This is shameful behavior by Tempe, which has sadly been going on for years now. It's clear that the city is using the police and park rangers to intimidate both the homeless and the charitable organizations trying to help them. AZ HUGS has been cited over 34 times now, and has even been hit with ridiculous parking fines, all as a way to get them to stop helping the homeless. Read that again: they have actively tried to prevent a charitable organization from helping the homeless get off the streets. Even church groups have had to cancel their weekly free meals for the homeless (some even on their own property!) because of the city's threats. What kind of out-of-control government is this? It's beyond cruel, and even more so to treat a veteran this way. Recently, Tempe claimed a 34% decrease in the number of homeless in the city--is it because of police mistreatment like this? Simply relocating the homeless to other cities isn't doing anything to solve homelessness, no matter how much of a PR spin you try to put on it.
