Real estate agents aren’t worried about the NAR commission lawsuit and here's why

A verdict in a $1.8 billion lawsuit against the real estate trade group National Association of Realtors (NAR) has some analysts expecting a revolution in how the traditional real estate commission system works. However, many working real estate agents don’t believe the verdict will move the needle for buyers and sellers. They feel the problem the lawsuit intended to address stems as much from a broken system as from a lack of consumer education.

The best course of action if you lack market knowledge is to ask a consultant or investing coach for guidance or assistance. Speaking with a consultant helped me stay afloat in the market and grow my portfolio to about 65% since January, even though I know it sounds obvious or generic. I believe that is the most effective way to enter the business at the moment.

Real estate investors losing money is music to my ears. They are a major reason why the real estate market is the way that it is now.

I think this is something I should do, but I've been stalling for a long time now. I don't really know which firm to work with; I feel they are all the same but it seems you’ve got it all worked out with the firm you work with so i surely wouldn’t mind a recommendation.

It's actually buyers who are buying the house so they are also paying the commission.

Who are the people and companies behind this lawsuit? Are they associated with this new trend of corporations buying into real estate?

The people behind this lawsuit are home sellers who felt they were financially injured by being forced to pay for the opposing party's agent (the buyer's agent). They proved their case in the courtroom. It was a rigged system for 90 years. I'm one of the Missouri homeowners who is a class member in the Sitzer case.

I have seen many buyers and sellers lose so much because they did it themselves without realtors.

There are lower commission options but realtors 'steer' their clients toward high commission homes. There is a good CBC News youtube video that highlights the problem where the realtors steered clients away from FSBOs 100% of the time. 6% is way too much. 3 to 4 percent is far more reasonable.

Correct, except $5,000 should be sufficient for a $100,000 home or a $10,000,000 home.

I've tried FSBO once, as soon as realtors found out I wasn't an agent, they lost interest immediately.

Not really. But the few that did shouldn’t cause an entire industry to change. Good luck home sellers having buyer agents fly blind now and having new home buyers have to increase the money needed to purchase a home.. that suuuuurly fixed the “problem” 🤦‍♂️
