Ihmisten puolue ie. people's party is an old politics satire. All members of the party are from different side of politic field and have a bit of extreme opinions from each side. When you put those together, it sounds funny, but you can read exactly same kind of talk in Twitter every day.

More literally "Human's Party." People's party would be "Kansan Puolue" and just sounds quite CCCP and quite wrong. xD

Finland has a something like "harmful tax" on alcohol and tobacco. Not sure how it actually translates. I'm sure it's not a unique idea but our alcohol and tobacco products are taxed way higher than other products under VAT. Idea being since they are harmful to the public health. So the joke is a play on the fact, that the most productive tax payer in Finnish society is a construction worker who drives a car, smokes a lot, drinks every weekend and dies just around 60.

I consider Ihmisten puolue a Finnish classic, it's often very cleverly written. Really interesting to see your reactions to it! There's quite a lot of subtleties involved, but that's probably always the case with political comedy.

The creator of this show, Atte Järvinen said not long ago, that he would not do this anymore, because nowadays this show is too close to real politics. :) By the way, these topics they comment are from real news. They always gathered political topics from last week or so, and made a show about those. To answer your question, the show is always from the same room. There are a few episodes where happens something more than the regular conversation, best example is episode Pikkujoulut.

I think this is one of the best comedy shows in Finland ever and definitely the best political satire ever. The writing is pure genius. The people around the table represent the political parties in Finland quite effectively. One is right wing, one is a populist, one is a left wing representative and one for the green party. It's now nearly 20 years old but in many ways still valid and current.

I think the funniest part is the end of the episodes, where they sum up the conversation, and the chairman desperately tries to tell that these are absolutely horrible and senseless opinions and points, but gets run over over by everyone else demanding that these are the points that need to be broadcasted to the public.

The comedy is in these people saying aloud what politicians and public administrators are actually thinking when they're grappling with the reality of the rising cost of healthcare and underfunded pension systems. The dynamic between the characters, the acting as well as the script are pretty good here. This is one of the more high brow of the political satire shows out there thanks to the script constantly throwing logical paradoxes at the viewer.

In this sketch, they touch a subtle point (sort of reverse psychology), that if you want to get back in black - make sure to live a very long and healthy life. It's the only way to stick it to the man! :D

One trending option is to raise the retirement age. Two of these are sketches and one is real life footage, but which one is the real life one?: a) "Finnish Sauna: Expectations vs Reality" b) "Korroosio - Juhannus" c) "Vloskin Meanwhile in Finland".

I loved this show. The best one was perhaps nettikeskustelu, or internet discussion. The guy with glasses, Kari Hietalahti, used to be in Vintiöt, a comedy show in 90's worth watching. Taneli Mäkelä, the head of the party, was in Team Ahma, a sort of comedy, maybe a bit of drama, where two guys were working on road service. Also 90's show, was very loved, people still say "turvallista matkaa (have a safe journey)" in a certain way after those guys. And Mari Perankoski is in Kontio & Parmas. All great actors. A bit of background to this sketch: the character Tapsa, the leader, is a master of science and rather right wing. Topi-Petteri (the one with glasses) is an entrepreneur. Päivi (the fashionable blonde) is a hairdresser, Hannes - the big guy - is I believe unemployed and rather communist and Regina is stay at home mom as I recall. This sketch is also classic politics, none of the members of parliament dare to speak up about why the people, especially poor, feel such a need to drink alcohol. They are more willing to ban alcohol than touch on why their daily life and jobs are so taxing on mental and physical health. But they do recognize the problem where banning alcohol, or at least making it more difficult to buy, greatly hurts the tax economy so they have to come up with new taxes that hit the poor families and singles. You can actually see similar way of thinking right now in Finnish politics. They realized that if people actually stop driving combustion engine cars as much due to the guidance and green taxes, the tax economy will be in deep shit. So they had to start coming up with electrical car taxes and other taxes that hit the poor people. At the same time they made taxing lighter in many ways for people with money. They even thought about raising the food tax which is usually the tax that helps balance it out, because majority of poor people's income goes to food and rent while the more well off people it doesn't matter what food costs because they can enjoy it. But everyone has to buy for food so raising the food tax is easy pennies in the treasury chest. They also brought and will bring more alcohol products to grocery stores, which means the government monopoly alcohol store gets less income and the grocery store chains that did nice profit during the time when people were really economically struggling due to covid and war in Ukraine will get more income that doesn't come to the government treasury chest. Also Finns have been drinking less alcohol and smoking less tobacco in the last decade or two, so that also pushes the government to start taxing other things. It's rarely for the good of everyone, it's just something that is acceptable to punish for tax money. And our population indeed is backwards at the moment and the society does suffer from it, how increasingly many people need retirement homes and health services and diminishing amount of people are in the working age (or employed) paying for it all. Sorry about a small rant! Just goes to show how extremely realistic, despite satirical/caricaturising, the show is! They really speak about real things and someone thought about it. Like they can speak directly what they think because it's a comedy show, but it's not at all false, they just don't need to dress it up in a diplomatic way to keep the voters and present it as something good to them.

This is a bit poorly thought out sketch if you ask me, its like giving pain killers for cancer, you should not be treating only the symptoms, but instead attempt to cure the disease. So, what is the reason people drink so much alcohol? We should not make people unable to afford alcohol, but instead make it less appealing, people who have their lives under control are not alcoholics.
