If you are moving to Texas know that we may not have a state income tax here, but we pay high property taxes, high sales taxes, and have high user fees on just about everything. This state is tailor made for people who have money. But not so good for the working class.

I'm planning to return to my home soon town in TX. You nailed the "must-know" items pretty well. The cultural aspect is very important-get use to it, or go back to CA, WA, or NY. The point no no state income tax vs high property tax is overlooked by most newcomers + very high utility costs for AC in the summer. Oh yeah, being hyper-political correct about everything is not such a big deal in TX so be prepared! I can't wait to get back.

one thing he didn't mention under "culture." While Texas overall is very conservative, the main large cities (Houston, San Antonio, Dallas...) are pretty progressive, Austin especially. Also, don't think you are moving to a cultural wilderness. All the big cities have wonderful museums, orchestras, etc...local music scenes etc. And if your impression of Texas is based on old Dallas reruns, please update your stereotypes. And having done the move halfway across the country, I know there is a period of adjustment and this can cause some resistance and frustration, but as the guy says, don't come here and start lecturing us about how much better you did everything back in CA or NY ... Most people will politely sympathize and not get up in your face to argue the point (because bad manners are a sign of bad upraising. What would your momma say if she could see you acting rudely) but in the long run, it won't end well for you. People will just start avoiding your. Otherwise, Welcome! PS. Don't be worried about all the comments telling you to leave your California-isms behind (although that's not bad advice). As a fourth generation Texan, I know that most of these folks are only recent arrivals themselves.

Have been looking at the Dallas/Ft. Worth area suburbs like Rockwall, Carrollton, Little Elm, Royse just to name a few. We are planning a possible move in a few years, my concern is that I have been seeing that most homes in Texas have a lot of foundation issues? How prevalent of a problem is it? Any tips on where to buy with less foundation issues or what to look for? Weather how bad is flooding/tornadoes? Would you consider the climate stable asking for health reasons? Thank you for your time - Have a wonderful day.

  • @JeremyAKnight

Great Questions. The foundation issue can be prevented by watering around your foundation, and putting gutters on the home and having proper drainage. Putting in French drains to take the water away helps drastically prevent this issue. I have a video on my channel about the weather. It would be a good one to watch. Dallas area will see more Tornados than the Austin Area. But it's not like living in OKC. Also, Dallas and Austin do see a lot of violent storms and you will see times of hail damage. But its better than living closer to the coast, like Houston.

First of all Martinez you need to read a book very once and a while. Native Americans and slaves had relations with one another. Also native Americans had slaves themselves. My grandfather's family is native American. On my mother's side ( Cherokee nation ) Also my grandfather's grandmother walked the trail of tears when she was a child. Trail of tears is a tragic event in this countries history. Also my father's family comes from Ethiopia 🇪🇹 and Zimbabwe. If you didn't know they are countries in Southeast Africa. Along with many other countries in Africa. Human beings originated in Africa. So you and your family wouldn't even exist without my family..!!! Your grandfather comes from my grandfather's nut sack..!! Your family should be kissing my family's biscuits for there existence. So don't make a statement about something you don't know...! You're just revealing your ignorance..!! You must be jealous that I belong here and your family had to break the law just to get here..!!! Sincerely fuck off..!!
