    Chase some background about the lyrics: All songs of Ancient Bards are part of the "Black Crystal Sword" saga - authored by the composer you see at the piano, Daniele Mazza. Each album represents a chapter in the saga, this song is taken from chapter three/ the third album: A New Dawn Ending. Each album is a masterpiece and an intriguing listening for every fantasy nerd out there.

    Ancient Bards is one of those rare bands that you don't expect to be as good as they really are, but then you start listening to them and are COMPLETELY BLOWN AWAY by just how amazing they are. When I first discovered this band a few years ago, I thought, 'nah, this is going to be crappy fantasy themed cheese metal garbage...' Then I heard a few songs that TOTALLY grabbed my by the ears and slammed my head around the room. I've been hooked ever since. It's a nice surprise to learn that they also have a concurrent story arc through all of their albums too. I LOVE stuff like that.

    I've been a huge fan of Ancient Bards for quite a few years now, so I'm really happy about this reaction! They kind of remind me of Ayreon since they also create complex stories with many characters in a fantasy universe (they don't use that many singers though, it's usually just Sara + the choir, sometimes a bit of growling here and there). Here's a couple of suggestions for future reactions: Aureum Legacy (incredible vocals, awesome choirs, catchy chorus, one of my personal favourites): kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZayEw81spajaocY.html Across This Life (also this^): kzread.info/dash/bejne/qmtmvNZphcjKg7A.html All That Is True (a bit longer than your usual song, very emotional, lyrically related to this one): kzread.info/dash/bejne/qIeCzMiCYdSqcto.html Light (another beautiful ballad): kzread.info/dash/bejne/oIeFrM6pZbW3oco.html

    A comment on the lyrics: Ancient Bards is telling an epic story called The Black Crystal Sword Saga in three parts over nine albums (of which 4 are finished.) I don't know if this is an accurate interpretation of the lyrics, but I've always interpreted this as a mother's lament at the loss of her son. Like most women who lose love ones to seemingly senseless fighting or acts of war, she finds it impossible to understand why it falls upon her to make such a sacrifice. Sara makes such a sympathetic character in the verses, it's impossible not to shed a tear or two, and pray with her that maybe it doesn't have to be this way. This band has been waiting a long time for some well-deserved recognition. Thank you, Chase.

    Yeah, you’re pretty much right. At this point in the story, Sendor (the bad guy) and Daltor (one of the heroes) are fighting and Queen Shena (also one of the heroes) is watching while remembering the child she had with Sendor who came out stillborn and drove Sendor into madness.

  • @konradstanczyk5158

    @konradstanczyk5158

    Yes, the song is Shena's (the name of the character in the story) lament over losing her child. Ancient Bards' albums always tell stories about specific characters in a universe they created (much like Ayreon, but they don't have as many singers).

    Little bit of the story for you: this is part of Album 3 so get the whole story from listening to each one. Sendor (left) and Daltor (right) are fighting a duel over the Black Crystal Sword. Shena, Sendor’s former lover, wounded in battle with him moments before, is lamenting the death of their son as an infant. Dorus’ death drove Sendor to madness and was the catalyst for the whole story.

    Alrighty, STORY TIME! The first three albums of Ancient Bards (The Alliance of the Kings, Soulless Child, and A New Dawn Ending) follow the story of four heroes as they try to prevent war in Lastworld. King Rahed, King Daltor, Queen Shena, and Dorus learn that Sandor, the dark wizard, has come into possession of the Black Crystal Sword. The Sword is an artefact of immense power and has been kept hidden, only accessible by presenting each King's weapon before it. They travel together to the Dark Cave, where the Sword was hidden, to confirm what Dorus claims. When they arrive, they're accosted by a Black Dragon: one of the two assigned to guard the Sword. Daltor, famed for being a dragonhunter, battles the beast with his Silver Sword, but he loses his weapon and is carried away by the Dragon, which is under the control of Sandor's magic. The remaining three heroes, believing Daltor to be dead, take his sword and continue through the Dark Cave where they discover that, indeed, the chest containing the Black Crystal Sword is missing. So now, they must journey to the heart of the Dead Sea, to Sandor's fortress, to retrieve the Sword and defeat Sandor. It's here that we learn more about Shena and Sandor. Once upon a time, they were lovers, and even had a child together. Their love was forbidden, since he was not one of her kind, and they were overjoyed that their child might convince their people to allow their relationship. Unfortunately, the baby dies of sickness, and the pair never truly recover. Shena manages to pull herself together enough to become the Princess she was, and eventually the Queen she is, but Sandor devovles further and further into madness. He believes that with Shena's help, they can resurrect their child, although Shena knows that there would be no way to bring back his soul, even with the Black Crystal Sword. Now, when they arrive in front of Sandor, he reveals that Dorus, the boy who'd been travelling alongside them this whole time, is his son, resurrected but with no soul. It explains the familiarity Shena felt towards him, as much as he's changed. When Rahed and Shena approach Sandor to do battle, they forget a crucial fact: they're holding the Four Weapons of the Four Kings, and this causes the sacred chest to snap open. Sandor grabs the Black Crystal Sword, and becomes infinitely more powerful. He strikes down Rahed and Shena, feeling the power of the sword course through his veins. He tries again and again to return Dorus' soul to his body, but in vain. Finally, his mind snaps, and he descends into complete madness. Before he can kill Rahed or Shena, however, a window shatters, and Daltor returns! He had managed to clear Sandor's influence from the Black Dragon, and ride it to Sandor's fortress. While taking his Silver Sword once again, Daltor recalls his own past. Specifically, his father. Out hunting one day, he had an argument with his father, and so had run away. When he returned home, he returned to the sight of his father's corpse, hanging by a noose from the ceiling. His whole life, he'd blamed himself for that, and had carried it like a brand inside him. Now, he remembers the words his father had said to him just before their final hunt together, and they make sense: "Every fighter knows that he's stronger when there's just peace to rule his mind." On top of that, Sandor reveals that it was him who drove Daltor's father to kill himself, ealous that Daltor's father should have a family and he shouldn't. As the two combatants prepare to face each other, Rahed gathers the remaining three weapons and directs them towards Daltor's Silver Sword, infusing it with the power and making it a match for the Black Crystal Sword. Daltor and Sandor battle, each avoiding the other's blades until, finally, the blades clash. The Black Crystal Sword shatters, and Daltor stabs Sandor throught he heart. As he is impaled, Sandor's expression changes from hatred and madness to one of peace and calm, as the darkness finally leaves him. Daltor carries the two corpses on his back, while he, Shena, and Rahed escape the crumbling ruin. They bury Dorus and Sandor in a peaceful place, then return the shattered fragments of the Black Crystal Sword to the Dark Cave. While there, however, Rahed realises that the shards are not black, but white. Furthermore, while sleeping, a vision of Daltor's father appears to him, and says that in destroying the Black Crystal Sword, an ancient evil has been awakened and unleashed on the world. The story is far from over... ----- This song in particular is from the perspective of Shena during the final battle between Daltor and Sandor, as she considers her son, Dorus, and how he died as an infant.

    Can I advise you to make a reaction to the song "showdown" by this band? It's a bit long but it's extremely complex and very intense, a masterpiece, you'll have a lot to say about that song, please read this commentary ❤️

    For next one the easy choice would probably be the best. First single from the last album "Impious Dystopia" kzread.info/dash/bejne/h56lk8R7mZrZibg.html or if you want something older then "To The Master Of Darkness" is also good kzread.info/dash/bejne/fW1_mbCIlsXPmNY.html Both are music videos.
