Change first then go in not the other way round. BJK is being surprisingly naive if she thinks this will change the country for the better. Disappointed in Nadal, one of my favourite players. How much more money does he need?

Boycott, do not watch! Even this exhibiton with the top male players, after Sept. tennis is really over. US OPen slam is done. These same players complain about how long the season is and all that, but they are willing to just add something more to their plate if the price is right. Some tennis fans do not care about the year end finals.

True, but they've persecuted their own people (men and women) far more than Saudi and restricted the amount of children women could have issuing forced abortions so I don't think we can clearly put them above Saudi in the moral compass.

Why would players object to this? They are not likely to be beheaded, if they are not gay or if they keep it in secret, and I assume they don't possess the witchcraft either (but If I were them, I would avoid too many trick shots on court).

"...due to the repression of free speech..." are you kidding me?? We suffer from woke fascism and political correctness, where anything we say can be misconstrued as hate speech and punished, yet we criticise other countries for the same thing? To play or not to play? There's a simple solution. You wanna play, go - you don't wanna play, don't go. Problem solved.

@@andehbridget1861 Not true. The event in Mexico had issues, but the WTA does not attract the audience that the ATPS does. WTA held in Texas , low attendance. Hopefully, the Saudi's lose money with this. BTW , What is in Saudi Arabia , people can't even buy a beer. Sporting events make money from alcohol sales and WTA matches are so boring at times, and fustrating that a drink is necessary. lmao

Equal rights should always be considered over a little more money. So after they give you the money ,you know you can’t drive, walk down the street with your hair without a scarf or speak to other men.

For an increase from $9 million to $15 million in prize money they are selling women’s tennis to Riyadh? That is not a huge jump in finances for tennis in general as this was billed to be. If Saudi Arabia is interested in promoting tennis, let them put on a small 250 tournament first, develop the game there, and pay their dues in developing the game. They have hardly any players there at all. It stinks that they get to start with the year-end finals just for a few dollars. The countries that are passionate about tennis should be given the tournament instead. How about the Czech Republic? They have so many players. I am not interested in watching the money game. They forget that for all of us fans tennis is a SPORT, not just a BUSINESS.

I'm glad that Chris and Martina lost, given that no other WTA current and former players have complained about this. I'm guessing the WTA Finals organizers will shed no tears that Chris, Martina and their MAGA supporters will not be turning up to the WTA Finals.

So if Kasatkina finally makes the WTA finals, will she be allowed to play by the Saudis in their country? The criminalize homosexuality. This is just one reason why this was a bad decision for the WTA.

That's a good point. And can her partner come with her, and stay in the same hotel room? I suppose there's an argument that having contact (trade, sports) with repressive regimes gives one the opportunity to influence those regimes ... but does it really result in any substantial change, or is it just sports-washing, as they say.

Is Daria going there to play tennis or going to showcase her sexuality? She knows best where to draw the line in another man’s country. Her and her partner can go freely with no obstacles as long as they keep their sexuality in their bedroom before leaving the hotel

Saudi Arabia maintains that acts of homosexuality should be disciplined in the same way as adultery - with death by stoning. Homosexuality or nonconformant gender expression can also be punished by corporal punishment, flogging, imprisonment or forced ‘conversion’ therapy.

Total sellout, and the women players going along with it. I am disgusted with them. They really do not attract a large audience. I've observed the lack of attendance in Dubai, and the other Arab nation . No deal is going to force Arab nations to do anything. I am not watching that event. Never forget how the Saudi's had terrorist drive planes into the World Trade Center! Truly a shame.

I think it's s sell out. For the sake of 3 million dollars more in purse money we are willing to allow the Saudi's to own woman's tennis? How much of this will benefit up and coming players, very little I expect. It cost a fortune to travel and stay there and I have to think train there? I am ashamed of Rafa selling out as well. I have traveled internationally to see major tournaments, Australian Open, Italian open and Barcelona, Monte Carlo. I for one will not travel there or very likely watch it on TV. When will the Saudi's ever enter the 20th Century let alone the 21st?

@@andehbridget1861 Those competing in the Finals tournament are not the struggling WTA player. We do not know if the Saudi's will do a better job. There is always something to complain about. The women seem to do a lot of it, and really do not bring in the numbers in other events. So many held throughout the year, and the stands are hardly to capacity and sometimes embarassingly sparse.
