Reading and Northern Jeddo Turn 20 Years
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
It's been 20 years since I last chased a Jeddo Turn on the Reading and Northern, until today (8/4/2013). Back in 1993 the power was U-Boats and CF-7's. Today it was SD50's. The vintage footage shows a chase from Lofty to South Tamaqua. Today we went the opposite way from Port Clinton to Hazleton. A lot of the old shots are either grown in or inaccessible, so today we went for the easy ones. Enjoy!

Enjoyed your video- great camera work
Great video, super sound.
LOL, I was way off. The funny thing is I should have recognized that. Good stuff, will check it out. I worked on the NZ railways from 1976 to 1989 before coming over here. Had baby EMD's over there and Crap GE stuff. I was a switchman. Thanks for the videos
awesome video
Great horn!
Love the sounds at 8.22, are they all GP38"s and if so, do you have the full version of that part of the clip or any others with that 567 sound in mid to high notches
What horn is on 5022?
Now if they could get passenger service from Phila to Reading. Even if only once a day.
Times sure have changed.
i like the colors up here in indiana we got ns genees wyoming csx
Ice but it would be better if 5022 should go in the front
Some reason I think RBMN 5049 has the best horn on RBMN RR but I also think RBMN 5017 Has a similar horn to 5049 because sense I live in pittston pa from June 21-July 16 they were using 5049 everyday then from July 17-August 25 they were using 5017 and I would chase them everyday and their horns are similar but 5017 has more a squicky horn and then after August 25 they started using 5049 again and they still are I heard it pull out at 9:00 pm tonight but so I haven't seen them use a SD40-2 sense June but it's fun watching SD50's for a change
Do the SD50s actually have a non-turbo 567 in them? I thought most were rebuilt with a 16-645.

The original engine in the SD50 series was a 16-645. If you are talking about the NS units, they are SD50M's with turbo 645's in them. The normally aspirated EMD you are hearing is a GP38, also with a 645, that is tucked in behind the SD50's. Putting a 567 in an SD50 would be expensive and derate the unit to about half its original HP. It just wouldn't make economic sense.

Ah so its a turbocharged 16-645 in pretty much every SD50 the RBMN has then. I thought it sounded more like a 567 at one point, thanks for clearing that up though.
6:10 The engines have fresh paint on them. Don't they?

Not really. There's no shine to the finish, the gray hood areas have soot stains at the seams, and the trucks are quite weathered.
5022 > 5049 = more better engine
