This song spoke to me. Covert narcissistic abuse has followed me from childhood thru adulthood before I finally woke up and educated myself on what it was. I appreciate it being addressed thru music. I discovered that the experience speaks to so many who often have their voices oppressed for long periods of time. The MV is about an abusive relationship with a narcissist. Through the lyrics we find out he controls her life, he makes her think he's the only one in the world who understands and puts up with her, he makes it seem like it's all her fault. This narcissist is called NAR. In the beginning of the video, snippets of texts as if pages of a notebook quickly flash on the screen. What we first learn about NAR is, "NAR, when you flipped over the chair, the frame, the books next to the television, and even the vases in the kitchen. I was like, is this really a perfect world? I don't know. It's so confusing. I need to turn the light off". The MV seems to start after this happened as we can see NAR straightening the book and vases. This violent outburst made Taeyeon question the relationship: "is this really a perfect world?" CIS, the house, the relationship The house, the photos and the world being upside down symbolize the relationship. How NAR makes it all seem normal even though an outside viewer can immediately see it's wrong. Taeyeon has fallen into believing that it's normal that the world is upside down, that the relationship is normal. This interpretation is also backed by the text in the beginning: "Yeah, you're right. I think the world flipped upside down is beautiful. I believe". That's why towards the end NAR forces Taeyeon to watch the city upside down, trying to force her back into his lies when she starts to see the truth in the relationship. SIS, the crystal ball, the help The crystal ball helps Taeyeon see this truth. When she looks through it, it shows her the upside down world the right side up again. It helps her see the relationship through the eyes of someone else. The first notebook page in the beginning says, "When I got the crystal ball, I decided to call it 'SIS'. Is this what having a sister feels like? I rely on her more and more". This makes me think the crystal ball symbolizes someone, a person, who helps Taeyeon out of the abusive relationship. NARCISSIST The letters CIS and SIS keep appearing here and there over the music video. They are the little signs in the relationship, the red flags. By themselves they don't mean much and might even go unnoticed. But when the truth finally comes out, thinking back the signs were always there. Taeyeon puts all these pieces together in the end when she pulls out the before partly hidden word 'NARCISSIST', revealing the true nature of NAR, and burns down the house, ending the relationship.

After watching your reaction, this is what I put together. 1. Nar the boyfriend flips the chairs, pictures and vases. can be taken as a show of violence or if taken literally, everything in the house is upside down. Taeyeon thinks hey this isn't right, I need to turn off the lights (gaslight). 2 Cis the house is the security and comfort of being in a relationship, (but its upside down) 3 Sis is the crystal ball which I think was given to her by Nar as a gift which was the lens that made the upside down relationship look right ("but he gives me gifts and compliments me". Later when she's outside in the real world looking through that lens she realizes everything is upside down and drops the ball/lens and realizes the road she's on doesn't go anywhere. 4 Nar gives a final desperate attempt to brainwash her at the end "look the world is supposed be upside down". But it's too late and she burns the nar cis sis from her life leaving only the ... T - Taeyeon

I am curious if anyone has said it already, but what makes the music in this song so alluring is the fact that they used seventh chords and one-ninth chords. These chords can sound as if something else is coming ... like the song is not finished ...

That weird sound, kind of sounds like frogs or those little wooden frog-shaped instruments, which reminds me of the story of the frog slowly and gradually being boiled in the pot. But that might be a stretch.

Ngl I'm a bit dissapointed in this entire album after waiting 2 years since INVU. All her previous albums were AOTY contender for me, but this was shockingly forgettable. Which is crazy since I generally would say I'd listen to any song, as long as Taeyeon sings it

I think this may not but the type that seize you at the frist listening, but it is actually perfect for listening over and over again, during which I can feel the bittersweet about love. I mean the whole album.
