Continuing to enjoy your musings. Having a good reading year thus far. Taking a cue from your musing about non-fiction and picked up Generations by Jean Twenge, Ph.D. Also reading Madras on Rainy Days by Samina Ali centering around a Muslim Indian-American women who has returned to her home to be joined in an arranged marriage. I really enjoyed Brick Lane and will endeavor to read Love Marriage.

The Mary Beard book sounds so interesting - I must add that to my shopping list, although I suspect it will be an eye-watering price in South Africa! I backpacked through Mexico during 1996 (South Africans were not welcome in Mexico prior to 1994). I saw the La Venta heads in a park in Villahermosa. I just wandered through this beautiful, forest-like park and every now and again I would come upon another statue. It was astonishing, one of my best traveling days ever.

Those Caves are truly spectacular. What a good reading month Louise. That Mary Beard book was part of a TV show called Civilisations. I think it says that on the cover? Where I am we only got a couple of episodes but what I was able to see was fantastic. Another Mary Beard book which I have loved and keep going back to it us called Twelve Caesars. It looks at how the images from Classical Ancient Rome are depicted and used through time. Amazing!😊. Ooohhh I just found it on Utube of course. It’s an updated approach to Kenneth Clark. Cant wait to view all episodes!

Great reading month. I read My Friends; Ordinary Human Heart and Pompeii (Richard Harris). I just bought a lovely used copy of How We Look, am now listening to the audio of her Vesuvius. Also, reading Tobin's Long Island. Will the interview with Mary Beard be available for viewing? ❤

You really, really, really must read Clear. I’m not arranging a date in the diary until you have. That and Stone Yard Devotional. Lol. I really want to read all Monica’s books having met her a couple of times now, maybe I’ll start with Love Marriage… though maybe not with all that sex in it. Shocking!

Looks like you had an enjoyable reading month, save for that book that took an unexpected left turn 😆 My favorite read of June is Everyone on This Train is a Suspect by Benjamin Stevenson. His last book had set the bar high, and I was happy to see this one deliver as well. Tomorrow and Tomorrow abd Tomorrow (Gabrielle Zevin) was the book that left me disappointed. It's always tricky when something has been raved about online because it raises the expectations, but the characters and their stories left me very lukewarm. I also finished The Guest List from Lucy Foley on audiobook and I found it very enjoyable. I'd like to revisit the story and read the actual book at some point, because there was a lot of tiny little details that tied into the final twist and I find that I do miss some of the details when I'm listening to a book rather than reading it.

Thanks Louise for another great video about some interesting books. Like you i've had a rather good reading month too and really enjoyed these three; The lost love songs of Boysie Singh, The Glutton by AK Blakemore and have just finished Burial Rites by Hannah Kent, still feeling a bit teary about this one. Shall be looking for the Carys Davies book soon as have only read some of her novels. Let's hope July reading is as great.

Now Alice Munro is being cancelled too. Another dead person bites the dust. Maybe she needs to be, but dangerous to not being able to investigate when someone is dead. Prophet Song sounds so good.

My reading in May and June has been terrible. No books higher than a shaky 4 stars. The weather is truly miserable here. At the moment it’s 12 degrees, windy and pouring down. The only difference in summer here is that the rain is slightly above freezing. I really need sunshine but there’s no hope in the long range weather forecast. Best book of last two months? The Mars House by Natasha Pulley. ☘️👋🍀📚☕️📕📖
