What is amazing he never called it a ''rip off'' he called it what it actually is a tribute. Starship Troopers '97 is my favorite movie, and i've watched it countless times, but i remember back in 1999 (first time i heard about it) i rented it and i had 24 hours before i had to return it. Watched it 4 times during that period.

I found the animation, "roughnecks" on the internet, it follows the starship troopers campaign against the bugs, and in some capacity is closer to the book than the movie, there is also a japanese animation, another two movies, and another 2 3d animations, very cool universe. And the book should be mandatory reading

I will never stop being so happy at how Casper Van Dien just totally went all-in on loving his role in Starship Troopers. The guy has never wearied of or become frustrated with being Johnny Rico his entire damn life. You feel like he could be having the worst day ever and yet if someone shouted RICO! or ROUGHNECKS! at him in the street he'd still HOOAH! right back.

Whilst it probably worked out for the best with Starship Troopers stuff like this does make me wonder. Is there some kind of special test all movie directors have to pass? Like, do they have to display a certain level of disregard for source material before they're allowed to become a director, or what? Why is it so common for directors to be like, "Screw your story, never even read it, I'm just gonna do it my way. Thanks for letting me use the name chumps!"

If he did something for Helldivers, he would have to be a completely different character, which might not be _AS_ fun as him being Rico in Helldivers.

@@nicolaspeigne1429 It was something like they tried to 1.0 too early and broke the game beyond repair. Right around the time Helldivers 2 launched, which caused this mass exodus to THAT game. Supposedly, though, the Troopers game is still being worked on and still has a good following, and HD2 is starting to hemorrhage player base due to the insistence by the devs that the game needs to 'ramp up difficulty' a few dozen more times by year's end. I'm thinking the Troopers game will be mildly easier and a tribute to the 'expendable warfare' of the movie, while Helldivers is going to be the 'what do you mean you want functioning weapons?' variation for the 'wow omg lol yeet' gamers who fit THAT particular niche. Each will have its individual lane. Question is just whether or not the devs for the Troopers game can salvage the development time. Also, I say what I said about HD2 because the forums are full of people who have no idea what the word 'balance' means. The devs for HD2 have said they have no plans to make it anything but HARDER for the next 5 years, regardless of casual players' decisions to try playing or not. Launch was the easiest HD2 will ever be. Good or bad. P.S.: Don't forget EDF6 is also coming soon-ish, so 3 bug shooters sharing market space.

Dude Casper!! Three broken ribs after a dental damage take!! That giant bug take-down was the coolest moment of the movie. Ungela Brockman lost her fictional arm, but you broke 4 bones.

As a veteran that served overseas and Helldiver player, thank you for this video. That story in the end about the marine in the end got me all teary eyed. "Death from above!!"

The best you can do in a game is "HUG" emote. When you can hug your homies. Best fiture ever.

the personal shield generator pack extends over both people during the hug emote, so you can totally also save your homie from an errant airstrike with the power of friendship.

This was such a great idea to get Casper Van Dien reaction/opinion especially since Helldrivers is simply a spiritual successor to the movies and to the few StarShip Troopers games that were created. It still pretty badass that Casper still can pull off his Rico's persona, kinda the same energy you see from Arnold Schwarzenegger from the terminator series, Michael Biehn from Aliens, Peter Weller from Robocop....man as a Gen Zer you guys in the 80s and 90s had it made
