Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Another year has come and gone and my second reading journal is all filled up! Here's a flip through of all of the vintage-inspired, dark academia-esque, scrapbooky spreads in my 2022 reading journal including individual book spreads, stats spreads, trackers, and more. I hope you enjoy seeing them (and how chonky my journal got - I think it's even bigger than last year's!) and get some inspo for your own reading journal (if you have one) 💛

Sort of. I do most of my rating/my little bookshelf monthly for books I've read that month in my every day journal. It's easier to handle. I did try to restart my old book journal (which I kept until about 2012) since i bought those in bulk years ago, putting in only my favorites/most meaningful books and it's...fine...but the journal is lined and the lines are VERY WIDE and I don't write that big lol ETA: but I also keep a comprehensive Access database of all my reading that includes author identities etc. and that's kind of where the money shot is (if I ever remember to pull the stats from it...takes a bit)

I’m so happy you’ve read a book from Ukraine. I wish our books were translated into English more, especially ones from the last 5 years, they are sooooo good and omg I’ve read so much Ukrainian fantasy this year and it was actually fantastic. @@selinabock152 Hi! Sorry it took me so long to answer. Though, i can't recommend anything recent cause literally nothing is translated. It is super upsetting that Ukrainian literature is so unpopular for translation. But I can still recommend some older novels i you interested :) the City by Valerian Pidmohylny (1920s, modernism, urban novel) Tango of Death by Yuri Vynnychuk (2012, two timelines: pre ww2 Lviv + our days, has a bit of magical realism) On Sunday Morning She Gathered Herbs by Olha Kobylianska - i haven't found anything else translated, but I like "the Princess" more, (1908, kind of about love although Kobylianska was big on feminism) +the one I've read recently and can't find the translation, but if it's translated in the future just know that I recommend Andriy Lagovsky by Ahatanhel Krymsky (1905, I guess its the first Ukrainian novel about a gay man, also now people think that it is autobiography)

I am still deciding on the spread I want to include. Around the World challenge map and the accompanying spread is my favorite. I don’t read enough for monthly spread and I don’t plan on doing stats but concentrating more on yearly reading goals and long term challenges like classics, different continents, countries, alphabet (author’s name), diversity, genre…. So may possibilities! But around the world will be included! Going to the tea staining video now.😊

I realize I'm very late to commenting on this -- but regarding your reading through history challenge -- I propose to you that if you go by the publication date of the particular imprint of a work that you read you'll never fill that tracker in unless you're reading cuneiform tablets in the British Museum. The original copyright date (or writing date for things that predate copyright) is more significant to my mind as far as understanding the context in which the work was produced anyway. Just a thought. Thank you so much for this video -- you've totally inspired me! I want to go back through in slow motion and see if there are any books you liked that I want to add to my list.

A recommendation for a translated portuguese book is Blindness by Jose Saramago. Saramago is, to this day, the only portuguese author to have ever earned a nobel literature prize (with this work, which has also gained an adaptation), and his writting has a very unique characteristic (won't say what cause you understand what it is as soon as you open a book, it does take some getting used to, but after a bit it just feels very natural)

Your journal is so lovely. Brava. I think its interesting that Braiding Sweetgrass won your Best Read of 2022 and yet it didn't place at all on your Favorites page (quote, character, scene, etc.) I just finished Braiding Sweetgrass and enjoyed it very much but it wouldn't have won the best of the year for me. But its definitely poetic, memorable, and important. I also recently attended an in-person lecture with Robin Wall Kimmerer which disappointed me. She didn't tell any of the stories from her book but rather ranted about social justice and land-back efforts. I'm not in disagreement with her position, and I agree with the idea that her gift is her ability to communicate to wide audiences through writing and lectures, but believe that telling her lived stories will change behavior in small and important ways. Most recently I read Hamnet (which I loved, 4 stars) and I'm a day away from finishing The Hobbit, my first Tolkien. In answer to your question below, yes, I have a Reading and Writing Journal but its not a work of art like yours. In it I track when I start a book and when I finish one. I also type and stick in the bookcover and my own comments about it. I want to handwrite it but I know I'll never go back and read it again if I handwrite it. So I type it. I do have a 23 in 2023 TBR and so far I'm doing okay with that list. I don't think I'll get to all of them. There are a couple on the list I've already lost interest in (Count of Monte Cristo, for example). I also keep a list of all poems, essays, or stories I write, where I've submitted and when, and how many words I've added to my journal on what days. Hopefully your writing project/s are progressing, too.

I would like to see a video of you doing stats! You don't even need to do a separate video - maybe you could incorporate a short segment in your next monthly reading wrap-up that shows you creating the figures and graphs Recommendation for a spread: This year I added a spread to my reading journal where I track how many books I bring in each month (buy, gifted, etc.) and how many books I read that I own. I am trying to make sure I either read more books that I own than I buy, or at least read an equal number of owned books as I buy. I'm definitely guilty of buying books and then reading a bunch of library books instead! Also - Deep Vellum is a great small publisher in Dallas if you're looking for translated works from different countries. There are several books that I've only ever seen translated into English by them. Might help with reading around the world.

I do not have a reading journal yet. I would like to start one, though, when I have more time. Maybe I’ll start in January of next year. I would enjoy any video about the process that you decide to put out. Btw, I enjoyed Project Hail Mary. I read it as a sci-fi comedy. I thought it was hilarious! Don’t hold it against me. Lol. I would recommend The Rosie Project for a quick, fun, comical read. I think the author is Aussie. I also like The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie, a bit of a murder mystery.

This is such an extensive reading journal! So many ideas, I'm looking to set one up for 2024 and this is really helpful. Do you preplan all the stats and "most/worst" for books at the start of the year when you're setting your reading journal up? Or do you come up with this more toward the end of the year? I'm wondering if you fill some of those in as you read them or wait till the end?

If you're going to continue your Read around the world challenge, then for Hungary, you NEED to read the Boys of Paul Street. It is just a heart wrenching story about school age boys who pretty much act out their own version of the communist situation their parents are in and that the country was in at the time. They take it a little too far and seriously and it's devastating and haunting, but at the same time a page turner. It's a study in childhood traumas, the country's bitter history, and family dynamics. It's an awesome story. I never read it translated as I'm Hungarian but I do hope it does it justice

My reading journal isn't like the "normal" ones.... I have a list of series I want to go through, the "master list" of books I want to read this year, the "extra books" that I read but are not part of the master list, a monthly spread with books from the "master list" for that month and the Angie way to get through them, and lastly stats from the month. And then it goes on with the monthly spreads, if it makes sense 😅 📚

I made this comment before finishing the video, and I see you read from Brazil :) we are living in a world that’s afraid of the world and most people are only interested in their our nation. As a person who loves the world it makes me very happy to find someone who is interested in other cultures, and not by traveling (which can me more of a display of materialism than actual interest, and cause more damage to the people than do any good) but by our thoughts and intellect :) you gained a new subscriber ❤

Sorry for bringing politics here (even though it's not even politics, it is just our culture), but you can't even imagine how heartwarming it was to see Ukraine filled in on the map instead of the t*rrorists. Our literature is often overlooked/not translated and it creates an impression that we do not have any, or we don't have any worth reading, which is simply not true. Even after millennia of trying to erase our language and steal our creations we have still managed to save incredible things. I have a lot to say about this, but I'll contain myself. One of my favourite works from our literature is "Intermezzo" by M.Kotsiubynsky. The imagery and symbolism never seize to make me feel at peace. Also your setup is incredibly detailed, it is so thought out and just very pretty. Thank you for sharing it!
