James Hetfield said this song was inspired by his upbringing in a devoutly religious family and the pain of having his father leave when he was 13. He tried to please everyone at the expense of himself. Only later in life to blame everyone else. Instead of looking inward. I am 4 years older than James, but my early life paralleled his in many ways. Great song. Knocked me out when I first heard it. RNB
