if you liked the staggered ripple thing when he's stage right you should watch sherlock by shinee (which is taemin's group) because that's like the entire concept of that choreo (and also you could get to see how far taemin has come, because he was soooo young in that one)

If you react to it, for the performance video I'd recommend their smtown 2017 stage (literally just search it like "shinee sherlock smtown 2017" and you'll find it) because they go hard af and also some of the fancams are from a slight birds view so you get to see every single movement

A fun fact about this Taemin era is that although kpop acts usually work with a specific dance crew for a certain performance there was no one dance crew good enough for Criminal or Idea. The dancers Taemin has here are all famous choreographers and dancers that were brought together for Taemin alone which I think is insane

Believe it or not, he goes even harder in live performances, especially end of the year special award performances like MAMA or KBS song festival. Recommend you check them out in your own time. That body roll up is FANTASTIC in the MV. Best camera work imo compared to the dance practice/live performances. Also, not sure if you noticed, but the ending Criminal pose of the dancers/Taemin was the same as the begining IDEA pose. Both are heavily connected in terms of concept & storyline. Criminal is based on stockholm syndrome & IDEA is based on Plato's Theory of Forms. So Taemin has 2 different personas. One of them gets overpowered by the other in Criminal. The "victim" persona from Criminal breaks free in IDEA with the help of his IDEA & escapes the control of the "criminal" persona.

I wish you watched a stage where he actually sings live because that is what is so impressive about this choreo in my opinion. Just dancing is hard enough but when you see him singing live (even if he does use MR in some parts) and doing this choreo that's just crazy. It's what we expect from him but always amazing to watch. Please react to Goodbye/Sayonara Hitori. It's choreographed by Koharu Sugawara and it's just great. She also choreographed his song Move probably Taemin's most well known song.

Taemin is just one of those performers that leaves you speechless every time he steps on stage. He was born to be a performer and that is one of the reasons why he has become known as the Korean Michael Jackson. That is also why, as one of the top two dancers in the industry, he was made a member of SuperM. (Kai from EXO -- Taemin's best friend since they were trainees, who is also under SM Entertainment, as well as a member of SuperM -- is the other top dancer.) Taemin is an Idol of Idols and a legend of legends. And the title of the industry's BEST dancer isn't just a fan's opinion but it's a widely agreed upon title bestowed on both Taemin and Kai by their peers and the industry as a whole. There is literally no one considered better than them. As I think you know, Taemin is one of the most popular solo artists, as well as the youngest member of the legendary Kpop group SHINee. He debuted as a solo artist in 2014 and "Idea" is part of his 3rd Korean solo album called Never Gonna Dance Again. It is part of a trilogy which started with his prologue "2 Kids," and continued with "Criminal" which is part of Act 1 of the album. "Idea" is part of Act 2 of the album and it brings the whole concept full circle. As Taemin said in an interview: "The two acts put together tell a story. '2 Kids’ is about growing pains and depicts the story prior to the story in the album. You can think of '2 Kids' as a teaser before the movie called 'Never Gonna Dance Again.' Act 1 shows a new side of me. I think it’ll be something you’ve never seen in K-pop before. And Act 2 is the end-all-be-all. It’s the ultimate level of intensity. Never Gonna Dance Again’ was originally the name of the concept. Because it doesn’t make sense for me to stop dancing. But I wanted to give a sense of rebellion with the irony of the title.” Some have said, and I have to agree, that "Idea" is a metaphor for the way Taemin sees his career. He loves what he does, almost to the point of obsession -- like "my messiah" he is drawn to it and can't help worship it -- he practically needs to dance and perform to survive. But, at the same time, it pretty much controls his life and living as an Idol means everything he does is done in the public eye and he will never be able to live a normal life -- his "dangerous dream" that is engulfing him and "swallowing him" up. The stress and constant demand for perfection he feels may be slowly "Killing me softly," etc. I particularly like the verse in "Idea" that says, "The blue light, When you and I face each other, Stained in it, All one's feelings, It's an infinite range, In my world, Most dazzling,The absolute value of you, My my IDEA." These lines seem to be talking about Taemin's fans. SHINee's fan color is pearl aqua blue, so the blue light you see in the MV and the blue light he talks about in the lyrics of "Idea," makes me think he is referring to the impact and influence the fans have had on everything he has done in his career. And although he loves and appreciates us, it has not come without a few sacrifices and negative aspects as well. The mutual love and respect between Taemin and the fans also has added a lot of extra pressure on him because he always wants to give people his absolute best and he is constantly trying to live up to an impossible standard of self-imposed flawlessness. So with every release from this album, the concept was designed to be darker than the last. In "2 Kids" he was emotionally and physically beating himself up with regrets and in "Criminal" he was living in a toxic relationship and being brainwashed to the point he was suffering from stockholm syndrome; he fell in love with the person/criminal (or thing -- i.e. his career) who is essentially inflicting all the pain and suffering on him. So, in other words, even though you are being abused by that person (possibly a metaphor for the pressure he is creating for himself as he pushes himself in his pursuit of perfection) he still can't help but love the criminal (i.e. his career) and allow them/it to continue to cause him to suffer, etc. :D "Idea" takes the theme one step further, and says that even though it was my idea and my plan to live this life, nothing comes without a price, and because of that self-inflicted need to be flawless, any chance of being average or living a regular life is pretty much dead. Taemin has sacrificed everything to become the magnificent and unique performer and person that we know him as today. But there really is no one that pushes him or holds him to a higher standard then himself. Taemin has said that he really has never taken a true vacation since he was a trainee -- he started with SM Entertainment when he was around 11 years old -- and he doesn't know what to do if he isn't constantly working and training. The thing that he hates the most is when people assume he has had it easy because he is part of a big and powerful company and he is so naturally talented. As he has said, there has never been anything that has come easy to him and he has only gotten to where he is today because he has worked hard to accomplish everything. He is constantly pushing himself to become the best of the best in everything he does. Fun fact: The female voice you hear in "Idea " is BoA. She is a solo artist also under SM Entertainment, and she is Taemin's highly respected senior who debuted with SM in 2000 at the age of 13 and, now after 20 years, she is known as one of the senior-most members of the industry. BoA is legend. To see what kind of influence BoA has had on the industry and why it is so fitting that she was included on this song, check out her recent "202020" documentary. Taemin's choreography is very much influenced by him. Although he has input in almost everything he does, he has choreographers that come up with the choreography for most of his dances and he then infuses it with his own ideas and style and makes it uniquely his. The way Taemin dances is just the way he moves. His movements are effortless. If you watch Taemin dance more, you will see that no matter who choreographs the dance, it will always be very Taemin-like. Many choreographers who have worked with him over the years have said that, with Taemin you can't help but allow him to move in whatever way his body takes him. Taemin is art in every sense of the word. :D Taemin's style of dance can't be defined. As he has said, he has worked his entire career to create a style of dance that is unlike anything in the Kpop industry. And I would argue that that now extends to the entire industry of dance. Taemin started out as a self-taught popper and locker without any dance training, and, even then, as a trainee it was clear his skills as a dancer went far beyond the average dancer. Over the years, as you see with "Idea," he has infused those popping and locking skills into his now more contemporary style of dance. But, when it comes to dancing, he can do it all and there is no one better at it than him. Taemin's talents are one reason why SHINee are one of the top groups in the industry and why they have such legendary status. SHINee is made up of some of the absolute best singers, dancers and performers in the entire industry. With more than 12 years since their debut, they still command one of the top spots. When Taemin debuted in 2008 as part of SHINee he was only 14 years old and, yet, he was already known as one of the best dancers in the industry, and he has only gotten more magnificent over the years. Now after 12 years Taemin is still one of the youngest in many Kpop circles (he is only 27) and, yet, he often has the most seniority and experience. He is so well respected that everyone looks up to him. The funny thing is, although Taemin is ultra confident when on stage, when not performing his personality is the complete opposite. That's what makes him even more lovable and why he is so popular. When on stage, Taemin can turn his sexy, sensual side up to 3,000 and he become the most powerful and magnificent performer that command the stage. But the minute he step off the stage he becomes quiet and shy and he blushes when people compliment him for his looks or performance. When not on stage, Taemin is known for being sort of innocent and kind of naive and a little ditsy, as only the maknae (youngest member) of a group can get away with -- he is 2 to 4 years younger than the rest of the SHINee members and he plays up being the baby when he is around them, and they pretty much will do anything he asks. He knows how to be cute when he wants something, but he hates it when someone asks him to be cute. LOL. SHINee are a 5 member group that is known for their live vocals and amazing dancing. They are known as CD-quality singers because they sound just as good live, if not better, than they do recorded. SHINee always sings live. The ONLY thing they are not good at is lip syncing so they avoid it at all costs, so when you hear SHINee singing 95% of the time it will be live. They have trained their entire career to be able to sing live for 3+ hours straight and always sound flawless while performing extremely complex choreography the whole time. SHINee is the group that really set the standard when it comes to live performances. It's literally known as the SHINee standard and it's what all other groups work to reach.

@@caroleng1190 Although it is sort of frowned upon by a lot of Kpop fans for Idols to date, they still manage to have relationships, they just keep them secret and most don't talk about them in public and they try not to be seen together dating. There are a few high profile couples in the Kpop industry that have managed to have relationships without a whole lot of backlash, but it is rare and doesn't happen very often. For instance Heechul from Super Junior is currently dating Momo from Twice and they announced their relationship to the public, so everyone knows about it, however Heechul and Momo are not seen together very often and they don't really talk about each other or their relationship in public. Most Kpop relationships are kept very private. And Kai from EXO has dated Krystal from F(x) for a while and he also dated Jennie from BlackPink. These relationships were made public by poperotsy, even though they tried to keep a low profile. But neither relationship lasted very long, in part due to pressure from fans. We all know that our favorite Idols date, but it is all kept secret. There are even special locations and places Idols know about where they can have car dates and private meetings with their significant other without being seen by the poperotsy and fans. Taemin has never alluded to the fact that he has ever seriously dated anyone before, so as far as we know he has not dated anyone, but i am sure he has had relationships before he has just kept it super quiet.

The only thing I can think they have any intimacy with someone they care about they would have to be gay and act like they are besties.Like here in the states celebrities date whoever, whenever and who cares. It’s their life. This is just one reason I don’t listen to Kpop. That culture is sick. Shinee has kidnapped my soul. Plus when I can watch the best, Shinee other groups are boring to me. Yes, Taemin always tries to incorporate the sign of the Cross in his choreos whenever he can. In his performance of "Heaven", I think he does it 3 times. Taemin also goes much harder during performances and MVs than you will see in a dance practice. Even before he debuted, Taemin was already an excellent self-taught dancer. You can easily pick him out of the group during his SM audition: kzread.info/dash/bejne/m6qsu9Jtnr2Zkbw.html It's also well known that 2nd gen Kpop artists concentrated more on footwork than any generation after them, unfortunately, and this was just one of Taemin's strengths. This is a clip from "Star King" showing his mastery of the "moonwalk" and MJ footwork just less than a year after his debut. He was 16 here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/eqV31aetgrq2c9o.html So you know he could do this before he debuted. On the show "Huiyeoul's Sketchbook", Taemin talks about how he used to practice his "crazy legs" everywhere - walking to the subway, on sidewalks, etc: kzread.info/dash/bejne/e4dtl8GIcbWXaKw.html He is also a master a popping and locking as you can see here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/g6Nlmq5sj67JYLw.html Lastly, as you can see in "IDEA", his transitions are extremely fast and his fluidity is off the charts. It's a shame I missed your reaction to "Famous". I had be eagerly awaiting it, but it got blocked on YT. I hope you liked it and appreciated the complex transitions and quicksilver transitions. Thanks so much for reacting to this and Taemin in general.

There were parts where I felt it had an Ian Eastwood feel and I was surprised he is part of the choreographers here omg. You should check out Danger by Taemin and View by SHINee too!

i also prefer criminal but idea's choreography is dynamic and awesome too. the sign of the cross comment is hilarious because he makes catholic allusions in some of his concepts/songs. i always look at him anyway so i didn't notice that he was going harder than his dancers in the performance, as you noted.

“It’s almost like he’s doing the sign of the cross” Iirc Taemin actually does that in a stage performance for his song Heaven (he’s a devout Catholic but that song is Not pure lol) 😂
