I am Pole and I can say that Allegro made great job with these short films. That's a shame there isn't more of that :/

Katedra to cudo!!!

I am Polish and already in kindergarten I heard the legend of Twardowski, who tricked the Devil and escaped from the pact on a rooster to the moon. I really like the whole Legendy Polskie project. Already in 2002, Mr. Bagiński showed what he can do with the film "Cathedral". The rest of the whole series is even better and this music of my youth recorded once again. 30+ knows these songs by heart.

When I saw this series for a first time my jaw dropped, happy you like it! Unfortunately for you some of a references in the movie and especially language used is practically impossible to translate to any foreign language to full extend, so if you like to imagine joy of a watching this movie for a Pole just double what you felt :)

The credits soundtrack is a cover of "Aleja gwiazd" performed by Zdzislawa Sosnicka - an absolute gem of a singer (lyrics: Marek Dutkiewicz, music: Romuald Lipko).

The great Polish actor, Piotr Machalica, who portrayed Rokita in the movie, passed away three years ago. :( May he rest in peace.

According to the legend, Boruta was a human, a nobleman from Łęczyca, who was evil and very cruel towards the people. When he died and went to hell, Lucifer, in recognition of his merits, made him a devil, the superior of all devils in Poland. Boruta usually tempted the nobles. The devil Rokita, his servant tempted the peasants. Before the adoption of Christianity by Poland, Boruta was a forest deity, then in beliefs and legends he turned into a devil. The story of the devil Lucy is explained in the music video Legendy Polskie. Aleja Gwiazd.

Actually Rokita here looks more like a Noble Devil while Boruta is a simpleton that was put in a position of power.

Likely inspired by treatment of political opponents by pagan King Popiel, rivalled only by later Christian prince of Wallachia, Vlad Tepes (better known as 'Vlad The Impaler' and literary inspiration of Stoker's Dracula)

First song Klaus Mitffoch flom long play "Klaus Mitffoch" band with Lech Janerka "Jezu jak się cieszę". After 30 years the music is still good to listen to and the lyrics are interesting and not stupid. I only assume that the fourth actor, the legendary Piotr Machalica, was chosen for this role (Devil Rokita) because of his resemblance to the then well-known Polish politician Jan Maria Rokita. Seeing this politician, many people shouted "Jesus! Maria Rokita!".

Another funny detail is...Raczki where Lucy landed is the lowest polish village lying in land depression...closest to hell.

Sooo the actor who plays Twardowsky is Robert Więckiewicz and I think you would like the movie "Vinci" (2004) where he plays an art thief. The humour is pretty similar.

What only polish audience can really appreciate is most of the songs are either old gems - original songs by loved artists or really nice covers of such songs. There's no accident in the choice of songs, which add to all other little touches you noticed yourself. Also - the old computer and IT illiteracy of Boruta is a caricature of polish administration. Apparently even in hell it looks like this😅

I love how you put so much effort into understanding the story, great reaction of yours.

Tomek Baginski, who was the main person responsible for the cinematography and CGI in all the Legendy Allegro shorts was bought by Netflix to work on The Witcher series soon after Twardowsky 2.0. so for now plans of making a full-time Twardowsky movie are on hold.

If only Bagiński make continuation... "Twardovsky 3.14" was supposed to be a movie that would sum everything up, but Bagiński took care of The Witcher.

The DP on this was Łukasz Żal - he’s done „Ida” - polish film - An Academy Award winter for best foreign movie from 2013. The score contains a cross section of best polish pop/ rock songs from 60’s, 70’s and 80’s - some in original and some in cover versions. And main character is played by Robert Wieckiewicz - polish A - list actor with very wide range.

In its time, it was an unparalleled formation. Imagine 1000 of the heaviest horses in armor on a par with a rider armed with a long lance rushing at you at a gallop, developing precise formation. It didn't matter who and what was in the way - the effects were similar to a tornado. The informal name of this formation, Riders of the Devil, quickly appeared. This scene suggests that they were actually devil's emissaries :)

The Devil Woman Aleksandra Kasprzyk is amazing, she is a model and a youtuber, she is funny and interesting :) To me it's important she's of Silesian descent (a semi-separate etnic polish group, historically separate duchy with their own rulers and kind of different language being mixture of polish, czech and german). Just a piece of trivia for you :)

Nie pisz Oskar, bo nikt tego nie zrozumie niestety w UK, czy USA. To się nazywa the Academy Awards. Tylko w Polsce i jeszcze gdzieś używa się nazwy własnej samej statuetki. Co zabawne w USA i gdzie indziej prawie nikt nie wie jak nazywa się statuetka. To jest jak z tłumaczeniami tytułów na język Polski 🤣🤣🤣😂

yea, just sad that it will never be as good if done by voice actors in a different language. Also i am not sure if there are subtitles for this, or if it is just audio.

oglądałem wszystkie produkcje allegro i każda jest absolutnie rewelacyjna. nie wiem dlaczego zaprzestali, mogę się domyślać, że o budżet tu chodzi. Bo te filmy powstały z pasji a nie dla chęci wzbogacenia się. może zabrakło sponsorów może inne czynniki zadziałały tego ja się nie dowiem. Ale czekam z zaciekawieniem na każdy kolejny film

Minute 1:04 and I hear "meteor dupnął". It's only 9 P.M. and my sense of humour goes crazy.

You need a cultural context - in Poland we have a saying "where the devil can't, there he will send a woman". That's probably why the devil sent Lucynka ;) Twardowski is such a stereotypical Polish man - a charmer and a cunning man.

She's immortal, a demon, so yeah, she's still alive 😁

This was Bagiński before netflix witcher. Now just imaginte REAL Witcher made this way..

I strongly recommend watching music videos from Legendy Polskie, they are new adaptations of songs from the 70s, 80s accompanied by great quality video clips.

"Potop" ("The Deluge" - 1974) is much better than "Ogniem i mieczem".

I watched it over a hundred times at least, and only now I saw that at the end the lucyna is attached to the ship.

The classic of polish sience fiction and comedy will be for me Seksmisja by Machulski. Two men are put in hibernation for 2 years and are wake up decades later in world were whole society live underground ......with twist. This is really old movie but it keep up, and it is pure joy to watch. And for sure have english subtitle.

There was supposed to be a feature length Twardowsky 3.14 but it got cancelled. Probably due to Bagiński working on the butchering of The Witcher with Netflix.

My, my :) Indeed this is a great job :) The story is multi-level. At one level it is a great come back of old Slavic stories with roots reaching deeply to pre-christian times of Poland. On the other hand it includes a lot of references to the newest history. The shape of the ship - a pentagram based star is not only the symbol of a devil. It is a symbol of evil that for many years attacked Poland - it is identical with russian star (shape+red edges as an additional suggestion). See also in the next part ("Smok/the Dragon") the markings on the drone-ship of "Adolf Kamchatkov" (both russian and german symbols + name Adolf should be easily understood, as well as "Kamchatkov" - this is reference to someone from russia). Finally, the serie is not only a journey of the main character Twardovsky. It is also a journey of the viewer who is taken from the christian-based view of the organization of the "hell" to the original, Slavic-one. So initially Boruta is presented only as a chief-main devil in the hell (one God-one devil duality idea). And in further parts hints are given (see "Jaga") that there are also other ancient gods like e.g. Piorun (Thunder) and that Boruta is in fact a little devil who should take care of the woods ("Bor" is a core of the polish word related to big old forest, and Boruta greets Jaga with words "Wiewiórki i bobry, dzień dobry, dzień dobry" - this means "good day, good day for squirrels and beavers"). Poland is rising. From red and black occupation. The final film should appear when the time will be right. I don't know did you had a chance to watch a legendary movie "2001: A Space Odyssey" of Stanley Kubrick from 1968. Until this days there is almost no movie which can be compared to this masterpiece when it comes to special effects and scenography. I strongly recommend to watch. A next good movie from Legendy Polskie series to watch is "Jaga". I think it will be best choice.
