I love that you are on a tennis court. All of my classes right now, in 2022, are held in a Covid19-safe outdoor tennis court.

Carenza Is one of the best things I love about this practice. Unlike Karate and Kung Fu were you have to be married to their forms Never deviate or you’re doing it wrong, this practice allows you to be yourself to work with your own body type your own personality your own mood your own physical ability at the time of practice and make it truly your own style

Paul, many thanks for another one of your excellent and informative videos. There are many unqualified so called instructors on You Tube right now who are incorrectly teaching the martial arts disciplines to the masses. It is really wonderful to have The Kali Center. Paul, I really enjoy practicing Kali and how you are able to logically integrate the didactical teachings of Kali as you parallel those teachings with the clinical aspect thru " Drills / Hand to Hand Combat / Weapons Training " in a real time scenario of workouts that you instill in me. Paul, please keep them coming along.

simply amazing. i'm not an expert nor have formal training. but i'm a public grade school teacher concerned with outsider bullying cases and abduction reports so started grabbing some basics from your channel (plus other practical krav maga for kids from others) that i share to our students for their protection and confidence development. i hope you could do some practical empty hand self-defense for kids as well. looking forward. God bless.

Kali is not typically a good "self defense" art. The weapons and techniques are intended for live combat. Probably not the ideal art for kids ... Wrestling and boxing would probably be far more helpful as they still enforce the fitness aspect, but give kids the environment within which to grow with and develop respect for each other in. I'm not saying it can't be done with Kali, but that it's potentially biting off more than you can chew, or more than is necessary, with potentially more dangerous consequences. Probably better to start off slow, then see how it develops from there. There is no Martial art that will make you impervious to bullies. It's more about getting the kids together, and building their self-confidence... With them helping each other. That's the important part. My school did rock climbing. You have to build trust and work together. One person climbing, the other on the ground managing the ropes for safety. You can overcome bullying in any number of creative ways. I hope that helps. Oh, and icebreakers. Use them. I'm sure u can find a list somewhere. But basically it's a series of questions and u go around in a group and share a little about yourself. Favorite food? Movie? Etc. Keep doing them! Every few days do another. No judgement. Everyone is encouraged to share. And every once in a while ask something personal. Something hard. And explore as much as they are willing. Ask questions. let others ask questions. There is no surer way to get a room full of ppl to care for each other than to have them open up. But also stress the importance of Privacy. Something like "you wouldn't want your personal things share, so if someone does have personal things they share think about how you would feel. And be prepared to guard your group, protect, nurture would probably be the right word. Keep an eye on them and make sure to help work through the tough stuff when they need advice or help. And initiate new members by having them answer the list! Fun times! Hope that helps.

As far as outsider bullying and abductions. Avoid. Run. Be alert. Be aware. Look out for each other. Call the police. Boxing would teach a kid enough to protect themselves. But escalating beyond that is unlikely to help. Better to run, than THINK you can fight them off. Just my 3 cents. Sounds pretty rough tho. Hope the kids get some help.

Depending on the age of the kids depends on what we teach for realistic application. This is a good idea though!

@the sky forge. I disagree Kali is an excellent self defense art precisely because it IS geared towards combat and not sport. Having been a lifelong martial artist since age 11 I’ve had opportunity to study karate Kung fu and Kali and found that I had to sort through a lot of useless karate techniques just to make it functional. In the process I suffered humiliation losses and injury. Not so with Kali Kali teaches everything one needs to defend oneself the weapons component is obvious i the hands of even a beginner, a book, a rolled up magazine, a ruler, and of course a pencil or pen become functional weapons Since the art teaches one to target the hands fight need not be bloody affairs. Kali also has an empty hands component and also stand up grappling Last but not least the art teaches proper control of distance how to employ and defend angles of attack footwork for escape and evasion and the ability to confront.
