Especially in the Southeast. They are notorious for hitting overnight.

This is a great catch. It goes into such detail and even mentions other possible storms that aren’t near yet.

This is a day in tornado history we will never forget for Kentucky and Indiana

Tornado Emergencies are great catches. I remember this passing by, considering I live near.

if I ever heard a Tornado Emergency issued for my area, my stomach would be right at my throat . . . it's not just a confirmed tornado, it's the intensity in a heavily populated area that gives the term *Tornado Emergency*

Nice catch. I actually caught a Tornado Emergency on September 1, 2021 here in Pennsylvania. That was the only Tornado Emergency I ever captured.

On 4/27/2011 the EAS was down and power out to 250,000 due to the early am storms. When the big tornadoes started in the afternoon warning was difficult. If yours had gone off for me like that I'd have a heart attack!

The EAS can't "be down", it's a system on every television and radio station in the country. For the EAS to go down, every station has to be down.

Makes sense...I was just curious b/c mine only ever goes off if something's issued for Johnson County, IA. Anything issued to any of the surrounding counties doesn't set it off, but I'll still hear the EAS

Yeah. I only have S.A.M.E. codes in my radios in case of a National Emergencies. Not weather products.

@0:40 if you ever hear the EAS mention "storm spotter confirmed" you take cover. I am a trained NWS storm spotter/chaser and we don't just report a tornado directly to the NWS unless it's really on the ground, doing damage and have the proof sent to them. You hear that, it gets as serious as it gets. Nice capture!

You feel like you're going to see this as your last then you see because they've never seen a PDS tornado warning but it's scary to go through tornado warning even if there is no tornado

They do have weather radios up in Canada. You can find most Midland radios in Canadian grocery stores if you are lucky. Your version of the National Weather Service is Environment Canada.

I have one of these radios now? And thankfully I do? A few days ago we had confirmed tornadoes it’s confirmed on my other channel. How I know? Was it cut out right before it said “confirmed Tornado or a severe T storm capable of producing a Tornado”

My wife would go back to her families farm in the summer they had two of these one downstairs one upstairs. They both go off at the same time everyone would go in the basement. Only one time a Tornado came across the farm but it missed by about 1/4 mile.

That was so scary. But unfortunately there was nothing we were able to do to prevent the tornado from touching down

Holy shit, I was in high school when this tornado hit. The stories I heard from witnesses were horrifying.

i got a PDS Tornado Warning, that had a Tornado Emergency on it, the warning said "A Confirmed Large and Extremely Dangerous Tornado was located near Kokomo, moving east at 30 miles per hour, This is a particularly dangerous situation, take cover now!"

my county was under a tornado warning in september, it was saturday the 6th, it had been very hot and humid all day, then the storms popped up, we didn't get any damage in our area, we only dealt with heavy rain, deafening lighting, and winds gusting as high as 30 mph at a few short intervals, me and my dad drove to burger king and rode it out in the parking lot, the following monday, my whole class was talking about the storm

the day after the storm though, the weather was much better, while on the day of the storm the high was 93, the day after, the temperature struggled to reach the mid 70s

NWS Memphis just had the tornado tones then it says "Tornado emergency for -so and so- county."

I do remember this it was really bad in Henryville, Indiana which took a direct hit, just like Louisville, Kentucky took April 03, 1974, both April 03, 1974, & March 02, 2012 will go down in weather history as "Super Outbreaks".

I’m late to this party, but have the same radio. When we were trying to sell our home, the realtor told us to pack it up because of showings (during spring/summer). I said heck no. We live in central OH.

You guys have to take in consideration that this was a very dangerous situation going on at the time. I should've kept my mouth shut yes, but I terrified for the people In that area. This storm produced an EF-4 tornado.

The first Tornado Emergency in Southwest Ohio and there isn't even a News Channel 7 coverage video on KZread because TheFritter is absent for the last 6 years

SDBM123 That's because this wasn't in the WHIO-TV area. This was covered by Cincinnati stations (WKRC, WCPO, WLWT, and WXIX).

My uncle steve and my aunt Jill's house just right on the border of Grant and Kenton county got their roof hit hard by the EF4 tornado and that was quite devastating for their house plus that was Two days before my 7th birthday wow!

Even If It Wasn't For Your County, You Should Always Be On The Look Out, and Listen for possible warnings.

Someone decided to freak out on one of my TORs when it was sunny out when the TOR was being broadcasted.

I do. I said I only put county codes in case of a national emergency. heck I'll keep recording as everyone is watching!

how do you know that one of your weather radios will go off? because a winter storm warning was issued and it didn't go off on my weather radio. how do you know that it will go off

Just go on iembot and turn on audio notifications. When a warning is issued, see if your radio is activated. My WFO (PBZ) tones Areal Flood Warnings, but not River Flood Warnings, and they don't tone Winter Storm Warnings.

892guns, if you get one form your local drug store or a Walmart in Canada, they will be set up to receive you national weather service in Canada, the manual that comes with the radio also will list frequencies for service stations in your area, that serve your province or county, if I said that right, so you can set your radio to receive alerts only for your imediate area

Gammareign,,, yes they do, call up Environment Canada on your computer and look there for the codes for your local area. In the U,S. they're called S.A.M.E. codes , not sure what they're called in Canada.your radio's manual will list the phone number and the computer address for Environment Canada. you can get the information there

The Hawkins EAS/ SPC Kingsport 6460 actually, 2013 of May 31st, the El Reno tornado was over 300 mph of windspeeds and the tornado was 2.6 miles wide, this is basically the move destructive tornado in the world.

To you, maybe not. Try telling that to a survivor of any other tornado. March 2, 2012 changed many lives across the Ohio Valley. Same with May 20, 2013 and May 3, 1999 where I live now in Oklahoma City and Moore. Space Doge, scientifically, you're correct though -- El Reno 5/31/13 IS the largest tornado on record. Radar data did record a wind speed well above the EF-5 rating, however because it didn't hit structures, it could not be classified as such.

Even as someone who lived through April 27, 2011, I don’t think that’s fair. Yes, that day will go down in weather history, but most of the country has their own “April 27”.

Tyler Sankar SPC means the storm prediction center, so most likely a no. If you are thinking SPC means "self personal channel," then that is not it.

That's What I Do, all the time whenever we get severe weather. I Have a NOAA Weather Radio Too!

Found it funny at 1:21, it said to "Pretect your life...". That is the first thime i heard that on a weather radio.

To protect your life

"Tornado Emergency" is basically an enhanced Tornado Warning and is similar to "A Particularly Dangerous Situation." There's either a squall line with tornadic storms embedded within, or a large, destructive tornado about to hit a heavily populated area. So yeah, it's serious. Tornado emergency is basically a guarantee that a tornado IS ON THE GROUND. Tornado Warning might just be doppler indicated rotation but you should still seek shelter!
