John Doyle They have 34 titles to their name, more than Chelsea and Man City and countless other teams like Dortmund, Forrest, Hamburg, and Aston Villa which do have the UCL. UCL is a big achievement but winning it doesn’t make you bigger than another club.

Podrán llamarlo pecho frío o que Messi y Cristiano lo tienen de hijo, pero nadie puede negar el buen trabajo que Simeone ha hecho en el Atlético, en un plantel sin estrellas de la talla de Messi, Cristiano, Iniesta, Benzema, etc, lo pudo sacar 2 veces campeón en una liga de dos, llevarlo a dos finales de Champions y lo hizo tricampeón de la Supercopa de Europa.

Tengo muy gratos recuerdos de aquella final.El Atleti no ganaba la Copa del Rey desde 1996,año del histórico Doblete de Liga y Copa del Rey y no le ganaba ningún partido al Madrid desde la temporada 1999/2000,el cual no le sirvió de nada porque terminó bajando a Segunda.Aquel día el Atleti mató dos pájaros de un tiro. Vi la final en un bar cercano a la puerta del Sol donde hicieron una quedada para verlo por Facebook seguidores del Atleti creando eventos,me apunté,estuve ahí y lo disfruté en grande.Con el gol de miranda me abracé a seguidores que no conocía de nada pero estábamos en familia.Tras el partido estuve en el ya extinto O'Neill's Irish Pub celebrándolo viendo un concierto y bailando con unas turistas irlandesas.Después cuando cogí el buho para regresar a casa ví cómo estaban desmontando en Cibeles la pasarela que tenían puesta alrededor preparado para que fueran los del Madrid a celebrarlo,pero como perdieron se llevaron una desagradable sorpresa.Al día siguiente,me fui de paseo hasta Neptuno por la mañana a hacerme fotos con la bufanda mientras estaban montando la pasarela para las celebraciones que fueron por la tarde.

El Atlético y el Real madrid solventaron cómodamente su primera eliminatoria ante el Jaén y el Alcoyano respectivamente. En los octavos de final los rojiblancos noquearon al Getafe en el Calderón. Un penalti cometido sobre Diego Costa lo transformó el propio delantero encarrilando la eliminatoria. En la segunda parte un disparo de Arda Turan al palo fue aprovechado por Filipe Luis. Y ya en la recta final, Diego Costa sentenciaba la contra dejando intrascendente el 0-0 de la vuelta. Por su parte los madridistas sufrieron en su visita a Balaídos. El Celta comenzó golpeando con un centro de Crondel y rematado a la red por Bermejo. Con los vigueses lanzados, un tremendo misil de Bustos ponía contra las cuerdas a los de Mourinho. Sin embargo cuando el partido agonizaba, Cristiano Ronaldo salía al rescate de su equipo. En el Bernabéu un latigazo de CR7 ponía al Madrid en ventaja. El crack blanco estaba enchufadísimo y un pase de Modrič lo aprovechó el luso para hacer el 2-0. Pese a que los merengues se complicaron la eliminatoria con la expulsión de Sergio Ramos, Cristiano Ronaldo disipó las dudas con su tercer gol de la noche. Ya en el último minuto, Khedira se animaba y cerraba la goleada. El Madrid abriría la llave de los cuartos recibiendo en el Bernabéu al Valencia. Los locales salieron imponiendo un fuerte ritmo y una contra letal fue finalizada por Karim Benzema. El equipo che no se arrugó y tuvo el empate en un remate que Jonas mandó incomprensiblemente fuera. Los blancos castigarían ese error con una acción que acabó en un autogol de Guardado. En los últimos minutos Cristiano pudo matar a la contra, pero el equipo merengue conseguía una buena renta para la vuelta. Los blaugranas intentaban la igualada ante un Madrid que esperó su ocasión para fulminar la contra, y en ese momento Di María hizo un nudo a Puyol y su disparo repelido por Pinto llegó a Ronaldo que fusilaba el fondo de la red. En pleno festival madridista, un impecable testarazo de Varane asestaba el golpe definitivo. Los catalanes marcaron el gol de la honra con un tanto de Jordi Alba, pero los msdridistas ya hacía tiempo que se habían asegurado su presencia en la final. Con los madridistas a la desesperada, Courtois se vistió de héroe repeliendo un tiro de Higuaín y después agigantándose en un remate a bocajarro de Özil. En los minutos finales el Madrid cayó en la desesperación, y Cristiano Ronaldo acabaría expulsado. La tensión y los nervios se apoderaban de ambos equipos, pero con el pitido final, los rojiblancos explotaban de alegría. En una final para la historia, el Atlético de Madrid puso fin a una racha de 14 años sin ganar a su máximo rival y conquistaba en territorio enemigo su décima Copa del Rey.
