Because of this video I actually went out and bought a special edition version of The Crow that included every volume and I don't regret it. Thanks for helping me get into comic books!

I did enjoy it. I'm not too big into comics, but I think I'll get this series.

Gotta say thank you again, Chycho. The Crow is one of my all time favorite movies and I've always wanted to read this. RIP Brandon Lee, stolen from us way too soon.

This has definitely got me interested in reading the rest of the series and tracking down the movie. It's refreshing to see comics tackle such dark themes. You can really tell that James went the extra mile when creating this, true art if you ask me. Thank you so much for introducing me to this series.

Awesome! I love the Crow. Even though I've watched the film at least fifty times, I only this year ended up finally reading the original comic. I was totally blown away by it. I could not believe that I actually prefered it to the movie. I keep hearing the rumors that they are going to remake it, and if they do I hope they fallow the Comic Book more closely. As always Chycho, Fantastic Video!

+ginrummy0 Thanks brother and I hope they do as well if they do end up remaking it. I actually just watched the movie again, probably for the 4th time or so, after editing and uploading the video. Still holds up amazingly and still one of the best adaptations of a comic book series.

I finally was able to find my NM copies of the first prints...plus a caliber Christmas...I still have my 3d print readers though...plus the grendal series 1-3...ive enjoyed them very much...

My grade 9 English teacher had this comic series collected in one book. I read it in class and really loved it. If I remember correctly, James O'Barr worked on Dead World (another Caliber comic) with Vince Locke before working on The Crow.

+ButtsMcGeeson Cool, i didn't know he worked on deadworld as well. Something to track down. ...and awesome about having a teacher that exposed you to this series, now it would be super rare to have that happen, in Canada or the US anyway.

I live in Wilmington (where the Crow was filmed), and that incident is still talked about by folks in the industry down here. The original footage of that is locked away from the public (as it should be imo). I've never read the original comic, so thanks for doing this!

you know I love this story

I almost passed out watching this, such is the hypnotic nature of your voice. This is excellent. The Crow is up there with my favorite graphic novels. Actually, I should have met Brandon Lee. I got tickets to a Bruce Lee Convention in 1993 in Birmingham, UK. At the convention, we were told that Brandon had agreed to be special guest, but was not to be as he was killed just months earlier making The Crow. Terribly sad. I too remember the day it happened. I was woken up by my radio and it was on the news before I got out of bed. Being a huge Bruce Lee fan it make my heart sink and ruined my day, seeing the finished film was a tough task too, still is actually knowing what happened on that fateful day of March 31st 1993. Thanks for the reading, this is excellent. I'll check out your other work too. I have just got into collecting graphic novels, maybe I too will start my own channel in the not too distant future.

Sad day indeed, sad week actually, and for me as well, every time I watch the movie knowing what happened adds an extra layer of heaviness to the film. That family has definitely gone through some sad times :(

Yep, I totally agree, that's why as much as I love the movie, I have only really watched it a handful of times because it's a bit too heavy. Same with the graphic novel. I keep meaning to pick it up and read it again, as it is a masterpiece, but it has that really dark association that almost frightens me. Maybe I am just weird. I'll check out more of your comic reviews, and possibly ask for some recommendations as I am trying to transform my drinking into graphic novel collecting. Thanks for a great channel!

The complete Watchmen is 12 issues, and I definitely don't do complete readings of series. I consider these readings to be promo work, showing the beauty of comic books and the pure joy of reading them. I highly recommend reading the complete Watchmen series if you have the opportunity.

The story of Brandon's on-set death, is one of those Murphy's law, one in billion events. In the pawn shop/shooting scene the guy with the gun pulled the trigger. The gun was properly loaded with blanks but no one took the time to rod the barrel. The weapon was in fact a true, operable firearm. strangely enough there was a slug lodged in the barrel. Even with the low po wder charge in the blank to cause the projectile to exit the barrel w8ty enough velocity to kill Brandon.

I've loved The Crow since I was fourteen, thank you for this! I subscribed. Would you be interested in reading Transmetropolitan? It's such an amazing graphic novel series, a mishmash of science fiction tropes, and Gonzo journalism. I'd also just love to hear you read more poetry, or books, maybe a kid's book like The House with a Clock In Its Walls?

Love this stuff Chycho; I only have the graphic novel, but I've re-read it so often the covers are coming off. It's cool that you've got the actual issues. Actually, my wife and I went to the comic con here in Reno last year hoping to meet J. O'Barr, as he was on the bill, and then when we got there....he was a last-second cancellation. So that was disappointing. We managed to meet and get pics with Jason Mewes, of Jay and Silent Bob fame, so that almost made up for the loss. Are you a big Comic Con guy? I've only been to a few recently, the biggest being in Austin a few years back.

Thanks, brother. These books are definitely some of the prides in my collection. Love them and what James created. They are the perfect example of the best in comics. As for comic book conventions, I do attend when I can, but it's been less and less every year. My peak attendance was in the 90's. I started off going as a fan, then my collection was getting too huge so I started going as a seller, and finally when I got into publishing comic books I went as an independent publisher. I actually had a booth set-up in 1995 (or was it 1996?) at the Santiago Comic Con where I brought in almost all of the creators that were publishing under my company. They were amazing times indeed :)

Awesome. I went more in the 90s myself, when I was in junior high school. The scene was totally different then. Less cosplay chicas, more average nerdy guys like me! It was great though. Didn't know you'd been ok involved in publishing! That's killer! You have such a broad range of interests and knowledge; it's impressive. My scope is a bit, uh, narrower. :)

For sure, the scene was so different back then. Crazy how things have shifted. Love it all though :) As for my "scope", keep in mind that I am in my late 40's so I've had a lot more time to explore. That said, I have always been a "can do" type of person so whenever an idea or an opportunity came my way, if I thought it would be fun and cool to do I did it. Comic books publishing was one of them and it was one of the greatest decisions in my life. Learned a lot, had a lot of fun, made some amazing lifelong friends, and learned how to not run a business if you plan on being around for a while... lol :)

If i recall correctly we read the third print. The first print I show is near mint so I rather keep it that way, rare in that condition.

i bought this version but usps lost it -.- Not the original publisher but the 2nd one, so still an old copy. i now decided to finally just buy the new version or whatever with the white cover

I love the Punisher as well, haven't done any reading for him yet though, but have one planned for Reading Set #4, it's going to be "Marvel Preview Vol 1 #2 (August, 1975)", his first solo comic. If your interested in the truth about where James O'Barr originally got the idea for the comic book. James O'Barr did all of the Artwork and made up most of the story for the comic book on his own. But what he Didn't Create was the Main Character Erik; including look, abilities and back story. And there is also a reason why the fist issue is a portrait, and not like the other 3 issues; back ground, action, items. The First Issue is a watercolor painting O'Barr did of me from Oct. 31, 1988. He personally told me he had "stayed up all night doing it" the next day when he called to get more back ground info on me. I later realized his original idea was to do a comic about a real Halloween vigilantly. (I didn't kill people, I did hospitalize a few. I mostly saved people from getting raped, mugged or jumped.) This is what caused us to have a falling out. I did not give my image, idea or my own personal tragedy/back story to James O'Barr for free. As payment for using me to create this comic book I required him to dedicate the very first issue to Tammie Lynn Grimes. My friend, girlfriend and fellow 4H pantomime troop member. He didn't do this and has always been in breach of contract with me. James O'Barr is a liar and a thief. Even his publisher Gary Reed, founder of Caliber Comics has called him the biggest liar he is ever met. If you investigate people that have known James O'Barr's you will find this to be true. Mark Bloodworth from caliber comics said that he takes everything James O'Barr says with a grain of salt; his statement from a video on my channel. James O'Barr also sold the movie rights to my consent while I was serving our country overseas in Japan during the Gulf War. @@chycho Don't know if you ever knew about it but there is also a soundtrack by Fear and Bullets. There is a rare 1994 Cd that was packed with the 1st graphic novel collection and later a remix in 1999. I think the only other Crow comic that James O' Barr ever made himself was The Crow: Dead Time. All the others were other comic book writers and artist

+Peter Kay Love Heavy Metal and at one time I had a large collection from the 1980's when I was buying them as a kid, but lost a large box during a move.... poop! :( ... I still have a few issues from the late 80's and some from the 90's kicking around. I have read some of Moebius' work but I really don't know if I have those issues or not. I will keep an eye out for them though. As for European comics, for sure I have some but no where near as many as US. I do have some of the British books, love Simon Bisley's art as well as the writings of many of the Vertigo and pre-Vertigo creators... Judge Dredd, oh my oh my :) The most recent European book I read was Snowpiercer (Le Transperceneige) Vol. #1 and Vol #2. Absolutely amazing, and I also highly recommend the movie if you haven't seen it.

+chycho shame about the heavy metal collection you had if I lost any part of my collection I think I'd miserable forever haha you should look at some of Alejandro jodorowskys comic books he has worked with Moebius a fair bit and I haven't heard of that I'll deffinatly look it up keep up the videos man there a great treat every time I watch them thank you :)

+Peter Kay Oh for sure I've come across some of Jodorowsky's work, mainly in Heavy Metal or course. Totally slipped my mind to put his name on my to read/make videos list. Thanks for this, adding him to my list now. On that note, if I had a time machine I'd go back in time and somehow make it so that we would have seen a feature film on Dune made by Jodorowsky... we can only dream.

how can you tell the difference between printing...the way I understand it...if it's the third it will show the years of the ones previously published...and if its a first printing it won't...will a first printing indicate that it's a first printing? I guess that is my question

I think that only works for books, when the show the years of the previous printing. To find out which printing it is for comics look at the fine print info, usually on the bottom of either the back of the front cover or the first page. They usually indicate which rinting it is. For newer books that have the bar code, the last number usually tells you which printing you have. If it ends with a 1, it's a first print. A 2 is a second print, 3 third print, etc.

Fantastic! Inspired by The Crow as well. That was one of the best AMV (I don't know what the equivalent for live action film is, music videos) set to film I've ever seen. Totally hypnotic. Did you also edit the video? As for me. I heard the news when I was in a comic book store as it happened. Everyone in the store just stopped cold and after a second of silence we all started talking about it for a long time. It was the main discussion in the store for the next few weeks as more info was coming out. Many of us thought that there was a lot more to the story then what we were being told.

The news has been confirmed with individuals close to Reed's family. "Born in Detroit, Michigan, Reed first entered the comic book industry as a retailer - at one point owning a chain of four stores in Michigan. While working full-time as a retailer, Reed ran his own King Kin Comic & Fantasy convention for three years while also balancing a weekly radio show and public-access television program. "Caliber Comics was launched by Reed in 1989, becoming a major independent publisher featuring titles such as The Crow, Deadworld, Negative Burn, and the early works of writer/artist Brian Michael Bendis. It was here that Reed also published his own Baker Street title, illustrated by Guy Davis. In 2000, Reed closed Caliber and sold the remainder of his comic book store chain, seguing to a career as a college professor teaching biology. "In 2005, Reed returned to comic books with a new Deadworld series with Desperado - then publishing under Image Comics' banner. The writer revived several other Caliber titles in that time, and in 2007 established a new comic book company with Rafael Nieves called Transfuzion Publishing. That company eventually segued into the re-establishment of Caliber Comics in 2014. "Reed is survived by his wife, Jennifer, and four daughters."

Don't think I'll be reading #2, there are so many amazing books to read and this reading is sort of an incentive for people to read the rest of the series.

I’ve met James O’Barr and I actually have some of his original art signed and that signature is a fake and a bad fake at that. You were ripped off whatever you paid for it.
