The people from Laihia are known for being very frugal and stingy (I'm not from around there so I can't say how accurate that is) and the guy in this skit takes it to the extreme. There are a lot of jokes about how stingy the Laihians are. They don't seem to mind and there is actually a Museum of Stinginess in Laihia.

@@Blessing_ReactsThis stereotype supposedly started in 1886-1887 when there was great famine in the region of Finland were Laihia is located. There was food sharing schemes among the different towns in the region, but people from Laihia didn't participitate and just shared the food between themselves. As a result, they have been told jokes about stingy laihians for ~137 years😅

The socio-economical situation was terrible in those years (also in other European countries). Families were forced to leave their homes if there were nothing to eat anymore. Too sick or old family members were left behind to dye. People were wondering house to house hoping to get something to eat. This exposed many kind of cruelty and abuse. Especially women where sexually abused for a piece of bred for their hungry children. Very bad times! I’m not so sure is this history season really the reason for jokes of stinginess of Laihian people.
