Excerpt from the description on Amazon regarding the movie Melody: …” An excellent musical score by the Bee Gees adds appeal to this curious little movie about two ten-year olds, Daniel and Melody (Mark Lester and Tracy Hyde) who are completely taken with each other and announce to their parents, in all seriousness, that they plan to get married. This marriage is not planned for the distant future, but as soon as possible. The uproar that is caused when their seriousness becomes clear is not too surprising. ‘….

That description isn't very accurate. For a start they're both 12 😀 Wikipedia is more reliable - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melody_(1971_film) It's a good movie, particularly if you're looking back on it (and it's 1970 London setting) with nostalgic glasses on.

I saw the movie on tv one Saturday afternoon. It also starred a child actor at the time named Jack Wild, who I had had a crush on in the early 70s when he did a Saturday morning show called H. R. Puffinstuff. It's a cute little movie about coming of age and first crushes, etc. I don't remember a lot of particular details, though.

This is lovely late 60's pop, with the added bonus of Gibb harmony. I have not seen the movie. It's a "coming of age" film. I do remember it coming out when I was in Junior High because Mark Lester (he played Oliver in the movie) was in it. I haven't thought about it much since then. I did enjoy being able to isolate Mo's voice in this. One of my favorite songs of all time, "Morning of My Life" (then called "in the Morning") is also on this soundtrack. Thanks Chad. Nice early pick.

"Odessa" is considered a classic with a lot of innovative songs. Noticed the boy at 5:32, Mark Lester, played Oliver Twist in the movie. This song makes me think of a medieval madrigal that would not be out of place in Queen Elizabeth I's court.

When you think of the body of work that the Bee Gees gave us, it is exceedingly difficult to realize they couldn't read music. The opening of their songs The Melody of their songs the depth of their songs is inspiring. Of all the songs I have heard, they didn't have a particular sound that was repetitively used in their music. Each new song had its own sound. Their Harmony was always pronounce, perfect but it wasn't the same in each song. Sometimes it's mind-boggling to think how talented these three men really were. They really were a hit machine.

It wasn't until reading it online that I discovered Mo was singing the chorus lines...to my ear it sounded like Barry throughout. Mo was a chamilion, who could blend his sound to his brothers' voices. (I recently saw an article regarding the HBO Bee Gees documentary which called him "unmemorable" 😡.)Many months ago I found the movie on YT...it's a sweet story about young love and childhood. The young actress was quite good in her role.

I always had a special attachment to this song, after I bought the album decades ago. One day, maybe about two years ago, I ran into another site that had this song in spanish or italian, at least the title was. On the youtube video, it's in english, but when you play the video it displays Bella Melody as few times, with bella obviously meaning fair (as in beautiful). Something about this just gave me a funny feeling something was up. I've had enough of these screwy things happen around me, I can see them coming, but only vaguely, rather frequently. Shortly afterwards, I went to the Dollar Tree to pick up something up, and there was a new cashier there. While she was ringing stuff up, her eyes and mine briefly met when I was about five people back. As she was far too young for me, I did everything in my power afterwards to not let her think I was into her. As it came my time to be taken care of, I tried to look away without being too obvious, but she had to take care of something behind me, while somebody else took her place. I was real shy about looking her way again, but as she went behind me, I caught a faint glimpse of her name tag, and I thought I caught the letter B, followed by four more letters. You already know what's going to happen. As I was leaving, I could safely see her nametag in full, without her noticing me looking, and sure enough, her name was Bella. She's the only Bella I've ever known, although I definitely don't make it a habit to read nametags, but in this rather special case, I just had to look. Uh-oh. I see the top posting here, and Marcia Maria says "Linda musica". My only GF was named Linda, so I looked up the translation. I'm getting warm all over. It also means beautiful, just like bella means fair/beautiful. I had no idea, that even my very short-lived GF's name meant that, and she was. Perhaps that was the purpose to this Bella incident all along, that it should now come down to this?

Have it on dvd and only watched once... has a depressing, negative view of life that must be a British thing. On the other hand.. another lesser known movie that I purchased because of the Bee Gees connection that I would highly recommend is ALL THIS AND WORLD WAR TOO with Beatles music sung by popular 60’s/70’s artists - gave birth to Elton John’s cover of Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds. Definitely an A List line up of artists who do great interpretations of Beatles songs which are featured with a combination of actual period footage and newspaper headlines intertwined with clips from movies... a rock documentary. The way the songs fit the subject matter is amazing!!!! Here Cones the Sun overlapped with the Japanese heading for Pearl Harbor. Barry’s Golden Slumber as British citizens are going into the subway or a bomb shelter for the night, then going seamlessly into Carry That Weight while seeing the still smoking rubble in the morning and men going into battle. It made me realize for the first time just how threatened England was - and not that long ago. I saw Ringo say that his earliest memory was seeing a neighbor’s plumbing fixtures dangling in a neighbouring building after being damaged. Seeing America’s elitist leaders not wanting to get involved, and then seeing how the everyday American stepped up, and the Victory scenes... super educational and something we all need to be reminded of from time to time.... all overlaid with a top quality soundtrack. If I didn’t know better, I would think the songs had been written for the documentary. Skip Melody and go for ALL THIS AND WORLD WAR TOO.

That intro looked like you needed to go back to sleep Chad. My alarm went off to Barry singing Words, nice way to wake up 😉 Then I saw you had put up another Bee Gees song, bonus. They did very little of Odessa actually together from what I understand because this is when they were not getting along and were about to break up. At least that's what is said, and the final straw was the decision over Lamplight being on a B side of a single. Personally, I've found that alot of various singles B sides were just as good as the A side, sometimes better, on lots of artists and groups.
