    My advice to anyone on Daisy Jones: get the audiobook and forget the physical book. The audio is wonderfully immersive, and my observation is that almost everyone who loved it listened to it, and people who hate it almost exclusively read the physical book.

    What I took from wayward son was that it was meant to show that life goes on after the villain is defeated. There isn’t a party or congratulations. It’s just life, everything just continues and they forget about the hero. Although I agree there wasn’t much point to the plot, I think it was necessary as a set up for the third and final book.

    Wayward Son was also one of my most disappointing reads of 2019. It was easily my most hyped book ever was SO let down. Now that time has passed, I have an appreciation for how this was an exploration of how to love someone who is so depressed and how to communicate when you are deeply depressed. Since Rainbow announced a third book now I just kinda think this book just suffers from middle book syndrome. My hope is that once the third book is out I’ll have a greater appreciation for Wayward Son once I can view it differently once Simon and Baz’s story arc when it’s completely done.

  • @agustinajimenez1195

    @agustinajimenez1195

    I honestly actually really enjoyed the book once I stepped outside of the bubble from the first book. Honestly I think what catches people off guard is the somewhat abrupt change in tone, especially in the tone of simon and baz's relationship. That definitely made me pretty sad while reading it, but I feel like it added complexity to it, and it made it more lifelike. The other thing I realized (and imo the mortal insturments, and the continuation series of percy jackson also struggles with this) is that there are almost way too many characters, and they all have their part to play in the plot, but it's a lot to keep track of and so what wasn't ideal was having something from the first book or earlier chapters pop up, and I'd have to look it up again to be able to remind myself what happened before being able to follow what is actually happening. Though that's only a minor inconvenience for me since this series isn't that long. And yeah there were many things that I wanted to be answered that weren't, it was still pretty thoughtful at setting it all up for the next book at least.

    Wilder Girls' ending felt like a cliff-hanger to me, however, it also felt like the novel as a whole was half the story and that's why it feels this way. It feels like a confirmation that there will be a sequel, and I'm so dang worried about Hetty, and I really, really enjoyed this book, that I ain't even mad about it. I mean, it has flaws but I love it.

  • @knz730

    @knz730

    I disagree, I think this was a very intentionally open ending where you are left to wonder what happens. I completely understand why that’s not for everyone but it’s a writing choice i absolutely love because of the potential implications. In Wilder Girls the key is we root for Hetty and Reese, but the ending suggests we contemplate that their escape, if successful, may be the literal end of the world. I think there will never be a sequel because there’s a lot of power in understanding this and leaving us wondering.

    my biggest fear when hearing that rainbow rowell was adapting the fanfic in fangirl into a book series was that she didnt really know where she was gonna go with it. Hey I’m a relatively new subscriber here and I haven’t read a single book you’ve recommended yet but I’m so glad I found your channel. I used to read so much when I was younger and I was constantly in the middle of a book throughout the torments of middle school especially. Then I started high school and got both a phone and a worse case of depression, which kind of killed my bookly escapades. I’m graduated now and working on trying to read more and this channel is so inspiring to me and so pleasant to listen to. It’s reminding me of how I used to cope with things and certain moods I used to have🥰 I especially remember finding perfect music-book matches and sinking into the moods and world of those characters so completely that I forgot I existed for a while and would come out of the book like I was waking up from a beautiful dream. So if you read this thank you from the bottom of my heart for rekindling my love of books and letting me meet with my past self in the gentlest way~

    The Girl in Red by Christina Henry has is pretty similar to Wilder Girls. It's about a girl trying to get to her grandma's after a disease swiped out a large percentage of the population. Clearly a government conspiracy is going on, but the main character is just trying to get by and survive on her own and isn't concerned much with the whole of humanity. Also the movie Annihilation has super similar vibes to wilder girls. Both of them have very visceral scenes with diseased bears in houses

    I appreciate that you took wether you like certain books despite their flaws into account. Honestly, my issue with book reviews will always be the fact that some people (and i mean in general like on goodreads) don’t take into account wether they enjoyed the book despite ridiculous plot devices or characters. Sometimes it isn’t about tropes or if things necessarily seem realistic but wether this world and what’s happening draws you in. I really hate seeing people trash on some books just for a specific plot point or transition into the story because that’s not the entire book. anyways that’s just my opinion so please don’t come for me eek

    There's nothing controversial about it. There are plenty of people who don't like it and seem to think they have the right to dictate what other women can and can't enjoy in fictional stories, but that's not controversy, that's just very sad thought/purity policing. Unfortunately some people just can't recognize that other people are capable of divorcing fiction from reality and wouldn't endorse a relationship like that in real life while being able to enjoy its drama in a fictional world.

    I know my friends hate it because a) he’s a nazi by in-universe standards and also tortured her and b) the friends that are also* black think a lot of things about Ben Solo’s redemption arc are just wholesale lifted from Finn’s story, but reylo shippers don’t like Finn, and are side-eyeing the ship hard because of that. (*also = I’m black but don’t wanna say these are my own opinions bc I haven’t watched anything beyond the force awakens (largely bc besides a nice two week stretch right after the movie came out, the fandom surrounding the new movies turned me tf off))

    Yoooo I think this was the quarantine video I never knew I needed. & a whole 48mins at that. Loved it!! 🙌🏽👏🏽 and I loved the way u just talked thru the whole thing and told us what we needed to know about the books & how u felt about them without wasting too much time. Loved that. I also enjoyed those superlatives at the end; hilarious. Anyways i have been doing a LOT of reading this quarantine time & I’ve been reading lots of romance cos that’s like, my main genre. I wanted to try something different and I’ve been interested in thrillers.. I’ve found two I wanted to read & I think... I think I might add Wilder Girls to the list. I might.. hm I don’t know. You likened it to lord of the flies & I was a literature student in secondary school & we read it for that class and I didn’t enjoy it.. hell I didn’t even bother reading the book because.. yeah lol it wasn’t something i was interested in but we’ll see. We’ll see. I might enjoy this, I don’t know. I might look it up on goodreads and see from there. I’m also glad u talked about wicked fox & serpent and Dove cos I had seen them on booktube recommendations and I wanted to check both out cos wicked fox was inspired by kdrama and gumihos & as a kdrama fan and one who enjoyed the nine tailed fox drama, I thought I would like this & then u brought out this video and I’m like heheheeh-🤡 & with serpent & dove that I thought I’d like, u likened it to shatter me and I don’t like that book haha so now I’m just like.. eh never gonna happen. Bottom line! Thanks for this video, I really enjoyed it! & Sorry for the long ass comment hehe 😅👉🏽👈🏽

    I thought Sorcery of Thorns was boring at times, rushed through the ending because I found myself not caring. A lot of stuff felt brushed over, we didn't get to see her having conversations with her friend through the mirror, it was just told to us. Things like that just made me baffled.

    First off I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS!!!! You are literally my favorite youtuber ever Secondly, I think a great video idea is if you compare books with the same sort of plot, I am not really explaining this well but like if you read for example: Cruel Beauty, A Court of Thorns and Roses and A Curse So Dark and Lonely because they are kind of based off on beauty and the beast. Another could be like Vampire Academy and Half Blood by Jennifer Armentout because I heard that they are really similar, Or you could do like Throne of Glass and Graceling, Idk but I feel like that would be really fun!

I'd buy it in a heartbeat 😂 I've been reading books since I've literally learnt to read, and the more time passes, the more my standards seem to become ridiculously high. I did enjoy Sorcery Of Thorns a bit more than An Enchantment of Ravens, but I’m guessing I just put the bar too high since I read Sorcery first, and I think Ravens was her first book so maybe that counts for something. I can’t wait for her next release!

    You nailed all my feelings around these books in half the time it would take me. Sorcery of Thorns was 100% my favorite book last year. I had serious issues with Wicked Fox (even though pretty much inhale Kpop and Kdrama). It was a mix of just not caring for the characters and so much going on that I thought, more than once, that the climax of the book had already passed. I had big issues with the lack of any endearing parental figures. I also read Wicked Saints and just couldn't finish it. I tried and tried, but Nadiya made me scream....

    I feel so much more validated about Wicked Fox lol. It just wasn’t what the description advertised versus what the plot really was. The description was very woo!adventure! And then I was like woah there’s a lot of mommy issues in here dang.. and I just didn’t like the speed and the way (?) everything developed. You really helped me verbalize what I didn’t like but I felt bad because so many people loved this. Wicked Fox really felt like a lot of side quests took over the main level lol.
