This song is Demi's story. She had a drug and alcohol problem and basically overdosed in 2018. She was clean for 6 years and relapse unfortunately.

This was one of the hardest react videos for me to watch. Y'all touching on the people surrounding an addict was so spot on. My mother is recovering from an opiate addiction. As a child and young adult, I stayed around simply because I loved her. She needed me. Now, with children of my own, I realize the strength and importance of walking away, too. My children need me and I want to save them from what I experienced. Addiction is absolutely a demon. It is a hell that an addict never escapes. Thank you so much for this reaction.

Though rehab only does so much. An addict will only get clean once they truly want to get clean. Until then it's a cycle of relaspe, overdoses, criminal/civil consequences, hospitalization, etc.

It is when you are by yourself. That’s when the demons get you. It’s a battle every day. When you relapse it makes you feel like a utter failure. It hurts, life, sometimes taking that drink or snorting that line is the only way to stop the hurt. It’s when the noise is loudest I feel my most vulnerable to my addiction

Great discussion. I'm a nurse/paramedic and I have dealt with many people with addictions. Some of my colleagues just don't understand it, and think these patients are a waste of time and resources. But I always have an affinity for these people. ANYBODY can become addicted to a substance. I've known people who had been prescribed opiate pain meds from a doctor after and accident. And then when the prescription from the doctor stops, they realise they are needing that drug. So they end up buying it on the street, then they lose their job, their home, their family. It can happen to you, so nobody should look down at people who are vulnerable, or think "that could never happen to me." Only last week, there was a homeless lady I used to see regularly. I work night shifts and when I got home I would take my dog out. I would give her a sandwich or a flask of coffee. Then one afternoon, there were police and ambulances near where she would often be seen drinking cans of beer. I found out she had been found dead. I have been to calls like this many times in my job. But it's a bit different when you have kinda got to know the person. And it broke my heart. And Ashley (is that your wife's name?) I totally agree with you about words hurting more than anything else. I was once in a violent relationship, I was beaten regularly, and my confidence shattered by the things he would say. I left him years ago and built up a career that I love, but this may sound strange, but the physical violence was bad, but it wasn't the worst, it was the put downs, the name calling, the being called useless; that has stayed with me to this day. I never feel good enough. Sticks and stones can break your bones, but words can break your heart. I drank a lot after I left him, I wasn't an alcoholic but I abused it. Then I stopped, it just made things worse. Sorry for rambling on, but I really got into your discussion and had to comment. Love to you both and your family.

I know what you mean about smoking. I started smoking when I was about 10 years old and didn't quite until I was 35 years old. But if the truth be known, I didn't quite....God delivered me from smoking and some other vices. Thank you Lord Jesus!!!

  • @HillaryHuffine
    @HillaryHuffine5 жыл бұрын

My grandma used to be a smoker and my grandpa would always nag her about quitting. But honestly, the more he nagged the more she didn't want to quit. He used to be a smoker, he quit cold turkey. Then he started chewing tobacco, and quit cold turkey, so he thought because he didn't have trouble doing it that no one else does. All that to say, I can't imagine how hard quitting an addiction is, but I know it's not impossible because people do it every day. You just have to decide that you want it. I don't think anyone can get you to quit something until you decide that you need to.

Yes Demi has dealt with A LOT since her teens. She was bullied bad when she was in school as a kid, battled an eating disorder, diagnosed bipolar, depression, battled with alcohol and drugs. I love her though shes a fighter. I grew up with her since she was on Disney Channel with her tv show "Sonny with the chance", movies "camprock 1 and 2" with the Jonas Brothers and Alyson Stoner, "the princess protection" with Selena Gomez. She also did "Barney" when she was a young kid with Selena Gomez aswell.

On February 5, 2014 I got a call from my daughter. My 9 week old grandson was at our local hospital and the doctors were not telling her much about what was wrong with him. It turns out that while my daughter was working, his father had shaken & severely abused him. They air lifted him to Levine’s Children’s Hospital in Charlotte, NC. We were there for the longest time. One weekend, Demi Lavato came & performed for the kids. I thought that was the sweetest thing bc she was pretty big then bc of her covers of songs from Frozen. When I heard her addiction I wanted to tell ppl who were such fans passing judgment on her. No one is perfect even though sssssooooo many ppl think so highly of themselves to think they are. I am all about the unconditional love & respect for everyone. Life is hard enough but to put judgments against you for not being perfect is extra heavy on a ppl. Why can’t we all just help each other through life without having any issues with what others do, who they are or the choices they make. Love & compassion are the keys. We will all make mistakes.

You should definitely check out the documentary it's so good and explains so much better and more about Demi I mean she's sober again now but it just sad that it took her to be on her deathbed for her to realize that she needs to stop before it's too late. I still love her though but at the same time i had so many family members die from drug's and alcohol that when she went through all this it made me a little bit mad because my mom's sister completely stopped and still died but she continues ends up in her deathbed and still lives. But then i realized that's sometimes is those people's time to go and some people Journeys aren't finished i hope u 2 stay blessed💕🍀🙏

this song came out when i was dying at home from liver cirrhosis. i had no idea how serious my health issues were. it was an odd feeling of “how the hell did someone else write this? I couldn’t put how i feel into words better than this “. I’m doing so much better, i stopped at the last moment where i eventually was told i no longer needed a transplant. my health is better. but it’s interesting to hear commentary from, imo, “normal people”. (Normal being those who haven’t suffered with addiction in its many forms). I think THE most important thing you both said in this video is recognizing those who love us addicts. Who stick around. And also recognizing his touch of a decision it is for the vast majority who don’t stick around. Addiction is a disease that ruins way too many lives - probably way more than just all the addicts. They really are the true MVPs like you said. Thank you both for opening this discussion and not only trying to find sympathy/empathy/understanding, but excelling at it.

It’s definitely her story. She overdosed on heroin a few years ago, and almost died (apparently she needed narcan, and the friend who found her was told by paramedics ´ that if he hadn’t done so, she would’ve died within five to ten minutes). She also had trouble with alcohol and other substances, but, as far as I know, she’s been clean since then. I think this song shows how she feels (or felt) when using. If you want a real gut-punch, watch the official music video for her song Dancing With The Devil.

15:57. That's true L. You don't know who your real friends are until you become famous or suddenly win the lottery. Because then you've suddenly got a whole bunch of "friends". A Swedish saying.

I understand how you feel about cigs. I'm currently trying to stop, but like you said, the hardest part about kicking the cigs is that I'm used to smoking while having an alcoholic beverage and after eating. Congrats on beating your nicotine addiction bro.

Demi Lovato is a recovering drug addict and wrote this song after relapsing after almost 6 years of sobriety!! She Overdosed last year and almost died, she went back to rehab after being released from the hospital and has been sober since then. I have been a Demi Lovato fan from the beginning and continue to be. Please check out more Demi Lovato!

Damn it's sad she was a true inspiration to me while growing up I use to watch her and the Jonas brothers on camp rock when I was little . I can't believe it . This song was actually written before she over dosed herself it was a goodbye song

She was and alcoholic and a drug addict since she was a teen. It's how she was able to cope with all of the bullying. She was being bullied even after she became a star on the Disney channel for Camp Rock.

You guys should really react to her documentary Simply Complicated. I know it's not something you normally do, but it's a beautiful documentary and you'll understand every single song of her you're ever gonna react to. The documentary is not necessarily just about her as an artist but as a person with a lot of personal problems. I think everyone can learn something from it! The documentary is from before her drugs/alcohol problems started again, so just keep that in mind if you're gonna watch it.

Yeah alcohol withdrawal is not fun and not something to mess with, it can be life threatening if it's bad enough. I wish more people would talk about this more, I've gone through DTs several times (Delirium Tremens) which is severe alcohol withdrawal and you can have the shakes, hallucinations, and seizures. If anyone is dealing with this, I'm no doctor but if it's concerning to you please seek medical help!!! Alcoholism is really hard to deal with because it's actually one of the few drugs that can kill you from withdrawal! We get into this cycle where we do not want to stop drinking because of the withdrawal and more alcohol takes those symptoms away and that's what people do not understand! Very touchy subject for me.

Mine was more the comfort of a routine than the cigarettes themselves. I don't like change so easily fall into ruts and get comfortable in them even when they're destructive.
