I discovered Nemophila when I decided to see how this band would handle one of my favorite Maiden songs. Because of Band-maid, I had been listening to a lot of Japanese bands so I knew the musicianship would be excellent. I was very pleasantly surprised to hear the best female rock/metal voice of any of the Japanese bands. Others are better singers but none have the rasp and screaming ability of Mayu. I was also surprised to see Saki (stage left guitarist) who I already knew from the band Mary's Blood. Mayu picks most of the cover songs because they are songs she likes and wants to learn to sing. Saki, who speaks very good English, helps Mayu phonetically with the lyrics. Mayu has gotten much better with her English lyrics over the last couple of years. The first cover that Nemophila uploaded was Iron Maiden's The Trooper. Mayu was less animated in that video because she was probably thinking too much about remembering and pronouncing the lyrics. As you can tell from Aces High, that is no longer an issue. Nemophila had their first US performance earlier this month at Whisky a Go Go. The first two songs from that show are on their KZread page. That would be a good second reaction. Just fast forward till you see them actually start walking on stage. Y'all are going to love this band.

I love how helpful they are to one another, truly a team effort in this group! We've enjoyed the Japanese metal immensely so far!

One of the best things about this band is how they have fun playing with each other, is contagious.

No problem starting with a cover. They do some really good ones, and I'm an Iron Maiden fan as well. but their original material is great. Their latest release is "Adabana", and it's my favorite of theirs thus far.

@@RyanSquared I'm not a fan of Journey but that is a fantastic cover of theirs. The people at work liked it. Zetsubo Billy is a great cover also and if you haven't heard Maximum the Hormone that is two birds getting stoned. The Linkin Park cover is great and the singer looks hot as hell. Misfits cover of Die Die My Darling is great. They aren't capable of doing a bad cover. Their drummer is the queen of drum covers. Before Nemophila she made a small fortune on KZread doing drum covers. Just for a Japanese audience. Almost all Japanese songs. But she has hundreds of millions of views on her personal drum channel.

You're right Ryan, no doubt about their love for metal bands and artists. It's in their blood. Now how a generation of young female artists fell in love with metal seems a bit of a mystery to us, but in Japan that's a fact, and has been for two or three generations actually. Nobody's complain.

They are one of the best at doing covers, they can cover any genre and do. They try and pay homage to the original artists like in outfits or dance moves. I love them. Their originals are among the best out there today, in my opinion.

NEMOPHILA is a band that I think everyone would not mind which do you start since both their originals and covers are well done.

Nemophila is amazing. Recommend other Nemophila songs Adabana, Dissention, Life (written for their drummer - she was afraid she wouldn't be able to return to music after the birth of her second child). The drummer is amazing - she is one of the top drummers in Japan. The biggest Japanese metal band in the world is Babymetal. They did a cover of Painkiller with Rob Halford.

Nemophila formed towards the end of 2019 right before the pandemic hit. So to combat travel restrictions and lockdown, they’d upload something they’d polished up and covered from their jam room nearly every Friday! And yes they did do a Nickleback tune in there as well. But they also did a couple J-Pop tunes for fun that even as a metal head I found immensely entertaining! Their covers are more like an actual homage- notice Tamu, drummer, made her shirt sleeveless like Niko McBrain? Well, I’m subscribed so please do more from their KZread channel!😄💪🏻🤘🏻

The woman that introduced them is the great Keiko Terada who founded the all-female rock/metal band Show-Ya back in 1981. In 1987, she also founded the festival where Nemophila performed Oiran and Dissension last year. She is every bit the metal queen and pioneer that Doro Pesch is deservedly called. Keiko is a year older than Doro and formed her band the year before Doro formed Warlock. They know and respect each other and It is not surprising that Doro is featured on a Show-Ya song from their 2021 album.

Plus she can't get has high as Dickerson at the end of Aces High. So she did her growl trademark. And yep. You will hear it if you keep going.

Welcome to Nemophila. This one of the hottest bands out of Japan. Their first album came out in December. They just played their first concert outisde of Japan on July 1 at Whisky a go go in LA. They are all very talented.Try and check out Dissension,OIRAN Live (NAONのYAON2021, Revive and Hyponosis are amazing too. Their newest one Adabana came out a few weeks ago and is their best yet IMO. I enjoy everything these ladies do very kick ass band and fun to listen too.

It doesnt matter with Nemophila. You can start anywhere. Covers or originals. Make sure you check out their Japanese bands covers as it will lead you into more new Japanese metal/rock goodies. Covers like SHIMI from Maximum the Hormone or X-Japans Kurenai. There are many more too. RAITEI was their first music video then Dissension. OIRAN was another of their early ones but do that one "live" at NAON YAON 2021 for something different. Remember too that the lead singer Mayu hardly speaks English so those Iron Maiden lyrics are just memorizing the sound and not understanding the word. Very hard to do. The band sort of started just before COVID and did the covers for their fans as they couldnt do lives and it was something for people in lock down to look forward too. Thats another reason why their fans loved them at the start.

Do some NEMOPHILA songs. Start with Revive or the live version of Oiran. My favourite cover is the Maximum of the Hormone cover where the drummer has her toddler running around while she drums her brain out .

You're right, these ladies love and above all respect the songs they cover, which they make clear with many (small) details. But be slightly warned. You ain't seen nothing yet. These ladies have a hell of a lot to offer, are versatile and will certainly surprise you a time or two. :) Should I mention that they even have a cover of Nickelback in their catalogue? Great reaction from you 2, i would like to recommend my favorite band from japan called Dir En Grey, they are heavier so if you don't like them you don't need to join them, if you create interest it's a band that released their 11th album recently and none are similar with the other it's hard to describe the actual genre of the band but their musicians are one of the respective best on their instruments in japan and their lead vocalist named Kyo is absolutely fantastic singing, he has clean vocals, he can growl and scream so well and even make insane high whistles, my recommendation for you would be the song "vinushka eng sub live hd" you will be surprised if you give this band a chance. greetings!!

I’ve listened to this song many times and it sounds very boring compared to their original material. Try their latest, ADABANA, and the demo of OIRAN recorded in this same studio. Their covers of Japanese songs are very interesting. ONE NIGHT CARNIVAL is among the best.

Good reaction, but a suggestion: never, EVER talk over guitar solos. ;)
