    Excellent video, thanks for posting. IMHO it is a great shame rolex are not producing quartz watches today for those of us living in the 21st century. Maybe it is harder to buy out a pre-existing quartz watch manufacturer than it would appear...

    Yes, I've seen quite a few expensive quartz watches where the hand drifts in and out of alignment. I guess the issue is the dial needs to be printed perfectly concentrically with the axis of the hand.

    As you did mention,....others have also mentioned how this partucular manufacturer is very cagey with allowing even quality watchmakers to do any sort of work on their product. Shame though, because there are so many vintage and antique movements out there that require parts that are so stringently guarded by this manufacturer that its nearly impossible to get them going. I myself have 2 very beautiful ladies watches that i need certain parts,...ladies watches arent that "water resistant" especially fron the 20's and 30's and any good watchperson would know what parts im talking about. Anyway, rant over. Great job Matt as usual. Thanks. Mike.♥️👍🏼👍🏿

    This isn't even my watch and I imagined how grateful the owner will be when they see this video. The care and dedication are captivating to watch. I appreciate the meticulous level of work you brought to a battery change! I am so glad I found your channel. I would love to see your version of what you would suggest for tools and where to start when learning to repair watches. I am open to advice and want to be patient (and joyful) in my approach to watchmaking. I acknowledge my limitation will always be my inability to actually make replacement parts. However, I am patient enough to source a broken piece and learn from those who love fixing these pieces of mechanical art as much as I do. Keep these videos coming!

    Do you know how many years Rolex has been manufacturing spare parts for this caliber and, on the other hand, what is the useful life of the electronic module of this model?

  • @readrepairs

    @readrepairs

    4 ай бұрын

    Good questions to which I dont know the answers I'm afraid. I would say the useful life of the electronics doesn't differ from regular electronics so very broadly 50 years I would guess. What almost always damages these watches - and it happened to the one I worked on - is the watches went out of fashion for some years/decades and many were left with the cells in which leaked. Of course, lack of water-resistance would also quickly damage the electronics. I think those two factors are almost always the reasons for failure, not age per-se. M

    Keep it. They are still relatively undervalued. They will in future be very rare so will only increase in value. If you dont want to wear it, just have the battery removed for dry storage. Unlike a fully mechanical watch, the loads are so tiny not having it serviced is unlikely to cause any damage. Regular battery replacement though is essential or have the battery removed. @@juancarloskalfaian2977

    I went to a Rolex boutique last week to have my battery changed. After couple of days after they call me saying that all is good, the watch is ready to pickup. After 5 days I arrive to the shop for pickup and when they give it to me it is not moving. The salesman was surprised and said “it is probably broken”. Now I have a watch not moving and an invoice saying: battery replaced, watch checked and impermeable. What should I do now? What is your opinion? The watch is in perfect conditions and was running exceptionally since many years before running out of battery.

  • @readrepairs

    @readrepairs

    How long ago had the old battery expired? Was that boutique a Rolex Authorised Dealer or Rolex authorised service centre? If it was, I would just return it and ask for a written report of the faults/fault. If you feel it is unreasonable, take legal advice of how/if to pursue a claim. If it was not a Rolex authorised centre, take the watch to a Rolex authorised service centre and ask them to prepare a written report (you may have to pay for this). Then you can decide whether to take legal advice of how to pursue. One of the major issues with these watches is the cell (battery) being left in the watch once it has discharged. That had happened to the one I worked on. Get everything in writing. Hope this helps. Matthew. If the centre was independent, they may be a member of a professional body, in which case, if things are not resolved to your satisfaction, you make approach them for advice.

    hi thanks for the reply. The previous battery lasted a few years and expired 1 month ago. I brought for a replacement about 2-3 weeks after it stopped. It was an authorized dealer, they did the replacement in the shop but they don’t service watches there, they send them to another center. They won’t even give me a report of the problem without sending it to the other center. I have a trusted service center but I am abroad for a few months. I might take it there later as you suggested.
