Thank you for saying this!! Sooo many people keep calling the lyrics meaningless, but if people actually take the time to read them, they’d see that that’s obviously untrue. As usual, Namjoon is creatively expressing his honest thoughts. This time, it happens to be in a stream of consciousness style rap addressing haters and naysayers while flexing his technical skills 🤷🏻‍♀️

He said "hit me" at the end, and NOBODY even DARED to hit him or try to come at him in the rap scenario ever.

It's nine flows without chorus but a whole ass rapping. He even recorded this with his breathing problem because of his nose, but he still nailed it. Rap Monster in that era is something else. 🤧

Hence there's no hook, just bars after bars and some nonsense words like 'bibbidy bobbidy.. *Joke is an intelligent sattire for people who think rapping fast without any meaningful lyrics and flow is cool or good.* The bibbiby babbiby verse you heard him say is the joke of him dissing the mumble jumble rappers. Joke is not just "fast rap" with no meaning. RM is the KING of wordplays. He focuses a lot on lyricism, double/triple entendre and flow. He gets his inspiration from 90's hip hop if you wanna check out his first mixtape. but simply the other rappers are making fun of him because he can't rap fast and only focus on lyricism which is why he made this song for them. he said "hit me" at the end to allow others to diss him again. but nobody did anything yet. King's shit. fun fact: RM was at one point one of the top students in all South Korea, boy is a GENIUS... *In short, RM GENIUS SONGWRITER OF THE CENTURY.* His rap is not only skillful but extremely intelligent. Makes me wish I knew Korean to fully understand all the wordplay and references.

Hearing this song really changes the way you see him, right!? Once you know he's got this in him, there's no going back. He's matured a lot since this, but his abilities only grew as well.

This is true. I also thought after watching this video the first time, that I'm gonna get hardcore aggressive rap like yoongi does but he's far from it. He's such a poet in every sense. How amazing we r fans of such talented artists. They so different, so same still

RM has never said the lyrics were meaningless. He's said that he wrote the lyrics as a "stream of consciousness" and that "there’s nothing hidden behind the lyrics." He made this straightforward, rather than put in deeper emotions/thoughts that he usually does with his regular lyrics. So, I take it as him saying Joke is more just a straight diss track rather than being a song with multilayered messages.

This is one of his greatest songs in my opinion. 🙌 He sampled Run The Jewels for the beat but owned it the entire time!

He literally told others that making a song shitting about others is damn easy...and that HE CAN rap fast with meaningless (doesn't represent anything) wordplay too but he CHOSES to write what he believes in......and at the end he said HIT ME and noone has replied to the song YET.!!

I honestly love this song because of all the reasons you pointed out. And although these days RM says that he has some regrets about this mixtape, I am glad that he did it and it is out there for all of his fans who actually love all sides of him, not just his polished kpop leader image. And I am very happy that now he did comeback to his roofs in RPWP (his last solo album), saying everything he wanted just the way it is.

The only requirement their management company put on them when they started was that they had to be making music with their own voices and their own stories. BTS was really unique in that it had RM and Suga, two producers, to produce their music authentically. Newer gen kpop groups have emulated this a little bit, but at the time that BTS started, they were unique. That may be why their lyrics resonated with the youth of Korea so much, because they were also Korean youths and they were talking about real shit. But yeah. The solo albums are where they get to go crazy and experiment a little bit more with what kind of music they personally want to write, and the messages they personally want to project. AgustD is Yoongi’s stage persona that he created, separate from BTS, to rap about things that he needed to get out and heal from. You’ll see him soon I’m sure ☺️

I hope you guys get to dig into all of his earlier solo stuff to his current releases. You can tell as time goes on how he has grown from being young and hungry to fully diving into his art. Love the reactions guys 👌

They aren't meaningless, they are literally essays worth of meanings in there . Namjoon is incapable of writing anything meaningless

If they are going in release order of solos mixtape/albums then it's: RM 2015, Agust D 2016, J-Hope 2018, RM 2018, Agust D 2020, J-Hope 2022 and then we start getting songs from the vocal line. BTS are an anomaly in Kpop, they have always been from the very beginning heavily involved with writing, producing, & the messages or creative themes of their albums this was extremely rare back then and even now to some extent. Newer groups now have a bit more opportunities to get some say in their music because of BTS being so successful. BTS have always been outliers and pushed the boundaries. I just say their BTS pop at this point because they are so different from the others that it's kinda crazy ngl.
