When it was there I went with a girl that wanted to see it but it was sold out so we saw once upon a time in Hollywood but I’ve heard those that experienced this in theaters were really affected by it becasue the intense music and ambiance is blasted through the theater. There’s a yourber that said when he saw it , the hose in the girls mouth scene was so disturbing and loud that 2 people in the theater vimmited at that part but he said he thinks a lot of thst was the music being so loud and so well orchestrated for this jsut made you feel sick and horrible in cinemas. I’m glad I waited it at home after hearing thst lol.

Lots of people view the ending of this as somewhat a happy ending; the fact that Dani gets out of a toxic relationship and that she finds a family. No one won in this situation, the cult won. When Dani first meets the village, everyone is welcomed but they specifically welcome Dani “home.” Dani was the perfect candidate to join a cult, her parents just died and her relationship wasn’t the best, she had no sense of belonging. The whole movie Pelle constantly triggers feelings back to being lonely and not belonging to persuade her in the end that she could belong there. Seeing people think this movie had a happy ending makes me realize how powerful brainwashing is.

brainwashing isn't innately powerful, the human mind is. when people lose meaning/purpose in life they become extremely suggestible. this is just a high-level form of manipulation on a mass scale, not dissimilar to how north korea works.

I agree 100% as does Ari Aster, he stated half the reason he’s done hereditary and Midsommer is to bring an awareness to recruitment tactics of cults that are growing rapidly around the world. California specifically he states has had a massive growth rate of satanic , pagan and other cults and they pray on the vulnerable , the lonely, the hurt and use manipulation and narcissistic tactics to get you in the door and few ever get out before their minds are brainwashed. He showed in hereditary a dark secretive pagan cult that worships Paemon the 8th king of hell, this one he purposely showed a bright “beautiful” “community” to show the misleading tactics when both are cults , both worship one of the “kings of hell” which are demons by their own literature. This particular pagan cult believes the Mayqueen after this life goes on to be one of the horde of Mayqueens that belong to that demon. Not only did dani get manipulated into joining , if their faith is correct, she’ll be a possession of a demon in hell after this life which the cults believe is a great thing,..but Dani knows NOTHING of that arrangement she’s just “agreed” to. Also, ALL of her friends were jsut murdered, yes her boyfriend was a dick and tho drugged, a cheater, she would never in a lifetime of sentenced him to the horrific death that she did which shows how midscrewed she already is. So no she’s not happy, she’s not good and in a good place, she was manipulated and targeted by Pele. Some deep divers have hd the theory Pele and the cult were involved in her families death to get her there and have nothing to return to. Note the Mayqueen flower crown identicle to hers on the mothers night stand at their death. Why would that be there? Pele also says his family was killed in a fire , if true did the cult have a part in that. In hereditary we learn the cult was behind EVERYTHING that happened to the family (the cult and demon) so safe to say Ari is implying they did the same here. Bipolar does not generally lead to violence, certainly not murder of your parents with a email statement declaring it. Did her seeing her parents multiple times and sister in the tree and around imply they were sacrificed by the cult? Sure it could be her trauma but interesting theory. You made a good point that many miss that she was the only one hugged and told “welcome home” when she met the elder. Also disturbing in comments to see people defend austastupa (sp) which is a real thing from the beginning of some pagan sects elderly commit suicide to not be a burden but a lot of religious historians state it’s a non optional thing, that most humans have an instinct to live and most likely don’t want to Jill themselves but in these cults you don’t have a choice . Forcing the elderly to Jill themselves, “cultural” or not is NOT ok! Very underage girls being impregnated as soon as they have their period but older “elders “ in the cults is pedophilia and child molestation, it’s not ok becasue group believes it is. Islamic extremists believe if a woman takes her headdress off they can behead her . They’ve done it for a very very long time but that doesn’t make it right or ok. Complacency and being accepting of “traditions” thst hurt people is never ever ok and shouldn’t be looked at as it’s their culture and none of our business. 12 year old girls should be able to live a happy life , marry who they chose and have children when they want with whom they want, not being raped by disgusting old pedophiles. Was glad to see your comment feeling the same way. Sadly this stuff does happen, there are some amazing escape stories on KZread of people who escaped cults and the stories of what goes on are so disturbing. Hearing some disturbing things comming out from Scientology escapees the last few years that should be illegal to do to people but religious freedom is giving too much leniency when it’s hurting people. I think it’s great Ari has done these couple movies . Wild to know these groups exist today, some among us.

I agree with you. She was not out of a toxic relationship, she was trapped in a highly toxic relationship, worse than anything Christian could offer. They weren't her family, the cult were her new owners. And I do think it qualifies as brainwashing because the cult seems to employ drugs on a daily basis to alter their thinking. They were drugged immediately on arrival, and then multiple times after that. Christian is even told at one point that the drink was to lower his defenses and open his mind. Pelle is congratulated at the end for the good job he did in bringing back this particularly good crop of outsiders. The manipulation was in getting them there, keeping them there, and separating them from each other without raising an alarm. The brainwashing is what makes Dani one of them at the end. That smile at the end came at the cost of her identity.

Director Ari Aster has stated before that he was going through a really tough break up while writing this movie, and always saw it as a break up story within a fairytale setting using the folk horror subgenre. So in a way you could say it was Dani being thrust into this beautiful nightmare setting, only to break out of a toxic relationship and washing her hands clean of Christian by the end. That's how I saw it.

He’s also stated both this and hereditary were projects to bring awareness to cult methods of recruitment and manipulation. He talked to a film school in California (it’s on KZread) where he states pagan and satanic cults are growing at high rates all over the world, specifically in California their really growing and he wanted to show how they prey on vulnerable or lonely or hurt people either in a hereditary dark secretive pagan cult way of promising rewards of sacrifice and “community” among the cult or the Midsommar pagan cults bright beautiful, “open” more natural “community” he refrenced Scientology, Wako Texas cult and a few others and talked about the manipulation of recruits that takes place. He also mentioned that Dani in Midsommar was completely manipulated and brainwashed so much that a good sweet human bieng sentenced a crappy boyfriend to be burned alive. The Mayqueen in most pagan sects sacrifices her soul to be the demon gods possession after this life forever in hell. She’ll also be impregnated at the choice and timing of the cult so poor dani lost her family in tragedy and gets manipulated by Pele and killing everyone she came with and having no family she had nothing to come back to or so they made her think. Suddenly she’s ok and smiling regarding her friends and 4 year boyfriend being murdered and burned alive showing she’s obviously not in a normal state, the drugs and manipulation have taken over. He said that he’s been shocked at the 50/50 thoughts on people being happy for dani and thinking she’s good and in a great place and the other half that see his point. He states he put some real traditions of pagan cults in the movie from mentioning girls from 12-14 must get impregnated regardless of their own feelings or choices , often by Elders in the cult, he made it clear that the two 72 year old couple clearly were not happy about having to commit suicide directing them to show fear and reservation at the dinner and the jump but it’s not optional and alot of his feedback was people agreeing that tradition which is an ancient pagan tradition that still exists today in some cults in Scandinavia and said he’d hoped more would see that tradition or not, forcing elders at 72 to comment suicide with no option to opt out or leave isn’t ok, religious or not. Impregnating 12 year old girls is never ok. The red head that chooses Dani’s boyfriend Pele mentions is almost 14 at one point in the movie so 22 year old BF had sex with a 13 year old. Not ok. He guesstimates about half of those who saw Midsommar seemed to miss his point which demonstrates why cults are growing today and why some traditions and pressures and tactics they use that shouldn’t be ok, are ignored or viewed religious freedom when there’s countless KZread videos from cult defectors , Scientology runaways that tell of what goes on in these cults but their still growing and noones taking notice. He never mentioned but I wonder if someone in his life was a victim of a cult either getting recruited or otherwise becasue he seems very passionate about bringing awareness to this , making 2 blockbusters about cults, surely he’s hd an experince that’s directing this. He ended by talking about what depressing and completely destructive movies they both are ending in the one we come to care about being manipulated and destroyed and the parallels to his breakup , manipulation and narcissistic methods used to get selfish wants in a relationship and the ultimate devastation he was left with for a long time. Seemed like most critics saw his interview where he states he went through a breakup when he wrote it and tied that into its theory and then everyone thinks that was the sole motive either not hearing or mentioning his equally important reasons for writing them. Hereditary very much parallels Midsommar and Easter eggs and links are all throughout it connected the 2 and he was “happy” in his relationship during hereditary marriage writing and filming but it also focuses on pagan cults and the damage they do. He stated how he was a bit disappointed in the message in hereditary being overlooked viewing it as jsut a sci fi horror when it’s based on actual beliefs /religion pulling the cults deity they worshiped straight out of pagan text. Pagan cults that worship Paimon the 8th king of hell and all mentioned in that movie is straight from pagan and also satanic text , the cults exist today all over the world and in the US and he said whether you believe in the beliefs , the gods they worship and their power or not, these cults do and perform rituals and sacrifices for these demon gods. He mentioned a satanic cult in the Bay Area of California that was raised in a sting and these adults were have sex and abusing children “as an offense against God” and a cult in northers Arizona where the leader Warren Jeff’s convinced all his followers he was Jesus Christ , convinced ALL the Marie’s couples to “divorce” and the wives to marry him while the husbands stayed in the compound but in a adult male only building and this piece of shit had married all the wives and then said he was told by God to marry all the daughters as well, his own daughter and his wives daughters all the way down to 6 years old and they would have sex with them but no one fled all those years they were so brainwashed until finally a 12 year old girl ran away in the middle of the night after he told her they’d be married the next day and would have sexual relations that night. She ran 65 miles through the desert in the night clueless where she was terrified to marry this guy and was picked up when she his the feeeway by a trucker who took her to the sheriff and a raid was organized. Warren Jeff’s is serving life in prison without the possibility of parole for all of the sexual offenses against minors he committed . Ari ended by saying these horrific stories and accounts go on today and have as long as man’s been on earth but we should have progressed enough as a species to root out any practice or belief that hurts people or manipulates and see them for what they are , not buying the statement in Midsommar from the high priestess after the auteschtupa (sp?) that it’s a belief and choice and a custom of theirs which we see half the outsides accept and half see it for what it is. The pagan cults that believe in this claim it’s completely voluntary that 100% of them choose to commit suicide at the age to not burden the society but the truth is it’s not optional and they can’t leave the commune if they don’t want to die. There is no choice like there is no choice in underage girls being molested and raped by disgusting demonic human biengs that claim to do it by tradition for the good of the cult/commune which it’s jsut disgusting desires that drive it. Anyway , lot of info but thought I’d mention the other half the reason he’s done these films to get it out there as he hoped. 🙂

It’s sad to not see them again becasue you notice SO much more second round. I watched both a 3rd time after watching a bunch of deep dives on both these movies, Easter eggs, links between the 2 , Ari Asters thoughts and even some interesting videos by current Pagans and religious historians that give insight to both movies. When i saw hereditary the first time I had no idea that the demon King Paimon , 8th king of hell was an actual pagan / satanic belief, the text in the movie she reads is real text from the pagan faith, there are actual pagan cults today that worship Paimon thst believe in performing sacrifices to get the demon to reward them with wealth and knowledge etc. i was shocked at how much of that is based on actual beliefs today, that these cults can and have done and do some disturbing things. The necklace the grandma and daughter wear and the symbol all they the movie is actually Paimons “symbol” and like that text in the movie shows they do believe Paimon Carry’s 3 female heads of bodies and souls sacrificed to it and Carrie’s them by their hair for eternity. They believe in possession and assisting in providing vessels for possession by breaking people down in every way possible. Once I watched all those videos and listened to a few podcasts about it all I had to watch then again. One of my favorites tho is a video about hereditary that breaks down ALL the hidden stuff and Easter eggs. Tells you have many scenes have naked people, ghosts or demons in the dark backgrounds and I was WAY off that number. Points out to look at the Forrest in every outdoor shot of the home and you’ll see naked cult members around the outside of the home or during the day their jsut inside the surrounding Forrest , how many scenes from inside show human breath outside the windows. Tells ya when to listen to hear several scenes where you can hear the cult members in the attic while their home. Shows ya that the entire grief group are cult members and can be seen in the naked scenes . One of the grief group is actually peters friend he smokes with that invites him to the nut party and then you see him in the last scene in the tree house praising Paimon. There are SO many detail and hidden things in both it’s honestly amazing! One of those channels said thst EVERYTHING Ari puts in a scene is there for a reason. There’s some shelves that have 6 items each on 3 shelves (666) and both movies being about 2 pagan cults that worship 2 different kings of hell of the 8 there are a ton of links between the 2 movies. Midsommar has a TON of stuff I never noticed either . Ari Aster mentioned in an interview when asked why he chose bipolar for the sister that murders her parents he revealed he left several hints that indicate the cult/commune/Pele were directly involved in the 3 deaths, that enough evidence shows it actually wasn’t the sisters doing. He said notice opening scenes as the camera pans through the “sleeping” parents room there’s a Mayqueen flower crown that’s fresh on the mothers nightstand. , flower crowns are made fresh and don’t live longn at all but the one on the nightstand is very very fresh. Dani knows nothing of the cult or their beliefs which implies the parents didn’t either so why would a fresh mayqueeen flower crown have been made by the mother that day, there’s no reason for it to logically be there except the direct link to the cult. The 2 parents and sister (3) were sacrificed to get Dani to come and to take away any reason to come back, she had no family left and her friends were all dead so Peles manipulation telling her his family also died in a fire but he found a family there knowing she freshly lost hers and was feeling completely alone with her BF getting more distant. He said he specifically had Pele mention his family all died in a fire (3 tot’s as well) (pagans as satanic groups do alot in 3’s and 6’s ) so he implies when Pele was younger he and his red headed sister were taken in by the commune when their family died , seems a bit random a commune reached out and adopted these orphans in thst experienced this horrific devastating tragedy thst took their entire Famileis from them and makes them completely vulnerable, sad, aching, hurting, craving family and community. He mentions that if you look at the way he had the hose connected to the sisters head it’s very precisely attached to her head as if someone else did it and he left 2 other hints stating the car would have to be running she’d of had to run to her room sit down and then put the hose in her mouth and begin the taping and attaching but said if you’ve ever noticed a cars exhaust ona cold morning, the large amount of fumes pumped out at a high rate would be impossible put a hose in your mouth that would already be pumping fumes out , a LOT of fumes and comming out pretty fast, you’d cough the second you opened your mouth to the fumes and would be coughing and commuting before you even begin the elaborate tape job. He also stated auto fumes are strong and while some gases can be undetectable and casue loss of life in sleep, statistics show smoke from fires and the strong fumes of an autos exhaust would almost surely wake up someone sleeping becasue it disturbs the nervous system as you inhale the carbon dioxide /burnt fuel chemicals , one of the 2 parents would have very surely woke up. He then mentioned he chose bipolar disorder becasue it’s commonly disdiagnosed and is very rarely associated to violent behavior so a 20 year old with bi polar in extremes may take their own life but murdering others, especially parents they live with thst take care of then is borderline absurd and then to write an email declaring this that also jsut happened to tie a bow around the sister doing it and confessing when all of it is much more likely to have been organized and orchestrated by the cult and Pele . He made a point to she’s the cult was expecting her and KNEW she’d stay by having the head elder shake hands with everyone but run up to Dani and hug and say only to her “welcome home” home being home, a place she won’t leave the “only” home and family she’d have left . Then all expecting shows Pele was 100% planning for her to come as we see his romanirc intrest at their college appartnent prior. How did they know she was comming and would stay? If they orchestrated the deaths of the family like Peles pin it on the “bipolar” sister with a. Suicide note from someone that Dani herself indicates her sister hd never said anything that scarry and it was different from other times indicating she was dedicatedly not violent or mentally I’ll enough to do something so extreme. He also included her passed away family in many scenes through the movie thst he said you could take this as trauma shes experincing except that only one of the scenes they are in at the commune does she actually see them (at the end) so it’s seem the storyteller is showing us they are there, not a figment of her imagination as she doesn’t notice them, that also hints again thst they were sacrificed by the cult to get Dani there. An offering to their diety to get her there and taking away her family and creating the grief. If they were sacrificed by the cult to their diety, pagan cults of old believed human sacrifice to their diety was giving the soul of that human bieng to the god they worship . If the cult did kill the parents , in thst belief system it would make sense their spirits /souls would be able to be seen during these ceremonies of their daughter. The mother is also wearing the flower crown in the commune scenes jsut like the one on her night stand. Ari at the lat minute decided to take a few scenes out that showed physical paranormal activity becasue hereditary was seen solely as a sci fo horror movie when he had messages he’d hoped it would convey and believes al of the paranormal content in it took it out of reality for viewers tho it’s based on an actual pagan cult and their beliefs so after filming and editing he went back through and pulled out EVERY scene that showed this pagan belief system was 100% real. Like in hereditary as it goes extreme at the end seeing Annie spider manning on the ceiling it told viewers in thst universe that pagan belief is real and the demon is as well which for a lot of people took it out of reality. With Midsommar he wanted to show the cult as an actual group thst practices real traditions and beliefs from pagan and satanic belief systems but showed NO proof it was real to emphasize the reality of cults and their recruitment tactics today. 2 of the scenes can be seen in the trailers for Midsommar. I’m one trailer scene it shows a ritual where a female witch begins to fly as all the females are chanting . You jsut see her feet lift off the ground but the scene was a nighttime scene where the witches (which is big in pagan belief) perform a ritual where the redhead that gets pregnant joins the coven group of witches within the cult and they chant as she lifts off the ground about 6’ in the air and the chanting wakes up dani but that’s as far as it goes. He cut out another scene where they throw a child into a pond with weights thst would either drown and it’s soul given to their god or would rise as a witch. But took it out

@@creatingyourbeautiful I agree, hereditary would be great, notice when you do it, the intentional links and Easter eggs that Ari Aster put all over Midsommer that ties it to hereditary. Both movies are about 2 different pagan cults that worship different deities but are within the same realm. Pagan cults will worship 1 or more dieties which are of thr 8 kings of hell in their beliefs . The cult in Midsommar clearly doesn’t worship the same demon king Paemon that’s worshiped in Hereditary as Paemon they believe rewards their sacrifices with wealth and knowledge and bending others wills to theirs, where the Midsommar cult demonstrate they could care less about wealth but perform rituals to be rewarded with prosperous crops and animal hunts which is a different king of hell. All pagan cults are part of a “family” of sorts even if worshipping other demon kings they alls till worship one of more of the same 8. Their beliefs and practices as shown between hereditary and Midsommar are very different but both use manipulation and narcisitic tactics to recruit praying on the lonely, weak, vulnerable to join. When you watch hereditary , watch for the links and you’ll catch some Easter eggs from Midsommar and refrences that link the 2 directly. Also I recommend viewing AFTER , the top viewed explanations /Easter eggs explained of these films. There’s some great videos from actual pagans on here that bring some clarity or jsut the ones that deep dive into all the hidden stuff. When you watch them you’ll want to rewatch both, trust me, you’ll be shocked in both movies how much you missed , moreso in hereditary . There’s a video that breaks down all stuff like how many scenes had either cult member , possessed people or ghosts in the dark backgrounds in hereditary. I thought I caught them all but there’s a LOT more. A tip to anytime it shows outside the home whether you see out windows from inside or the outside shots of the house look very closely and you’ll see either naked people standing in the surround Forrest , or breath outside the windows , candle light in Charlie’s treehouse instead of the red heat lamp which I totally missed. They also explain clearly the whole Charlie thing, the clicking is a sound made by Paemon which means he was possessing Charlie from birth when the grandmother took her over essentially. Charlie was in there still but the demon as well is why she is completely socially wierd, we also see in the book Paemon collects heads and makes stick figure like “crafts” and we see Charlie cutting heads off animals and sticking them on the stick figures. Notice also she doesn’t budge or look at the pigeon thst hits the window but knew it was dead grabbing scissors to go take the head, using his power to kill animals it wants for its figurines. Note ravens in every horror movie that are drawn to demons or places possessed. Also note the naked cult members faces and hair , you’ll notice the “grief group” is entirely cult members you’ll see in the naked scenes , peters friend with the man bun pony tail that he smokes with at school and invites him to the party where Charlie eats the nuts is in the grief group and also in the tree house in the last scene. Also, she sleeps out in the freezing cold without a coat shoes or socks and walks in the freezing cold with no shoes or socks , when’s. Demon is around most faiths believe a room will chill. A big one is her face. Note it looks lopsided and when Peter gets possessed at school his face goes lopsided for those few seconds. Demons aren’t familiar with having a body so bodily function facial expression is all off. Paemon was possessing Charlie all her life so Joan at the end refrences Peter as Charlie and Paemon as she’s trying to bring it into the reality it’s in now. Charlie, Annie and grandma all had their heads removed becasue that’s how the demon leaves the possed body and Paemon specifically Carrie’s the 3 female sacrificed heads of the souls around with it in hell tying their hair to its side. Not sure why the grandma wants to be a head carried around by the demon but sucks for Annie and Charlie. All in all. Innocent Peter is now the literal antichrist essentially , a demon in a male body, hopefully the shadow we see leave peters body after the jump out the window was his soooo leaving otherwise he’s stuck in there with thst demon like poor Charlie was. Charlie and Annie were promised and Sacrificed by the grandmother to the demon so they’re in hell according to the beliefs and the dad was burned alive by Paemon to break the last straw of Annie’s will. Those pages Annie looks at stats Paemons a jealous demon and kills the male partners of its 3 female sacrifices which is interesting becasue grandmas husband “mysteriously starved himself to death” Annie’s husband was set on fire and her brother killed himself before the grandmother could put Paemon in him. So many interesting facts and Easter eggs in hereditary.

Thanks for the clarity, I guess obviously it doesn’t show any funeral stuff, any of that either so there’s not a great indication of time frame. Where does it say or imply 6 months passed? I missed it apparently. Christian was a bit of dick and a not great partner in a Relationship but did seem a bit extreme to go to a party the day or so after the deaths although we see he was lying to her about going to Sweden so who knows. 6 months makes more sense tho so thanks.

@@MZ-bl6wg The implication is actually super obvious once you think about it, I get how it goes over people's heads :) The movie starts in winter. Then jumps to summer. Boom, clarity given :) That's also explained by the opening card for the movie, the portrait showing the progression of the characters' journey starting in winter and ending in summer I hope that helps!

At 3:48 ... The last time we saw them, it was snowing in winter. At this point, several months have gone by. While Dani is not doing well in her mourning, it is not obscene that Christian wants to go to a party.

In the pagan faith, the Mayqueen ends up after this life belonging to which ever King of Hell this Pagan cult worships,,..sooo to them I guess it’s something they desire buuuut if you’re a outsider like Dani, she’s jsut become a plaything for a demon after this life so it’s really sad for her. Think the “Hereditary,” movie, the grandmothers Pagan cult worshiped the 8th king of hell Paemon. I don’t understand it as demons bring misery every souls they can but maybe they believe they’ll have riches in hell? But in hereditary Annie, Charlie and the grandmother literally will have their heads carried by the demon Paemon . Or so they believe . To each his own, but if history even modern day has shown us anything, murderes that believe a demon promised them riches if they kill, always end up in prison and then hell for murder. (If your religious ) Paemon is a Trixter “God” (demon) it lies about everything to reach its goals and hurt people, example shown when Annie throws the book in the fire and the demon catcher her sleeve on fire making her think she’s connected to it , so at the end she tried to kill herself by throwing it in and the demon burns her husband to bring her total misery and devastation so it can possess her body. Ancient Cults and current modern cults tht are growing around the world pray on the vulnerable, the lonely and hurt , show them community and then mind eff them. Ari Aster who did both these movies said half his reason for focusing on these pagan cults is to bring awareness to how they recruit . Californias pagan and satanic cults /satanic faith is growing rapidly and it destroys families and individuals lives so he’s tries to show a secretive dark cult in hereditary and a open “bright” seemingly positive cult in Midsommar but whether satanic or pagan there’s always much much more you’re getting into that you’ll find out later. Jsut steer clear of these groups.

Wait where does it clarify that? I’m wondering becasue a few comments up someone says that it’s 6 months after their deaths. I asked him too where he gets that indication. I’ve seen this a few times and haven’t noticed any clarification but maybe I’m missing it? The movie seems to play out like it’s immidately like you say , I don’t see any indication 6 months passed between that and that would also suport that her BF is a total selfish dick which it wants us to feel so we just empathize with Dani as he continues to pull insensitive bullshit! 🙂

Pubes in your teeth and ingesting period blood is not that bad, but it is probably better when you know it's going to happen because of a certain act you are engaging in. I could think of a lot worse biological substances to unknowingly be consuming 💩

I watch a youtuber from Louisiana that said there is a specify group of African Americans (he came from thsi group) in Louisiana thst carry some tribal beliefs still and one of those he said is the women will actually put period blood in the different red sauces of creole type foods of someone their interested in believing the same thing thst it makes them fal in love with her , so that is actually factual and disgusting . Lol
