the funniest part of these fics to me is how almost all of these protagonists apparently live under a ROCK. I’m... very ashamed to admit this but babysitting one direction was my favorite fan fiction at the time and this was a HUGE throw back for me 😳

i've noticed that whenever fanfic writers don't know how to transition from one scene to another, they will find some way for the main character to pass out, and the reason is always the most random, out of the blue thing ever. the main character sat in the cold for a few minutes and passed out as soon as the love interest arrived to talk about their issues. wow! how convenient! now the love interest will feel more guilty because they were already being a dick and the main character waited out in the cold for them. and they always use a phrase like "i succumbed to the darkness" and don't forget "all of the sudden, everything went black".

i also hate how writers would say that someone got the flu or cold from sitting outside in the cold weather. like, your cold/flu can get worse from being out in the cold weather, but you cannot trigger yourself getting sick from being outside in the cold. the cold air is not infected and contagious with viruses lmao, unless someone who is contagious is around you.

the orbs, the lack of vocative commas, the epithets when we already know the person's name, the human trafficking and coma plots, the adults writing fanfics, oftentimes pornographic ones, about underage real life people... the pain it causes me. I only saw this 1D fanfic fad from a distance but I was still caught by the shockwave and I hated it lol

ESPCIALLY the absolute refusal to use any character’s name or pronouns. I’ve read so much fanfic where the writer has this weird preoccupation with the characters’ hair colors, where they’re almost exclusively referred to as “the brunette” or “the redhead” etc.

Wattpad really made me question why I want to be a licensed pharmacist when I can be one directions adoptive 'daughter' and travel around the world with them
