Here come the Vultures - Delain🤟🏻

Charlotte Wessels has such a unique voice. It’s very ethereal and other worldly. It definitely sets Delain apart from other bands. She has a Patreon where she releases a song a month, songs that might not work with Delain. They do have a pretty good size catalogue so where to direct you/suggest to you, depends on if you want more live or more studio. They did do a 10 year anniversary show a few years ago that was released, Live at Paradiso. Charlotte is good friends with Alissa White-Gluz and have collaborated with the band a few times. So I would recommend either Hands of Gold and Tragedy of Commons. Same with Marco. You can find him also on The Gathering (which is a beautiful song). The new album is lovely, but if I had to suggest I would alway recommend my favorite song which is The Glory and the Scum. Okay. That’s it. Have a damn good day! Edit: as I listen to Live At Paradiso, I remember Marco has done a lot of vocals work with Delain...A LOT.

The Live At Paradiso DVD is such a great piece which I come back to more often than the Live at Wacken Nightwish or Arch Enemy DVD (although all three are my most favorite live DVDs). Btw according to his Biography Marco was working with them and helping them shpe the direction the band was going, so that's why there are a lot of features of him with this Band.

That whole album is stellar, yes... although, they sure had some nerve to release an album on the dawn of COVID and call it "Apocalypse and Chill"! XD

I've seen Delain a couple times now, but most recently with Amorphis and Anneke doing solo stuff. They were really awesome and I especially loved hearing this one live - Charlotte killed it!

Definitely recommend their songs Burning Bridges and Suckerpunch!

Congrats on the 40k Chase, so well deserved!! This song well and truly blew me away when I first heard it, Charlotte's absolutely stunning vocals just killed me and made me fall more in love with Delain. It still gives me goosebumps to this day!

The keyboard player who started the band with Charlotte, Martijn Westerholt is the brother of Robert Westerholt from Within Temption (Martin also played keyboard for Within Temptaion for a while).

Chase, first off, congratulations on 40k, and when I saw what your reaction to was, I was like Yes, finally doing Masters of Destiny and I said to myself you are gonna be like me, falling in love with this song and Charlotte. This was the 2nd song I heard from Delain when I discovered them so my suggestion for the next song "has" 😉 to be the very first song that introduced me to them, Burning Bridges, and there's even a little cute growl from Charlotte too. Delain playlist here we come and you're gonna love it, trust me, welcome to the Delain train my friend

I have not seen you do any of the new Delaine which is coming out with an album on February 10th and they've already released three songs with a new singer and with the original original and lead guitar along with the founder the keyboardist. I think the name of their album is Dark Waters, and Marco H is a gurst on one of the songs. I love the pretty voice on their new lead singer, Diana Leah.

I first heard Charlotte doing "Under Grey Skies" with Kamelot. Tommy is one of the few who can match her. Highly recommend!

She's amazing! You should totally check her other duos with Marco!

Charlotte doesn't quite have the force of Floor or Simone, but love how she plays with her belt, mix, and head voices. I would VERY strongly recommend Hands of Gold and Tragedy of The Commons with Alissa White-Gluz (live, if you can). They compliment each other SO well.

Oh my god, I love this reaction so much my friend. Reason is, Delain was actually the second Symphonic Metal Band I was introduced to because of Marko, and I instantly fell in love with Martijn and Charlottes style of song writting. Great Band, Great reaction. Simply awesome Chase!

I love seeing yet another awesome symphonic metal band added to the list. What's even better is that there's quite a few of such bands still left! Therion, Xandria, Haggard, Avantasia, Blackbriar (to name a few)...the list goes on and on.

You did it again chase!! Some of their earlier songs are also great. See me in shadow (also accoustic) and silhouette of a dancer ( also accoustic) both are great. Hope to see them live again soon, great shows. Keep up the good work

This is a great song to react to by them. I was not expecting this reaction but I'm really glad you did it! As someone who's followed Delain's music since April Rain, I have to say this song is one of their best for me. Their most recent album is amazing!

If you want to hear more of her singing i can tip you about a band called Phantasma. It was a project sort of thing and theres just one album. Its called The Deviant Hearts. Its amazing. The song titled after the album is sooo good!

Thank you Chase for reacting to this song!!! Delain is my favorite band, and Masters of Destiny is my all time favorite symphonic metal song, so I thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated this one. You just made my week, and I know I'll be watching this reaction again! As always, I love how you are able to point out little details in a song that I haven't noticed before. I will echo the suggestions for Burning Bridges as another great one by Delain. I love when Delain get some well deserved attention from a keen mind like yours, my friend. I was lucky enough to see them open for Sabaton and Nightwish - shame on me for missing some of their first songs I was late - but what a night that was and I was hooked on them from the first full song I heard. Easily best show I've ever seen, I mean how can you argue with that lineup!?

Ok Chase!! Now you have reacted on almost every Dutch female lead vocalist. So I think it's time to start with the godmother of all, Anneke van Giersbergen. My suggestion would be Strange Machines by the Gathering, this was her first band.... Had great fun watching this reaction. Let's me listen to music on a different level.

Thanks for another great reaction Chase. I always get so much from your comments on songs I may have listened to a hundred times (of which this is one), and not just on the song itself but on songwriting and song structure in general. Delain are a long-time favourite and have the honour of being the last band I saw live before the world went crazy. They were awesome that night as were Amorphis and Anneke van Giersbergen who supported (would love to hear you react to "Amongst Stars" by Amorphis which features Anneke on vocals). For Delain, maybe try "Suckerpunch" or "We Are The Others" next (and you should look into the backstory on the latter...)

Ah, it's time to look up more of Delain I see. I can also recommend Kamelot with Under Silver Grey Skies, the live version from 013 of course. The voices of Tommy and Charlotte together are magical.

She doesn't just BELT. She supports her belting properly. Like Floor does. And that delicate threnody at the beginning is meant to lower our guard. The rest of the band is waiting around the corner, ready to go at us with cast iron skillets. I'm not saying that's a BAD thing...Good ambush technique!

I'm a big fan of Delain and more than any other band they are consistently great and so my first reaction when you asked about where to go next was, any one will do. However one of the things I like about your reactions is your technical explanations and so I am interested in you listening to their song 'Fire with Fire' and tell me (technically) why I think that it is the best intro to a song that I have heard in years.

She does an amazing duet with Tommy of Kamelot, Under Grey Skies which has an awesome live video. Kind of a cool ballad-y song. You should check it out!

Chase at the beginning of the song 'Wow! it's lovely.', me thinking 'You have no idea what's coming. HEHE!'. Nightwish is my favorite band of all time, but when I think of Symphonic Metal, the first song that comes to mind is this one, to me this is the perfect song, the length, the arrangements, the vocals, the solo, etc.

I think a reaction for We Are The Others by Delain is a worthy suggestion, too. I LOVE the message, the cameos, the song itself... Hope you get a chance to check it out! The album April Rain was my first introduction to Delain and I had no idea Marko guest appeared, so when he popped up I remember, I was on a plane to London with my class and literally was like "Wait... MARKO!" and no one in my class was really big into them so I had to revel in this discovery on a 9 hour flight all by my lonesome. Good times, good times. Keep it going with them!

Love to see your reactions. I started off with your Nightwish reactions. But i like the other stuff to. You should deffinatly react to Ayreon to. A Dutch composer, named Arjen Ouders en, who asks other singers and artist to work with him. A Nice song to start is the day that the world breaks down. You will like how Arjen Lucassen himself, explains stuff. There's a lot to discover in his compositions.

The first time I heard Delain was back in '09 with their track "April Rain" (it blew me away). That's probably about as good of a place as any to start.

One thing about Delain, and Charlotte in particular, is that they're amazing live! Which is surprising to me, since they have the type of song-builds that typically translate poorly to live play; and there are also a bunch of live open air/festivals shows from them on KZread which are, sadly, not the best performances (and/or recordings?). I have seen them a lot of times by now though, and they've been absolutely amazing live. Especially loved them in small venues, for some reason.

In case you didn't know but Delain was established by keyboard player Martijn Westerholt who is the brother of Robert Westerholt and both started out together with Within Temptation. After he left WT Martijn went on to form Delain. Delain also has undergone several line-up changes, one of them involving bassist Rob van der Loo who left Delain to join ..... Epica. It is a small world over here :-)

Chase - Charlotte has done some looped covers at home. Her version of Billie Eilish's "Bad Guy" is particularly good. I melt at her "Duh!".

Hello Chase, I've really been enjoying your analysis of some of my favorite bands. Have you looked into Leaves' Eyes at all? I love their music, Hell to the Heavens is one of my favorite songs by them.

Burning Bridges should 100% be your next one! Though "Mother Machine" or "Fire with Fire" are excellent too!

I knew you would love this one 😁 "Burning Bridges" is another favorite. You pointed out the 8-string Timo Somers is playing here, and I can't help but to nerd-out for a sec 😁... Timo plays Aristides guitars. They are made solely from an engineered material called "Arium," which was created with the goal of producing an absolutely stunning level of resonance and sustain. One of my favorite elements of this band is the way the guitar often blends quite seamlessly with the keys/strings, rather than playing over top of them, and I think the Aristides is a huge part of that. If you have never heard one before, I really recommend taking a listen, because it's a pretty unique sound. Also, most of their models have additional mods and are highly customizable. I've seen a few that have both active and passive pickups that can be utilized at the same time (I can't even wrap my head around what that wiring must be like). Anyways, sorry for the essay, I just really dig that guitar.. Carry on 😉

Delain had broken up and gone their separate ways a little while back, with the founding keyboardist keeping the rights to the name Delain. Now, he's got an all new band, all new but himself, and they have a new single out, 'The Quest and The Curse'. It's really amazing how much the new band sounds like the old one.. including the new singer, Diana Leah, who really sounds like Charlotte Wessels.

Delain is such an underrated band :)

Stardust, Fire With Fire, Burning Bridges, Mother Machine, the live acoustic stuff (The Hurricane).

I saw Kamelot a couple years ago and 2 bands opened for them, Battle Beast and Delain. I had never even heard of either band before the show. Boy, what a pleasant surprise!!! They both were Amazing!! Charlotte sounded fantastic live and they kicked ass!!! Total fanboy now..lol My 2 favorite songs of theirs are Suckerpunch and Here Come The Vultures if you are so inclined to check them out.

Delain - We Are the Others (Official video) Great song and video with a very sad and shocking origin. If you do this one I recommend digging a little into the events that inspired it.

Instant click when I saw Delain come up. Never off my playlist for for long, and definitely a band to see live ( when we can again) We Are The Others, would be a good one cover, do a little research on wikipedia on background of the song, a sad UK news story.

This song is so dramatic. I also love Charlotte's voice and the band is very good as well. I think you should also react to another music video by Delain. Also, I've come once again to recommend you to react to Blackbriar, Zora's voice has a creepy tune just as Charlotte and their songs are just a delight to hear! I'd recommend "Arms of the Ocean", "Preserved Roses" or if you want to hear Zora's voice with someone else, "Snow White and Rose Red" with Ulli Perhonen is amazing!!! (And Ulli is the lead singer of Snow White Blood, a band who recently launch their first album a few days ago! IT'S AMAZING AS WELL!)

One thing that I want to mention about this song is that the first and second vers and chorus don´t have the exact same chord progression, so Very interesting when listening because over the whole song, you hear the same piece again but with different chords. That makes every part of the song feel unique
