Chinese, it's Filipino (she's from the Philippines). In her time in Singer 2018, KZ rapped in Chinese only once--and that was in her farewell piece "See You Again". KZ was a foreign artist invited to the show, just like how Jessie J was invited in the very same season (that's why you see Jessie J in there), and how Dimash was invited in the season prior (wherein he just bombastically showed off his otherworldly vocals).

She holds nothing back, you get everything. I think the subject of the song informs the performance. If you have ever been on the wrong end of a break up there is a certain resolve not to let the other person know what they took from you. She is defiant, she is saying," you got that round, but don't think for one minute you are getting anything else. Go ahead and try and see what happens. Unfortunately I have been on both sides and I can tell you, from unhappy experience, they mean it. So I 'get' this song. K.Z. is the best entertainer going today. Her creativity is unmatched. Her arrangements are spectacular. It would be awesome to see her live. To be in the same room with this source of pure energy, would be sublime. But unless she puts on a concert in the tip-top of Northern California USA I will never get the chance. So this is as close as I'll get, so I'll enjoy the hell out of these performances. While I'm wishing, I think a KZ and Morissette would do nicely. Thanks for your reaction I can tell you enjoyed it.
