a tale by Quincy is narrated by Quincy Jones, a music producer who’s achievements are way too long to list but he has 28 grammy’s and produced thriller for Michael Jackson

It's Quincy Jones, a famous musician and a producer, who worked with Michael Jackson, Chaka Khan, Frank Sinatra and more. In this track he tells the story of his mom's mental health condition and his relationship with women, which resonates with The Weeknd's personal backstory, because he also grew up with only one parent (his mom).

I agree that this album is more cohesive than After Hours it was built that way with Jim Carey skits. I'm sure the more you listen to this album the more you'll like it & certain songs more, it happens a lot with this album.. it is a different sound compared to anything else. Usually when something is more unique like that it needs more listens. Good reaction again, I have watched some of your The Weeknd album reactions but not sure how many you've done. As you've probably heard already his next album will be his last as The Weeknd n the finale of this Trilogy. Looking forward to see how he ends it. Have you reacted to the first Trilogy Mixtapes?

Out of Time's instrumental samples the instrumental to Midnight Pretenders by Tomoko Aran, a Japanese "City Pop" track from the 80s. I listened to that song a lot during the pandemic struggles so hearing that on this track along with the subject matter in it really hit me hard when I first heard it. Also the transitions on Kiss Land are just as legendary. It's his most cinematic album

This album, to me, is fully a transition piece more focused on universe/story building. A lot of this album were growers for me. After two years I only have one occasional skip, other than the skits. Best Friends lyrically just throws me off, but the beat carries it. If I’m listening to the whole album I don’t skip it simply because of the fire transition into Is There Someone Else. Starry Eyes never gets the love it deserves lol It’s so beautiful and sad. I knew you’d LOVE the transitions. All the regret filling this album is palpable. It’s probably the most vulnerable he’s been other than maybe on My Dear Melancholy. The spoken part of Every Angel Is Terrifying is from Rainer Maria Rilke's 1923 poem “The First Elegy”. We all thought After Life was going to be the name of the last album, but he confirmed that it wasn’t. So now we think it will at least be a track. But it will definitely deal with after life and rebirth. If someone has figured out the meaning of the different numbers in the commercial phone number I haven’t seen it yet. 4 is an angel number apparently so that’s something lol “The girl I used to love, we broke up in the club” has to be about Bella because there’s pictures and reporting of that happening. Obviously only Abel knows, but that’s what I think lol Wayne’s part was off and on again for me lol I like it but I can also see why some people wouldn’t. I did like hearing him do backing vocals and ad libs. Less Than Zero was absolutely INCREDIBLE live. It’s definitely a stadium song. Phantom Regret is one of the most moving and beautiful pieces of spoken word I’ve ever heard. When I heard it for the first time I cried. It simultaneously broke me and fixed me a little. Jim Carrey is a whole treasure of a person and was perfect for this album, and perfectly embodied the message behind it. The alternative world tracks are fire af! I’m so excited for the visual journey! Strap in lol Thank you as always for the great reactions! 🖤 XO

Definitely focused on the flow on the project and concept of it. It’s absolutely meant for the album experience, which I thoroughly appreciate. Yeah I feel like I was mostly taken back by the intensity of the concept. But especially after the knowledge of After Hours and the world building the videos did, Dawn is seriously a masterpiece. In its own right it’s seriously amazing, but as a sequel it is such a wild experience. Best Friends / ITSE? / Starry Eyes is currently my favorite portion of the album for obvious reasons lmfao. I definitely see what you mean with Best Friends, but it really doesn’t bother me tbh. Mostly cause like you said the transition makes it SO worth it lol It’s definitely is extremely deep and personal, I certainly feel like it’s more raw and emotional in comparison to After Hours. And that’s interesting, I’ve never heard that poem. Yes that’s 100% what I was thinking too, it’s gotta be Reborn/Rebirth/Reincarnated or Afterlife/Heaven/Hell SOMETHING 😂😂 I was wondering what hidden Easter eggs would be in that commercial lol And that’s interesting, definitely seems like he was alluding to it then lol. I know nothing of their relationship though. Wayne’s background vocals after his verse was really really nice. And I’m a big Lil Wayne fan so I knew it’d be enjoyable going in. But I also just like his ability to step into the concept of any song he’s on. Rarely does he drop some stupid “I’m the best for no reason” verse for actual artists Excited to hear Less Than Zero live!! Phantom Regret has to be one the absolute best “skit” like tracks, best outro. Like it really was everything. It pulls the entire record together, wraps it up nicely. And it’s so deep and beautiful. The instrumental. Like everything, seriously. And I definitely didn’t realize it was Jim Carrey until someone told me, but now I feel ridiculous for not recognizing him. I love Jim Carrey and he’s absolutely a treasure, he carried my comedic childhood. He really did such a good job for this record And yes alternate versions to come! Take My Breath Music Video, hopefully today!! 🤞🏼😁 Thank you as always for watching and for the extremely thorough response!! 🙏🏼💯💯

I just love the contradictory themes that he’s grappling with. Nihilism and hopelessness vs. love and hope. Selfishness vs. selflessness. Regret vs. forgiveness. Death and afterlife vs. rebirth. Chaos vs. peace. The “after hours” vs. the “dawn.” The concept, world-building, and experimental storytelling is next-level, but After Hours did indeed have many more bangers in my opinion. I’m hoping the last part of the trilogy will combine both aspects.

  • @YourLocalMelomaniac

    @YourLocalMelomaniac

    3 ай бұрын

Completely agreed, I love the contrast as well. And that’s a great way of putting it, not that After Hours didn’t have the concept or work building, but it was HEAVY for Dawn FM. To get a project that was heavily conceptual in nature and experimental but manage to have the plethora of accessible bangers.. it’d be everything lol Thanks for watching! 😁

Its okay to be new to the weeknd, soon you will be XO as will everybody else dw (this is obviously me imagining it) Ok the things you might have missed 1) the album begins with chirping of birds(In the start of the song Dawn FM) and ends with the same(at the end of Phantom regret), meaning its a loop, just like purgatory which is the theme of the album. 2)Coming to the theme of regret its a part of "pain(after hours) , regret(Dawn Fm) and rebirth (the next album, i.e. ?)" These three album make a modern trilogy as said by Abel 3)The feeling of Matrix is there because there is inspirations from that film 4)Abel in an interview said this album is like listening to a kind of adult contemporary radio station as you sit in a traffic jam in the tunnel, only the tunnel is purgatory and the light at the end of the tunnel is death. 5) A tale by Quincy is Quincy Jones, he has produced MJ's thriller 6) The beginning of Out of time is taken from a Japanese song : Midnight Pretenders. This shows the influence of Kissland on this Album 7) He confirmed indirectly that the name of the next album is not After life but would be a song on the album. 8) This is pure speculation but it is rumored I heard you're married is about Ariana Grande( I don't believe that tbf) Also some general points Less than zero is my fav track off the album Its true the transitions are flawless He is involved in the production ofc the tracks(like sacrifice) and the album in whole gets better after multiple listens its true the cohesion between the tracks and its relation to the concept of album is immaculate work by Abel.

I didn’t notice the loop!!! That is so amazing actually!! I did get the trilogy idea, maybe not fully at the time of filming this. But yes, truly incredible and pretty spot on representation Not surprised about inspiration from The Matrix, the whole idea of purgatory. And it being represented in this radio station. It’s all so amazing. I think the concept landed and stuck a bit stronger for this project compared to After Hours. Although I think After Hours was more commercially accessible. A Tale By Quincy is actually a highlight for me!! Ohhhh, I’m sure I’ll understand that more when I hear Kissland! Thats pretty cool, so I’m sure we’re all on the right track as far as speculating goes lol Less Than Zero is definitely 🔥🔥 Best Friend - ITSE? - Starry Eyes the transitions there alone make me wanna scream lmao I knew he had to have been involved in the production!! Yeah after several listens and having more background knowledge.. I like it just as much if not more than After Hours 😬😬 We’ll see what a bit more time does for me lol Thanks for watching and for your thorough response!!

@@YourLocalMelomaniac yeah I think he pushed after hours more in terms of pr , he got deeply involved in the role, appearing in public in the red jacket and church shoes and the whole ensemble. Dawn Fm was a bit more spontaneous releasing the whole thing without a proper rollout. As far as albums go , I still like after hours better just because of songs like repeat after me (tame Impala influence) and the rest and the pure pain in the artistry.

Kind of a spoiler about next project and « After Life » But Abel said in an interview that what most fans think will be the next album title (after life) is actually the title of a song from the album ! Though, I have a theory about it too We know there is a movie about to be announced featuring Jenna Ortega and Abel. Abel will reportedly play his Weeknd character, and Jenna’s character will heal him into recovery after he lost his voice at a show, so I’d really see After Life as the movie title Idk I’m probably delusional lmao

I consider your album reactions a special experience so I don't watch it as soon as it comes out. I sit down with my dinner and enjoy it on my big screen! The more I listened to Dawn FM the more it grew on me, of course I had my faves! ITSE is an absolute banger!! I kinda felt like it let you down from what you had been anticipating especially following AH but I'm glad to here it's grown on you. I think Abel uses music as therapy for himself lyrically, vocally and instrumentally and I appreciate how he brings his emotions to life. Once you listen to his entire discography, go back and listen to AH and Dawn FM, the narrative is profound. Just an FYI when you listen to his early stuff he integrates real life with exagerations and fiction, thus the character, The Weeknd. If you thought the line, " and you didn't expect to fall for me once you got this dick" was outa pocket just wait! 🫢

But I’m actually glad it wasn’t. Taken back a little upon first listen maybe, but the experience as a whole was wonderful and like we’ve both agreed it’s only gotten better with each listen really. Basically this album is obviously a continuation of After Hours, and is part of a trilogy based on Dante's Divine Comedy, in which After Hours is Hell, Dawn FM is based on Purgatory and the next album is in Paradise. The concept is also based on as if you were listening to a radio station during the transition to paradise, that's why he talks a lot in some songs about regret, remorse etc, guiding us through Jim Carrey, who would be like a guide (as he is Virgil with Dante in the divided comedy) The general idea of the weeknd is to leave that alter ego and actually call himself artistically like Abel Tesfaye in which he wants to make way for his new stage Pd good content keep it up👌👌

Transitions are so much better and smoother on the album. This is a good dance album and a good concept album if you take the time to understand it . he did gasoline, how do I make you love me, sacrifice, out of time, is there someone else and less than zero at his concert and they sound better live. Echos of silence and kissland has some 🔥 transitions too. Both of those albums are honestly waaaaay better than dawn fm in my opinion. His best ones are house of balloons, thursday, echos of silence (trilogy), kissland, my dear melancholy and after hours. His other 3 are too mainstream pop for me yet still good. I just prefer his slower darker emo rnb sounding music.

Hmm really? Beauty behind the madness, starboy (also a decent amount of dance 80s music) , and dawn fm( mostly all dance music) to me has the most upbeat pop music on it compared to his other albums and contain the most mainstream played on the radio hits. Which is why they are my least favorites. I mean there is save your tears, blinding lights and heartless that were the mainstream radio hits from after hours but it wasn’t a full dance 80s pop album like this was and still had a lot of slower music on it. I think that’s why I enjoy trilogy and my dear melancholy so much it literally has no dance music on it at all. Kissland has maybe 2 upbeat dancy sounding songs.

my observation is this, The Weeknd known for variety of music style and combining them to make a unique sound, but album to album hip-hop, R&B or pop shine through. On this project the element or flow of hip-hop sound lack the most. as I have seen on social media he is for most hip-hop or rap fans favorite R&B singer. So on this album didn't do well for that fan base. the rappers didn't add that much of a value (I just felt they are a filler for that fan base).Personally my favorite studio album of his loved the experience it grown on me so much.

I would definitely consider myself part of the hip hop fanbase. I mean The Weeknd was recommended to me coming off of a Travis Scott album reaction so that should tell you lol But given that, I still found the record very enjoyable. To be fair, I typically go outside of hiphop/rap more than the average fan so I guess that could play a part lmao

Unfortunately, I didn’t like this album on first listen. Fortunately I came back a year later & it blew my mind. Also the album starts with bird noises and ends with it, it’s a continual loop stuck in purgatory until his next album assumed to be called After Life. Your commentary is really enjoyable!

First listen of this album was honestly a disappointment but NOT. Goin from after hours and expecting to experience the same energy. Juss didn’t go as planned. And I’m happy about that.
