    Awesome video, thank you so much for uploading! A tip for those using a 'can' style bleat call. Drill a hole in the back/bottom of it(opposite side of the holes) and blow through it, rather than turning the can. A much more accurate reproduction and more control

    Thanks for the comments. The deer on camera is definitely the deer calling. You guys are right, this is a fawn. If I remember correctly, this was mid-late December. As most of you guys know, many fawns are bred late season. She was the best bait in the woods that day.

    Several years ago I was hunting in an area overloaded with Does. I took one with a bow opening day. For the next several days I hunted about 3 more times in that stand and each day the fawn would come by looking and bleating for its mother. I felt bad because I had never seen that before. I wait until late November, early December now before taking a doe.

    I wouldn't feel too bad about it. Deer being a heard animal...another doe family unit will take that fawn in. Only time I don't shoot is when I see a doe with a fawn that still has spots real early in the season.

    I've seen that too. Last season, I hit the bleat caller and this poor fawn came running in looking for its mother. I hadn't shot her, so I dunno where she was. I won't shoot a doe that has a fawn with it in early season either if they are alone. If there's a large group where you can't tell who is who, then I might, but then any fawn is already part of the herd. Some does seem to stay solitary with their fawns around here. The fawn will be okay and take up with another doe, but it seems harsh. I'd rather shoot some spikes early, little defective deer that they are. Or a giant buck, but I'm still looking for him ;)

  • @pizzaman2685

    @pizzaman2685

    Spikes could be a buck with bad genes, but the majority of the time it was just born late in the season or from a really young doe. Most spikes will grow to be great looking deer in a few years.

    She might be in estrus (or ready to be bred), ultimate buck attractor right there. And yes, it is possible for some fawns to go into estrus and to get bred by a buck.

  • @galehess6676

    This is litle one looking for momma, not doe bleat as in mature doe /rut/ seeking other deer as evening starts, not sure what bleating for momma gets you unless a doe had a fawn hit by a car and she's looking. Deer know eachother's scent, voice, patterns, very unlikely to have success. I've hit a grunt and had an 8 walk 150 yards out of dense cover into woods, rattled in a lot of all sizes, bleat canned a doe last week, never had success with primos bleat grunt tubes except for grunt feature, hit it once and that is IT, otherwise you are only scaring them off. Rattling you can repeat every 2 hours for 20 minute intervals 2-3x, then give it a rest. Deer know all.
