Real Doctor & Nurse React to “Nurses” | Medical Drama Review

NBC must think America loves hospitals, because this year they’ve now bought two medical dramas from Canada! This week, I’m reacting to “Nurses”, a prime time NBC show about... yep, you guessed it: Nurses. Just because I work in a hospital doesn’t mean I truly understand the every day hustle of being a nurse though, so I brought on my friend Bianca Antisera, a traveling trauma nurse, to share her insight. There were a lot of puzzling choices in this pilot episode, from unethical blood donations, patient privacy violations, and the bizarre premise that everyone in a hospital is throwing shade all day long. Anything you think we missed?

Also it has to do with respect too. If someone is listening to another person only because they're beautiful and good-looking, it means that the former doesn't have any ounce of respect and decency.

Hey Doc, combat medic here, a while blood transfer is extremely rare, but does happen in combat zones. There are situations where combat causiltues get stuck in aid stations without the capabilities to store blood (usually waiting on medavacs) and you literally have to put a call out for soldiers with the right blood type and you type and cross everyone then begin the transfer. Its pretty scary, but some trauma patients will die anyways without a blood transfusion so you don't really have a choice.

I’m so happy people like you care about patients dignity and understand they were people before they got sick, most nurses were amazing, but unfortunately it’s usually the awful and cruel ones who leave a lasting impression, though I made sure to email the supervisor to say how amazing most of the nurses were, they made my grandma comfortable in her last days and for that I will be forever grateful

@Max Gandor Definitely! Here, Filipinos seem to be the absolute lifeblood of the healthcare system - everything from trauma nurses to old age care. The only bit that worries me is that there's been quite a few instances across multiple sectors where ex-pat BIPOC staff are forced to work under bad conditions, are underpaid, get harassed etc, and I'm dubious whether these personnel would feel empowered to speak up, report this to regulatory bodies/Police, etc if this happens? (Just based on both their home country experience of interaction with govt bodies, and on the way their families back home often depend heavily on their remaining in their jobs?) Really hope the nurses union may have some initiatives in place to help make sure immigrated medical staff are aware of their rights & obligations under the NZ system, and that they have a supportive person they can go to for help & advice if needed...

Though it is seldom done people with the compatible blood types as a casualty may be called upon to donate some of there blood right there in the spot. Now as for this happening in a more definitive care setting; seems very unprofessional lol.

I'm a pharmacist not at a level one trauma, and we would have the blood, or be able to get it from our local blood bank or other hospitals if need be. This scene was just to make a character look heroic for the show. By the time they got his blood and did all the testing to make sure they could use his blood, they could have gotten pints from so many other sources. This doesn't even take into account the non-blood options they would have at their disposal.

I love watching these. As a physician, I feel Dr Mike and his invited guests always say the right thing. However a few things: - The hospital system I work at use code blue as an emergency response (not the best method, but it happens). - There is SO much more wrong with a physician giving blood... WTF!?? Has there been an objective screen for infections? The doctor was STILL WORKING, not the best time to be giving blood. Keep on the good fight, guys! PS trauma nurses are some of the toughest, best nurses I've ever seen so just a salute to Bianca Antisera!

Speaking of having a conversation that should not be done in front of patient… When my mom was at the end of her life the Home nurse told me, in front of her, “she’s actively dying”. We don’t know if my mother was able to hear her, but I was so mad at that nurse we asked for a different nurse for the next visit. 25 years later and it still tears at my heart!

It breaks my heart though that I just figured out at 5:30 am. After waking up for the day on Dec 26th that you went to a party and went against healthy/safe practices regarding COVID-19. Especially when you’re so big on being safe and healthy... I hope it was just a mistake and that you are now choosing to refrain from such behavior and have changed and learned :(...

@6:37 When he said, "It is done on the battlefields", he is correct. I was listed as a donor on the ship that I was on. If our ship went into battle and a mass disaster happened, they would have an area where people on the list would do a direct transfusion. BUT THAT IS ONLY IN BATTLE AND IN AN EXTREME SITUATION. I don't ever see that being needed in a civilian situation.

@@lexisross9457 well I understand some comments tend to be like that. That's why I specifically pointed out this comment. Infact when I heard about this party I was waiting for his response. Until then I never knew he had a second channel. I heard he posted an apology video and I came to this channel to find nothing then I simply searched for this particular issue to find that specific video. Now there are a few problems here. He posted this video on a channel with much less subscribers. Like significantly less. This channel has over six million subscribers while that channel barely even had 100 k. That is 60x difference. And now his apology. Let me be honest it felt like he was trying to justify his action. He did say he shouldn't have done it at the end but the focus should have been that how us his viewers should be extremely careful because the spread can take place even if we take all the precautions, best thing to do is social distancing mask and sanitizers and he may also talk about any quarantine time he is taking before going back to the hospital. Now he is a doctor and a celebrity. This does come with certain responsibility. Even now what ivanna and even I want is a proper genuine apology. One where he is actually taking responsibility and not throwing his friends under the bus.
