Oh My!!!!! Because of this very video, I bought 1 can of super clean, and cleaned my Tacoma engine that has never been cleaned since new, I only used a water hose and a shop vacuum to suck water out of valleys, and I'm blown away how clean it looks now, it took a hole 20 minutes to have sparkling engine. Thank you

I definitely would have protected those caps on the battery from the super clean. Car batteries are not sealed 100%. Those caps are actually vents for the battery, and has a high potential of letting in pressurized water or air if aimed at it. Free flowing water would have been better on the battery IMO. Distilled water, no big deal. A cleaner or anything else is super bad inside a battery. I would have removed the battery caps and cleaned all the excess water & possibly super clean out before ever pulling out the blower. Probably topped off the battery at no charge, since I had some distilled water left over. Scott, knows what I mean. I Love the Super Clean product

Scott: Love the videos. I noted the your reason for using the aerosol SuperClean is to that you don't have to do all of the pumping using a trigger sprayer. What about using the SuperClean liquid concentrate diluted appropriately in a small pump up sprayer? That seems much more cost effective and you don't have the waste of disposing of empty aerosol cans.

Good job buut, always disconnect the battery so you don't end up with an electrical short. Engines are made to take on water, from the bottom. The components are made water tight however, over time their seals loosen up the to heat etc. And the pressure washer may not have been your best bet.

I love this video for this reason: Scott cleaned that engine bay in real time and it only took about 12 minutes to do it! These are the videos we need to see so we know how long these steps actually take so that those of us getting ready to start our own businesses(Moi) know how long these jobs should take. On a side note though, Scott probably took longer to dress the engine than he did washing it, but that's ok since the final details always take the longest...

When I saw 'Super Clean' in the description, I knew I was in for a treat. We use that stuff at my employer's shop, and it's almost a little scary how it strips grease and gunk off machines .. the coolant we use on our CNC machines is REALLY nasty when it starts to break down, and SC is the only thing that cleans it off.

Your late model cars like this Nissan do have sealed electrical connections to protect from moisture. Your older models do not. I do detailing myself here in Iowa and have been very successful with everything that Ray has advised to do. Some say he talks too much, He just wants to make sure you understand what he's trying to teach you. He does great work, so, unless you are a pro and can do better, quit complaining and start listening. Who knows, you may make some good money as I have by doing it the right way.

I see a lot of people in these comments saying how they clean *their own* equipment when all it costs them is time - when you're doing it for a living, you do what the customer pays you to do. Lots of free work will put you out of business when everyone starts to expect you to work for free. You can work for yourself for free all you want, so what if it takes you an entire afternoon or the whole day, you're not paying for someone else's time or a very specific service. When you go in an pay for an oil change, do they also change your plugs, wires, etc, for free?

I have watched a couple of your videos. Learned a bit from them. But... number one. If your not removing most of the plastic parts to get down to the actual engine your not cleaning the engine only the plastic and rubber parts. Next what about the bottom? I always go under to clean also!! That cleans up any oil leakage from oil being added and running down the engine. Just something I see. I'm sure your either detailing for a car lot or regular customers. But the job is not complete until the entire engine is clean! Anyway, like your vids. Just had to comment.

Lots of people fear shorting out the battery, which is why not a lot wash they're own engine bays. But as long as you don't use too high a pressure for an extended period of time, you should be ok. I'm about to use some similar tools to clean out my poor old Subaru. I'll use a plastic bag to be safe, but people with more experience don't really need to.

They hide ALOT of dirt AND...AND, the whole battery needs to be wiped down and you can't do that while it's still in the engine bay! He MUST HAVE BEEN TIRED when he did this vehicle. Scott, really enjoyed this real-time demo. A thought - It might be possible to reduce even further the amount of water used to rinse cleaner if you worked your spray in only one overall direction, e.g. start at the front of the bay (radiator cover area) and work your rinsing movement back to the firewall. You might net a little less water in the engine bay. I think "less" is always good when it comes to water in an engine bay. :-)

Hi Scott, I watched this about 4 years ago when I was selling an 8 year old Odyssey. I picked your approach out of a number on detailing engine bay. It was great, easy and effective. In fact when the first guy came to see the car, he took it for a ride, came back crawled around underneath and asked me to pop the hood. When I saw his face, he was perplexed - why does the engine look like it just came off the line at Honda? were there leaks, major engine work, etc, etc. Fortunately, the rest of the car showed as mint so I just told him that I detail the car myself and take excellent care of my vehicles. 'Nuff said. Closed the deal right then. I just bought a 2002 Vette convertible. Car is mint exterior. Interior and engine bay need some love. I'll be watching this and some other videos you've done to study up before i start. One question about the roof. It is an OEM replacement in the past 5 years - looks like new. I was thinking of using Ragg Top cleaner and Protectant on my roof. Any experience with this product? Thanks again.

I finally understand! He says he uses distilled water. That is the key. Distilled water does not conduct electricity. That's why he can spray it in an engine and not worry about anything. Regular tap water is a no go, the minerals in the water make the water electrically conductive but distilled water has no minerals.

  • @Z00m44

@@Z00m44 Water doesnt conduct much electricity. The impurities do. Distilled water is even purer than deionized water, so even if the H2O molecules conduct a minuscule amount of electricity, it's basically the same as 25 degrees of Celsius warm air. So you can pour distilled water on a batteri and it wont conduct more than the warm air around it. But you need to be sure it's perfectly distilled. Double distilling will help make the water as close as you'd want it when pouring it on or near a battery, but single distilled will most likely also be enough. A small shower of rain or water, even undistilled, wont short circuit your battery.

I spent days and days removing the remaining spotty paint using lacquer thinner. It was a royal PIA. This video is nothing more than a giant affiliate kickback marketing banner. Lame af.

@@stephanparis6887 sorry to hear. Super Clean can be used full-strength on engines, however it should be used diluted on painted surfaces (3 or 4:1) and not allowed to dwell for long. In fact, Super Clean warns to be careful when using it on aluminum, painted, and powder coated surfaces. So it's probably best to just use it diluted and rely on a little more agitation to finish the job and rinse it off relatively quickly on those painted areas.

That looks great. I have just one suggestion, though. When flushing the engine bay with water, it is a good idea to pull the negative lead off the battery and cycle the ignition from off to on then back off to drain any stored energy in the computer. You don't want any electronics to short out if water gets inside them and they are somehow powered. I know it's not necessary to do this, but better safe than sorry. An extra 30 seconds or less of work could save some expensive electronics(sensors, switches, computers, etc.). Just a suggestion.
