This warms my heart to see new generations of young women reacting to Elvis the same way we did back in the day. I was a baby when Elvis first came onto the rock and roll scene but got to enjoy his music of the 60's and 70's in their present time. 70's being my favorite. Enjoy the ride he was an amazing entertainer and human being ❤

I truly believe that Elvis was a natural mover and shaker like he claimed in the beginning, "I just can't help but move to the music" but when he found out the audience reacted that way, he kept doing it and learning new moves to "give them a show." He loved his fans that much. I've always been a Sinatra fan too but he looks a little stiff next to Elvis here (lol). There was an effortless grace about Elvis and it amazes me every time. His appeal is not purely superficial...

I'm more of a Sinatra fan than an Elvis fan but I especially enjoy early Sinatra's voice, from the early to mid 1940s when he was young and yes the girls were going crazy for him at the time and it caused riots lol

Mary, you seem like a kindred spirit. I'm a 23 year old male who has been a DIE HARD Elvis fan since I was 10 years old. I've combed my hair like him since I was in the 6th grade. Elvis is everywhere in my life from my truck seat covers to my phone ringtone. My room is like an Elvis museum too. Haha. So cool to see a young girl like you into the King. A very pretty girl if you don't mind my saying so.

Frank was on record as not being a fan of rock n roll or being impressed by Elvis when he came out in '54. He kind of reluctantly did this duet. Frank was also a hearthrob for girls about 10 years before Elvis hit the big time so he didn't really think all that much of him. They were two different eras and genres of music, but still very big stars of course in their own rights. So for this even to take place was very big when it happened. Around 1965 there were attempts to get the Beatles and Elvis to work together or do a TV spot but it could never happen. So for Elvis and Frank to be together on the same stage at the same time is quite historical.

Frank's popularity was in decline around the time of this special and he probably thought it was a good move. Sinatra's peak in popularity occurred between 1943-1947 and the there was a decline until 1952 and then a major comeback in 1953-1958 and then another comeback in the mid 1960s as well with Strangers in the night which went #1

This was one of several tv specials that Sinatra made at around this time...they all bombed in the ratings, except for this one??? This one the Colonel got right extracting an unprecedented $125,000 for just 7 minutes of work!! Bet that made Sinatra squirm after his derogatory comments on Elvis and rock ‘n’ roll in the 50s!!!

  • @lrn_news9171

Girls did scream like this at Sinatra at the height of his popularity between 1942-1947. In fact, at the time it was something quite new, people hadn't seen that before. He was a super skinny guy not even that good looking (some people think he was) but he had a phenomenal voice and was charming, and yes I mean early Frank, he had such a phenomenal voice, he almost sounded like a different singer, his voice was silky smooth and flawless. Check out the V discs recordings he did for the armed forces "And then you kissed me".

Back in the early 1940s, Frank Sinatra was the teen idol of that era and women would swoon and scream when he sang and performed, that's what Joey Bishop was referring to in the clip that he never heard women scream at a male singer before, a funny dig at Frank Sinatra! I saw this on TV back when it was broadcast live, I was about ten years old.

Crazy thing about this is that Elvis was only 25 and Frank was already 45. But Elvis was arguably bigger than Frank at the time even though Frank had made more movies and many more albums than Elvis by then. I'm 43, when I was 25 I wasn't doing jack squat but working right out of college. Here Elvis was the biggest star in the world hobnobbing with someone who'd already been the biggest star in the world. I chose the wrong line of work!

There were 2 peaks in a way for Elvis I think, as far as his voice, and 1960-1961 is one no one talks about enough, it's always 68-70.I love 68-70 but there is something about the 60-61 Elvis voice that's special and I think what it was is that it was the best and the last of the "young Elvis." After 1961 his voice is starting on its away to his mature man voice of 1968-70. I think it's funny how Elvis gets tickled when the girls get crazy screaming (Frank gets tickled too in Love me tender.) This is an historic piece of American culture and passing of the torch from Frank to Elvis.

I actually prefer Sinatra’s Love Me Tender version. I found the beginning of this show, where they were calling him Mr. Presley, strange. Supposedly, Sullivan offered the entire hour, which would have been great. But there’s no way Elvis was ever going to do that show again.

EPgoldenage his version is very pretty actually. And that’s interesting! I know their relationship wasn’t all sunshine and roses... lol. Think you for sharing!

John Santili I like the uptempo more. And he did it uptempo live, but still not as much as Sinatra. And to be honest, I don’t really like the song all that much compared to other Elvis ballads. I actually think Loving You is far better. Same with Young and Beautiful and As Long As I Have You. They all have a little more rhythm and are a little bluesy.

great performance, the cool thing was you had Frank (the old heart throb) and Elvis (the current heart throb). Although I prefer Dean Martin, very cool.

You were born too late, my friend. But glad youre an Elvis fan despite your young age. I wonder who influenced you to Elvis’ music. I was born too late, too.

Fun clips, but Elvis hated singing each others music, and he hated the Army.
